ROUND A awarded projects, this is for YOU!
(sorry for the long text, but it is worth reading!)

Great opportunity for FIWARE entrepreneurs at the MWC'16, particularly those developing applications for Smart Cities and Smart Agrifood

We would like to share what we believe could be a exciting opportunity for many of the startups/SMEs involved in the FIWARE accelerator project, particularly those dealing with development of applications for the Smart Agrifood domain or for cities (or useful for citizens/business in a city)

Telefónica and KT (Korean Telecom) are leading a project within GSMA which has to do with pushing for the definition of common platform APIs and data models enabling context information management (IoT data being part of the context information that is captured through sensor networks). It is proposed that these standard APIs and data models be adopted in the platforms provided by mobile operators in order to support interoperability and portability of smart context-aware applications.

GSMA is the organization who designed the GSM standard, more info can be found at http://www.gsma.com/aboutus/history. We believe that collaboration among mobile operators towards a common standard for context information (including IoT data) management could bring a significant impact the same way the GSM network did.

We have been able to position FIWARE as basis for the standards to be adopted. Particularly FIWARE NGSI is being adopted as the basis for publishing, querying or subscribing to context information (which includes but is not limited to IoT data).

The interesting news is that several showcases are planned to be implemented in this GSMA project targeted to demonstrate the possibilities of FIWARE NGSI and these showcases will be presented at the next Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in 2016 !!. Smart Cities and Smart Agrifood have been selected as two areas for which showcases will be built. In both cases, it is intended that concrete applications are showcased and indeed the data models they require to run be standardized. This brings a great opportunity for entrepreneurs that get involved to showcase their FIWARE-based applications in an event of the magnitude of the MWC !! As you can imagine, both Telefónica and KT as well as the GSMA and other mobile operators who may join the project would also perform marketing/dissemination of the showcases which would also benefit the entrepreneurs !! I believe that it may bring opportunities for commercial collaboration.

We want to move fast and be able to select a first round of applications for these showcases before mid June. The goal would be to have a first prototype of them running around October. Of course, we would like to run these selection considering the startups/SMEs selected within the FIWARE Acceleration Programme. We will try to engage some of the cities linked to the OASC initiative for the showcase on Smart Cities. We need to find out how we can engage some farms for the Smart Agrifood showcase (suggestions here coming from the SmartAgrifood project are welcomed.

Because of the nature of showcases (exchange of context information, part of which and significantly should come from the IoT space) goal is to select applications who at least use the Context Broker GE (Orion) and the IoT Backend Device Management GE (IDAS). In other words, IoT should be relevant in the application and context-awareness behaviour as well. Usage of CKAN as portal for the publishing of NGSI query datasets is also considered.

If a SME/startup aims to submit its application for consideration, they have to produce a short document describing their application. It should contain the following info:

Info about the applicant
- Name ofthe startup/SME
- Name of the application
- Name and email of the main contact persons
- Name of FIWARE accelerator project you are working with
- Any additional info you believe it might be relevant

Brief description of the application (half a page). If there is an existing prototype provide a link to it.

Detailed description of the application. Should be structured in the following sections:
- Application functionality.
*info to be provided: What problem does the application solve? What functionality it offers to end users?
*recommended length: 0,5 to 3 pages
- IoT aspects.
*info to be provided: What kind of sensors does the application uses? What info does it get from sensors? What FIWARE IoT Generic Enablers does the application use?
*recommended length: 1-3 pages
- Context Information management
*info to be provided: Does your application exhibit a “context-aware” behaviour? How do you plan to use the FIWARE Context Broker (Orion open source reference implementation)? What type of entities and attributes, following the NGSI model, are relevant to your application?
*recommended length: 1-3 pages
- State of development
*info to be provided: Description of the state of your development. What are the next relevant milestones in your development? When do you plan to have your first working prototype if not yet available? Link to any prototype if already available.
*recommended length: 1 page
- Already engaged users.
*info to be provided: Describe who would be interested in getting involved in the showcase and you have already contacted to, e.g.:
+Name of the city and contact in the case of Smart City application
+Farms in the case of Smart Agrifood application
*recommended length: 1-2 pages

SMEs should send their application to: fiware-gsma-showcases-rfp at lists.fiware.org
Adding "Submission: " as prefix in your subject. Don't forge to subscribe to fiware-gsma-showcases-info at lists.fiware.org as described in the original message (beginning of this thread)

If they have questions, please ask them to send them also to the mailing list. Please add "Help: " as prefix in the subject of their mail. Note that answers to questions may be shared with other applicants, sending an email to fiware-gsma-showcases-info at lists.fiware.org.

Submissions should be sent no later than May 28th, 20:00 CET.
Please share with interested parties.
Thanks
