* Are there plans to develop for smartphones or offer existing libs (eg. libs to handle login)

FIWARE decided to leave frameworks for development of web applications on mobile devices (smartphone, tablets, etc) deliverately out of the scope of FIWARE.

GEs in the Advanced Web-based UI chapter are targeted to a very concrete topic which is virtual and augmented reality. There is a client part in the architecture that should be capable to run on mobile device browsers but, again, is rather specific. There is work going on in Wirecloud targeted to make it available on smartphones and tablets but that means adaptation of the UI of that particular GE.

* Is it true that the Orion Context Broker can be used to process data in the cloud (for alerts based on more complex scenarios or over longer periods)

The purpose of Orion context broker is to manage flows of event. Complex events processinf require the use of Complex Event Processing GE

* Is it easy to develop locally with all components, and use them in a similar manner as for example with Google AppEngine? For setting up various components we found instructions (such as the Orion Context Broker), but what is preferred or advised way to set up components??

No local components are provided. FIWARE GEs focus on the back-end (cloud part).

* What is the FIWARE vision on hosting? Development and testing in the 'lab' environment and a different environment for production hosting? If you go to the next stage, do you get assigned environments? Every now and then there are issues with availability and setting up an environment is not as straight forward as one might expect.

FIWARE lab is to be used only for testing purpose and is not a production environment. FIWARE lab teams are currently working to clean database of users and implement a resources management targeted to better support phase 3 SMEs. The community status application form will be online by 24/02 and users will be informed at that point.
