[Fiware-ge-owners] Working Group for analysis of potential issues and opportunity of harmonization regarding open source distribution and contribution license agreements linked to FIWARE components

Dear FIWARE GE owner representatives,

   During the last FIWARE Foundation BoD (Board of Directors) there was 
a request to conduct an analysis of potential issues and opportunity of 
harmonization regarding open source distribution and contribution 
license agreements linked to FIWARE components. Therefore, the FIWARE 
Foundation will create a Working Group targeted to:

  * analyze existing open source distribution licensees adopted in
    FIWARE and determine a) whether some sort of harmonization is
    feasible and b) whether there is any constraints that existing open
    source distribution licenses adopted in FIWARE may impose in
    commercialization of "Powered by FIWARE" solutions
  * analyze existing contribution license agreements to determine a)
    whether some sort of harmonization is feasible and b) whether a
    template or set of recommendations for the wording of such
    contribution license agreements can be established for components
    that will be part of FIWARE.

   We believe that it is important that representatives of organizations 
contributing FIWARE GEs join this Working Group.  On the other hand, it 
was highlighted that the group should be formed by representatives who 
have a strong expertise on open source licenses (both distribution and 
contribution agreement licenses).  Those representatives should be 
familiar with the different alternative business models that can be put 
in place linked to selection a concrete open source distribution 
license.   They should also have enough experience in open source 
communities and the mechanisms which can foster contribution by third 
parties and the growth of a strong community of contributors around a 
given open source product, including the selection of a proper 
contribution license agreement.

   Please send to me the contact information about people you want to 
get involved in this Working Group.   We plan to schedule a confcall 
last week of February and it will be important that enough number of 
representatives already join that call.  They would be incorporated as 
members of a mailing list we will create for conducting the discussions.
