[Fiware-ga] R: [Fiware-pcc] URGENT/IMPORTANT: Extension of the FI-WARE project

Dear Juanjo,

I support the request of providing additional information about the two points raised by Alex in his mail below, before proceeding to insert TI's vote in the doodle.  Particularly, the role of FI-WARE with respect to the other mentioned projects needs to be defined in detail, to avoid potential troubles and/or superposition.

Moreover, what should be the interpretation of the last sentence reported by Mr. Villasante (...'taking into account possible budget limitations'): does it mean that it is strongly suggested to extend the project, and at the same time the EC could apply a budget limitation (limitation to current budget? Limitation to a budget increment that would cover activities in the additional months?)?

I'd be grateful if you could elaborate on those items before the deadline set to tomorrow.

Indeed, the goals mentioned below (Startup Weekend, Brazil nodes, etc) seem very important for the success of the FI-PPP.
I have two clarification questions, that might help deciding on the voting.
1. It seems that the activities are going to (or at least might) be supported by other projects, such as XIFI or FI-Core. Can you, please, elaborate how do you see the responsibilities of each project in this respect?
2. Can you, please, elaborate on the envisioned deliverables, as well as role of the different partners in activities beyond September? This might be crucial for proper effort/budget planning (and for the assessing their feasibility).

Dear all,

 Please find attache a message from Mr. Jesús Villasante, head of the EC Unit in charge of the FI-PPP where he strongly suggests that we extend the duration of the project until end of the year.

 I have had the opportunity to chat with Mr. Villasante after receiving this message in order to better understand his position and come back to you.  As a result of this conversation, I reached the conclusion that the EC may get actually  dissapointed if we don't go for it.

 We at Telefónica I+D do not have any issue with such as an extension and we believe it actually makes sense.   Actually, it's true that there are a number of activities that may become difficult to execute/fund if we do not implement such an extension.   Certainly regarding activities of Startup Weekend or the setup of FI-Lab nodes in Brazil but I would not get suprised if some of the partners involved with projects linked to smart cities may welcome this extension.

 Nevertheless, we will carry out a doodle poll to gather the position of all partners.  The doodle poll is setup at:

It has come to our attention that the execution of some activities in the FI-WARE grant agreement needs proper attention in order to conclude these activities successfully.

For example, Startup Weekend has only recently started its activities and will not be able to reach the scale of the intended audience by the end of September 2014. Startup Weekend attracts participants that are quite valuable to the FI-WARE ecosystem and efforts must be made to address them well.

In addition, the FI-WARE project has recently started activities to engage with Brazilian organisations to set up FI-Lab nodes in Brazil. The Commission is very supportive to those activities and is keen in seeing them implemented well. The current FI-WARE grant agreement needs to be amended for this to guarantee proper implementation of the FI-Lab nodes in Brazil.

Finally, the topic of Smart Cities is gaining in importance. The work of FI-WARE's newly added partners in this topic needs to be concluded well.

All in all, I strongly suggest you to consider extending the project until (say) end of December 2014 to successfully execute the above and other activities, taking into account possible budget limitations.
