Hi,

  Thanks Miguel Angel for your first valuable input. We appreciate the efforts that Futura Networks are making to understand what FI-WARE is about (certainly difficult in such a short time :-) and therefore what could be the more appealing contents we may deliver to the Campus Party event as to make the whole thing a success.

  My comments between lines of yours ...

Hello everyone

Thanks Juanjo for your nice introduction.

We are also in touch with our contents colleagues based in London in order to get their feedback.

Here are our suggestions for the 3 Fi-ware workshops to be held on Campus Party Europe -2-7 September.

1. Workshop about how to create an app in Fi-Ware. We think is basic to demo about Fi-ware and its potential to create apps using Generic Enablers- Ges. It would be very useful to show some experiences, for instances Internet of things or mashups developments . We know Santander sensors project (Spain). Do you have another cases in Europe? UK?

  Well, here we can rely on a Live Demo Application we have developed which actually gathers data from sensors linked to lamp posts deployed in the Santander City. Giving it a though, I believe it could be a great idea because may allow us to tackle a rich range of FI-WARE GEs (WireCloud, the CEP, ContextBroker and the IoT Backend and Gateway GEs ...)

  We may then launch challenges targeted to enhance the existing application (whose code is open source). Developing new widgets ... maybe adding some connection to other sensors in Santander (that would be a matter to be further explored by Carlos Ralli, please take it as an AP on you :-)

  We may also launch challenges targeted to develop similar applications but relying on other sensor networks. I understand it could be quite challenging, but I would like to ask the IoT chapter team (Thierry and Carlos) to explore to what extend we could develop something based on sensors we may deploy at the Campus Party using Raspberry Pi boxes ... That would be quite interesting !! (BTW, Miguel, could you investigate whether there will be any kind of sensors deployed in the Campus Party arena and also cameras ?)

  Bottom line, you have my +1 here.

  I guess we have to find titles for workshops, so here you are my two cents: "Building your first app in FI-WARE"

2. Cloud Computing - We know that Fi-ware teams are working with OpenStack. This could be an excellent opportunity to show developers how to create virtual machines, e.g. OpenStack topic could offer a way to make the difference with other contents related to Cloud in Campus Party Europe and we think OpenStack will be an attractive content for developers.

  I tend to agree here. I believe we can gain a lot of awareness if we deliver messages like "we have build the OpsWorks for OpenStack". I rather believe that anyone who hears that message and knows and interested in OpenStack will think "I have to see what's this stuff").

  Therefore, another +1 here.

  My only addition is that I would try to cover a primer on the FI-WARE OIL portal here. How to create user accounts and the like.

  We may also try to introduce one of the other services that we intend to expose in the FI-WARE OIL Portal, which is the one that has to do with the Store. That way explaing how, once you have develop and deployed an application in our Cloud, you could offer it through the Store. My only concern is that we shouldn't work with "real money" here because FI-WARE OIL is not intended to support commercial services ... but maybe we could implement some sort of "virtual money" that only works at the Campus Party, so that people is given a certain "money", which will be assigned when they create their accounts and would only exist as long as the Campus Party lasts (although we may consider extending the lifetime afterwards). Then, campuseros could "buy" applications with that virtual money. It would even be useful as input for the prizes (consider apps who have been bought by more people). However, we have to think carefully about this because I don't know to what extend we would have everything ready for the Campus ...

  What do people think about this "mad/wild" idea about the Store with virtual money ? Again, the input from Futura Networks would be rather useful about whether something like this would help us to raise awareness or may seem too complicated.

3. Augmented Reality or 3D with Fi-ware. This a trend and a really good topic for "campuseros". Any ideas about how we can approach it?

  FI-WARE GEis supporting augmented reality and 3D web will be incorporated in FI-WARE Release 3. Indeed, I have been participating in the kick-off of the chapter/wp that will deal with this GEs for Release 3 and have waited to respond your message until I could get the input from the new partners about the viability of a workshop.

  They have told me that indeed something would be feasible (they come with rather strong baseline assets in the field) and were rather interested to participate and attend the Campus Party. Given the fact that this are the kind of things that are rather visible, I would go for such a workshop. I have assigned them an action point to come soon (early next week) with a proposal about challenges they may design.

  I would even go further and not include only 3D and Augmented Reality but also Multimedia stream processing GEs which would allow to launch challenges like processing some video and adding objects, etc ... how do you see this ?

In summary: I'm particularly happy if we go for a selection of workshops like the three ones you suggested (further exploring the viability of some of the ideas that I have put on the table). Good start !

The workshops should be a dynamical activity looking for the engagement of participants. It should be a technical activity focused on the target we are searching for. For that reason, the speaker's profile should be someone with good Technical knowledge and familiarised with Fi-ware ecosystem. Communication skills are a must to connect with audience.

  Yes. Indeed we have to try covering both aspects.

  Best regards,

This profile is also applied to developers stage speakers.

Best regards

Dear colleagues,

  As you know (see mail message below, recently distributed on the matter), we will have to organize three 2-hour workshops during the Campus Party event.

  This mail is intended to start a thread of discussion on contents of those workshops. Any ideas would be welcome. Of course, we trust on the experience of the people from Futura Networks organizing the Campus Party event so they are the first one that are welcome to bring their ideas on the matter. They have been briefed about the target goals, mission and contents of the different chapters and several activities within FI-WARE, so I guess they may have some ideas already which they could share with the rest of us.

  Best regards,

-- Juanjo

Dear partners,

  As you already know, FI-WARE will have a prominent presence in the large Campus Party event programmed in London, September 3-7 in London. The FI-WARE Open Innovation Lab (OIL) will be officially launched there and a number of promotional sessions, workshops, challenges, etc will be programmed.

  Campus Party is a huge event with big visibility in media and the wide community of geeks. Several thousand "campuseros" are expected in London. Last recent news can be followed at (http://www.campus-party.eu). You can get a clue of what a Campus Party is by watching the following videos:

  *   https://www.dropbox.com/s/m1wyb7yp9emxskz/PROMO%20EUROPA%20FIWARE.mov

  *   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Nsu5OWaAAs

  The Campus Party London event will take place in the "O2 Arena". Info about the venue can be found at: http://www.campus-party.eu/2013/getting-to-the-o2.html. Campuseros go there and stay in tends during the night ... that would give you the best insights about an event like this :-) However, if you prefer to stay in a hotel, it's up to you.

  As I have said before, Campus Party is a huge event, so a lot of things happens there and we it will actually be a challenge to make FI-WARE visible and gain attraction among attendees. The good news is that we have a prominent presence there. Roughly speaking this is the agenda of FI-WARE related events that have been proposed by Futura Networks:

  * On Tuesday 3rd morning, the following agenda has been programmed:
     * 1 hour slot from 10am to 11:00am on Tuesday 3rd where the FI-PPP program will be introduced and the launch of the FI-WARE OIL will be officially anounced.
        * It's free to us how we organize this and who are going to be the speakers
        * Neelie Kroes will be on Monday 2nd but may extend her stay during morning of Tuesday 3rd so she may do the announcement (let's say it being 15' of the total of 60')
        * content-wise, we shall introduce the FI-PPP, the role and high-level vision of FI-WARE, an overview of the UC projects and the opportunities for SMEs and entrepreneurs in phase 3. However, presentations should be rather dynamic, forget about classical "business as usual" presentations like the ones in FP7 ordinary events.
        * also content-wise, we shall announce the challenges that we will launch both on-line challenges run as hackatons (prizes around 3.000 € for first, 1.000 € second) as well as the other main challenges for which a duration of several months will be given (prizes in the dozens of thousands)

  * On Tuesday 3rd afternoon, the following agenda has been programmed:
     * 1 hour slot on the developers' stage, from 15:00 to 16:00 where:
        * we shall have an invited speaker who will help us to attract audience and works as evangelist of FI-WARE
        * we shall try to provide more hints about what FI-WARE delivers, from a developers' perspective
        * we may provide some info about phase 3 and UC projects Open Calls and point audience to the booth/exhibilition area that FI-WARE will have
        * we shall provide more details about FI-WARE OIL: how to get there, create an account, quick tour about major services available through the site portal, etc
        * we shall give more details about the challenges (small on-site and large beyond the CP)
        * we should end pushing audience to go to the 1st workshop right after
        * Again, presentations should be rather dynamic, forget about classical "business as usual" presentations like the ones in FP7 ordinary events.
     *   A first 2-hour workshop from 16:00 to 18:00

  * On Wednesday 4th morning, we will run another 2-hour workshop from 10:00am to 12:00pm

  * On Wednesday 4th afternoon, we would run an agenda similar to the one on Tuesday afternoon:
     * 1 hour slot on the developers' stage, from 15:00 to 16:00
     *   A first 2-hour workshop from 16:00 to 18:00

  * On Friday afternoon/evening, prizes will be given to winners of the challenges/hackatons run on-site during the week

  Besides all this, we will have a booth/exhibition area where we may provide further info about FI-WARE, UC projects, UC expansion during phase 3 of the program, etc.

  We will create a task force (with a dedicated mailing list) where we will work the details about contents of the different sessions, etc. Please let me know who wish to be member of that list (those who will join be sure there may be homework you may get assigned, be aware of that :-) We will periodically report on progress.

  I will run a thread of discussion within this dedicated mailing list, involving the fiware-wpl and fiware-wpa about what workshops to organize. However, we have to trust here in Futura Networks (Campus Party organizers) who should advise us on what workshops may gain more traction.

  We will most probably have also a private room for 10 seats with projector and white board that we can use during the week to run some meetings. It's up to the different chapter teams to decide whether they will organize some sort of f2f meeting of the chapter. I believe this would be a great idea and would give people the chance to attend the event. Please let me know when you would like to book the meeting room for that purpose.

  Tickets have to be purchased to attend the Campus but we are negotiating a number of free tickets.

  Campus Party is our first big external event and we have to make the most to be rather visible. Therefore, we would love that most of you attend the party ! I would rather encourage that actual developers of the different FI-WARE GEis attend the event.

  We need to know who will go because we would like to order a number of polos that we will ask you to wear during the event. It will also allow us to determine how many free-tickets we may ask for. In order to gather this info, please add a row with your info in the following spreadsheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AqGGeaQGro3fdDdhaC1hOTZHYWpXT0tGMDlLOHpwRnc#gid=0

  Don't hesitate to ask any question or doubt you may have.

  Best regards,

-- Juanjo
