Hi Juanjo, all, A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by FI-LINKS to share the possibility of going together to the IST Africa Conference. Unfortunately there was no time to discuss about it in the Coimbra meeting and this was postponed. I need to provide an urgent answer because if we decide to be present there we would need to submit a paper by the 12th December, i.e. next Friday. We can reuse something but I need to know if: · Africa could be of interest to FIWARE as part of the FIWARE MUNDUS strategy (see some details below) · In case of positive answer to the previous point we would need to have a quick discussion or exchange of mails to decide on which topics should be included and draft a paper that we can submit on Friday. Thanks in advance for your reaction ASAP so that I can provide a clear answer to the FI-LINK guys. Let me make some quick questions to make sure that I understand the purpose and what is needed: · Goal: promoting FIWARE in Africa. It sounds good, but maybe Jacques has more info than me about the priorities of the EC outside Europe. You know that as part of the FIWARE branding there is now something called FIWARE Mundus, with priorities in Latin America (due to the ongoing activities with Brazil, Mexico and Chile). Did you ever discussed about Africa? Of course it sound interesting FI-LINKS is working at trying to expand FIWARE at European (regions) and international level. We have been progressing in Latin America, mostly with TID, and Africa is a main target for Orange. We have proposed to focus on a couple of African countries and we shall meet soon with the EC to confirm the priorities that we consider both at European and international level. So far they told us that as long as there is interest from industry we shall proceed -which is the case with Orange and Africa. This is why we are investigating this opportunity where many African representatives will be participating. o You mention an Orange platform called Emerginov. What is this? Does it refer to a technical platform or platform understood as a community? You know: we could spend a lot of time discussing about the meaning of platform, service, etc, etc…what is in here? What would be the relationship with FIWARE? Emerginov is an old SMS-oriented platform which has already been deployed by Orange. The idea is to replace this outdated platform with FIWARE whenever possible. · In case we go ahead with this: what should we do? o Can we get the example of FI-LINKS? Then, I suppose we should do something similar for FIWARE We have already submitted a proposal for a paper, in order to organize a workshop at IST-Africa. However we have been informed that we need at least 2 paper submissions to set up a session. Pierre-Yves is working on getting a possible paper from Emerginov, and we thought that it would be good also to have a paper from FIWARE. Valentine will send you the paper already submitted by FI-LINKS so that you can see how complementary your potential paper could be. Finally, what kind of audience can we expect there? I suppose there is no funding for the trips and we need to find a partner with business interests in Africa to go there…of course it sounds very exotic. As I already mentioned the industrial partner involved is Orange. Pierre-Yves will represent FI-LINKS probably if our paper/session is accepted; maybe someone else from Orange involved in FI-CORE would join -I leave this to Pierre-Yves to respond. If you could send me some quick answers it would be great. I will be travelling to Coimbra tomorrow for a communication meeting organized by the EC with Telefonica, Ogilvy, Futura and Atos and I could directly discuss this in the meeting to get an approval and go ahead or not. Is this quick enough??? Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!! Nuria Cheers, Jacques From: Valentine Bastide (InterInnov) [mailto:vbastide at interinnov.eu] Sent: Tuesday, November 25, 2014 3:15 PM To: De Lama Sanchez, Nuria Cc: DANET Pierre-Yves IMT/OLR; Jacques Magen (InterInnov) Subject: FIWARE and the IST Africa conference Dear Nuria, I contact you from Jacques Magen and regarding the project FI-LINKS. We have planned to submit a worshop proposal to the event IST Africa 2015: http://www.ist-africa.org/Conference2015/default.asp?page=submission-ws The objective of that workshop is to make known the FIWARE Platform in Africa thanks to the company Orange (which already has its own platform called "Emerginov" over there). Do you know if FIWARE would be interested to join us in this workshop and submit a FIWARE proposal? Please note that we have already prepare one paper regarding the FI-LINKS Project and the submission requires 2 proposals by December 12th.
