From jhierro at tid.es Thu Apr 10 07:36:56 2014 From: jhierro at tid.es (Juanjo Hierro) Date: Thu, 10 Apr 2014 07:36:56 +0200 Subject: [Fiware-citysdk] IMPORTANT: CitySDK and FI-WARE in Horizon 2020 In-Reply-To: <5345218F.3070400@tid.es> References: <5345218F.3070400@tid.es> Message-ID: <53462DF8.4030909@tid.es> Dear all, I'm happy to see that conversations are progressing well towards convergence of citySDK and FI-WARE. Not only looking forward a solution that may help cities supporting CitySDK APIs to join the smart cities ecosystem we are building on FI-Lab, but also looking forward a formula which may help to support a citySDK approach on top of FI-WARE as outlined in the slides shared in the following Google docs (slide 2): https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Had-si78vS5wTVkRICwj0_fGWu-1KLhhaO4FMCnZrpk/edit#slide=id.g1e01db299_00 We would love to design a project proposal that may help to fund the activities which may be needed to achieve full alignment, concretely driving the design of data (entity-attribute) models for different city services and the development of a full-operating City SDK compiler which may help to generate CitySDK APIs from data model definitions aligned with the NGSI-ContextBroker model. The whole idea is that FI-WARE + City SDK can become a Smart City platform standard. Looking into the existing calls in Horizon 2020, we see two options in the short term (unfortunately, rather in the short term :-) One would be the current call of FIRE+ (http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/portal/desktop/en/opportunities/h2020/topics/85-ict-11-2014.html) and another would be the current call on Smart Cities and Communities (http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/portal/desktop/en/opportunities/h2020/topics/2145-scc-01-2014.html). We believe that setting up a proposal leveraging on FI-WARE+CitySDK and FI-Lab pursuing the above objectives and driving experiments involving SMEs (to be selected through open calls) should not be that difficult to prepare for the FIRE+ call, despite the deadline for the call is rather close (April 23th, 17:00 :-) It would only require that 1-2 people can be devoted almost full time at writing the proposal from now until the deadline. Would you consider it feasible ? Could you involve someone from your organization ? We may take care of the sections dealing with overall goals, approach, WP descriptions and implementation but it would be nice that someone could take care of sections dealing with impact and could also contribute to the initial sections. An aswer would be needed along today, maximum tomorrow so that we can prepare development of a first draft of the WPs and organize a call begining of next week. As with regards to the call on Smart Cities and Communities, we wonder whether you are actually involved in any proposal where it might be worth incorporating this concept of FI-WARE/CitySDK convergence and usage of FI-Lab. We would be happy to contribute in proposing a platform that helps to bring together CitySDK and FI-WARE and find the resources. However, after discussing with the CitySDK partners, we think this time frame is too tight for preparing a common proposal. We have same deadline for several other proposals and this is so important step to take, that we wouldn't like to prepare a proposal in a rush. There will be fitting calls also later and then we are also much wiser to prepare excellent winning proposal after having implemented the FI-WARE - CitySDK "converters" during the spring and summer. In my understanding most of the CitySDK cities are involved in the SCC1 call and I think it is a good idea to include FI-WARE in the proposals when feasible. Maybe you may reconsider and may be willing to consider your participation. You will see a task for defining the CitySDK compiler in WP4 of the proposal. As explained in my email last week, focus will be to define a set of standard NGSI-comptabile Smart City data models. The CitySDK compiler may help to generate typed programming libraries based on their definition. Looking forward your feedback.
