Thanks for the background.
As I am not an expert on IFC, I can do an overview presentation which will hopefully help the rest of the team get an overview of what it offers and how it differs from CityGML.
I believe the integration of all levels of detail will eventually need to be seamless and therefore adopting enough standards to cover all domains would be important.
Let me know if I should prepare, I will gladly do so.

My initial investigation make me think that cityGML is more adapted to the city Level geo twin definition whereas the IFC would be too rich in such case. However, IFC would better fit the building twin level so BIM applications.
It would probably deserve some specific discussion and may raise interest as well from the robotic WG which has to deal with 3D space representation. I saw some papers where IFC definitions are used for automated in-door navigation.
Would you be able to make a presentation of IFC in one of our forthcoming call (could be Monday next week) to help us evaluating the opportunities ?

Since I have not been involved from the beginning I need to check first whether you have also considered the role of IFC (Industry Foundation Classes)?

It provides BIM detail which I believe CityGML does not provide, please correct me if I am wrong.
