Dear Philip,

public IPs are a very scarce resource, in particular if you need two in parallel (one for the public router and one for the exposed host, as this is the case for the Berlin node).

Could you please formulate your requirements first:

- do you need acces from a VM to the public Internet
- do you need access to a VM from another host via the Internet
- how many VMs must be accessible from the Internet
- what services do the VMs run (i.e. which ports must be excluded from the infrastructure firewall - not the OpenStack
filters, these need to be opened in addition, but this can be done by yourself).
- how long do you plan to utilize allocated floating IPs

Possible solutions depend on these requirement.

I checked and found that we may be able to free up max. two IPs (1 public router, 1 VM) for your tenant. If this is sufficient, you may contact me aside the list.

BTW. The due reason for this IP scarcety is mainly that tenants allocate floating IPs and don't release them after they finished their tests. The infrastructures have very few means to identify unused tenants.
Please understand that we still have to find viable solutions for this problem.

Hi,

I need my instance to be accessible from the outside world. I am working for the EU Project FIspace, which is part of FI-PPP program.
I have no idea how to implement this NAT and Port Forwarding.

Can I get another floating IP in one of the other nodes – the Berlin one or some other?

Hi,

You can't extend the limit of Floating IPs. This must be done by administrators. However, as Public IPs are scarce and a expensive resource, we have set the limit to 1 IP in the Spanish node. --- You can access all your others VMs doing NAT and Port Forwarding.

Hi,

I just tried to access http://cloud.lab.fi-ware.org/ but I get an error message about “too many open files” or something.
The other parts (Store, Mashup, etc.) seem to be working though.

Is there some kind of maintenance going on? When do you expect http://cloud.lab.fi-ware.org to be available again?
