Dear FIWARE Enthusiasts,

The ETSI Industry Specification Group on Context Information Management (ETIS ISG CIM) has agreed on the final NGSI-LD specification (v1), which will now go through the ETSI process (mainly editorial aspects) before official publication in early 2019. The agreed version has already been made available “for public review” on the open area of ETSI ISG CIM: https://docbox.etsi.org/ISG/CIM/Open/ISG_CIM_NGSI-LD_API_Draft_for_public_review.pdf

NGSI-LD is the evolution of the NGSI API as presented at the FIWARE Summit in Malaga last month:

FIWARE Foundation has started implementing NGSI-LD for the Orion Context Broker and NEC is also working on an NGSI-LD Broker implementation that can support distributed and federated scenarios.
We should start thinking about making other GEs ready for NGSI-LD!

Apart from being a standard and having a consistent and complete specification, NGSI-LD has the following advantages:
▌ NGSI-LD has an Entity Graph as its information model
· based on entities, relationships, properties, properties of properties etc.
--> graph structure provides a better way of representing the structure of the real world, e.g. in a smart city
▌ NGIS-LD supports Linked Data (LD) and is based on JSON-LD
· terms in the information representation are mapped to unique URIs
--> enables agreement on uniquely identified concepts without heavy impact on information representation
▌ NGSI-LD enables support for different architectural models (e.g. centralized, distributed, federated and hybrid)
à Enables scaling of IoT infrastructure
à Supports complex IoT scenarios with multiple players

Best regards,

Martin
