Hi all, I’ve had an interesting talk with one of the winners of the FIWARE challenges a possibility for a demo in Oulu. I’ll try to describe the conclusions. 3D representations are especially useful to depict environmental issues. Particularly, air pollution plumes, waste spill plumes in the water, geological models of water flows... In the case of Oulu, and given the kind of city representation that you have, it might make sense to work on water spills. For instance, if there is a factory near the see or any of the rivers and streams depicted in the map, it would be possible to send you a 3d representation of an “legal” static spill plume and depict around several sensors with real time data from sensors in context broker. Of course we’re not deploying sensors in Oulu, we could use existing sensors in their premises, even in the expo, or even simulate the data. [cid:image003.png at 01CFF8F5.B1346270] But I have to admit that it might not be the most appealing thing to show... So, after a kind of brainstorming here we thought the higher benefit you can get from a 3D model of a city would be... to see the city (or city area) when it does not exist. So, it would be like a participatory urban planning tool: a citizen would visualize the planned/designed city area in 3D, with many points of interest (context entities) that could be streets, walls, gardens, playgrounds, equipment in the street, commerce, ornaments,... These entities would have static information (like PoIs), while additional context information could come from citizens comments: simple things like ratings, or even sentences (“we had better build a bikes line here...”). We could think a bit about how this information could be model in the context broker if it makes sense to you. In the meantime, I would suggest to play a bit with the representation of context broker information in the 3D scene. For instance, you could access existing context broker data from other cities (check [1]) and represent some basic information the city. It could be also be possible to have a citizen participation tool (open 311) in a city area, maybe taken advantage of the work done in Helsinki with citysdk participation integration in the context broker; so citizens could report issues based on a 3D representation of the city and point exactly to the affected entity, and not just by location in a 2d map. The code for the open 311 / ngsi is at https://github.com/ForumViriumHelsinki/fi-ware-open311/ and the context broker instance at http://130.206.82.148:1234/ . So far, the requests have longitude and latitude as attributes, you might want to have an attribute like object id for each object ... or event to transform the model and to define an entity per object in the 3d scene.
