Thank you very much, this summary was very helpful.

In the meantime I also managed to create a recipe for 3d-ui-xml3d and 
added it to the SVN.

Regarding step 12):

You can specify which recipe should be used in the run_list by the "::" 
operator, e.g.:

file 'install.js' contains { "run_list" : "recipe[xml3d::3.3.3_install]" },
then chef-solo -j install.js will run the 3.3.3_install.rb recipe from 
the recipes - folder.
