Dear Saraah,

APIs are the way that applications have to talk between themselves. Our
APIs simply define the data and the messages exchanged between our
enablers and the applications people create to use our GEs.

FIWARE is providing the so called Generic Enablers . Generic means that
they can be applied to no matter what industry, they are general purpose
artefacts. For instance, a security enabler that is used to control what
users can access what resources is definitely general purpose. A Big
Data Platform can process massive amounts of data (in any sector). An
event processor can process events from devices in a power plant of from
sensors in a town.

There are many cases identified. Many of them are focused on Smart Cities.

Just to give an easy example I made up very quickly. A town council
wants to see how one of the containers to collect paper to recycle are
full up to empty them. You set up a data centre with virtual
infrastructure for this and for other services(this is our cloud
enablers). Then you create management applications that use our security
enablers to control the users who can access the system. Now you need to
put sensors in the containers and process the events (if the paper is
getting close to the top, you get a signal). The context broker
processes that and you incorporate the data to whatever system you
create for paper management.

You have used a number of enablers for this. However, there are more,
for instance we have video processing as well.   Or marketplaces. See
