ETSI ANNOUNCES

Dear Madam,
Dear Sir,

I am very pleased to announce the establishment of the new ETSI Industry Specification Group (ISG) 'cross-cutting Context Information Management (CIM)'.

Data without context is meaningless. While the relevant context may be obvious for humans, it is not for ICT based applications, in particular for complex, cross-sector use cases like smart cities, where data may originate from many sources and may be used for diverse, even unknown future applications. A Context Information Management (CIM) system acts as a clearing-house for publishing, discovering, monitoring and maintaining data according to relevant contexts for smart applications.

ISG CIM will develop technical reports and specifications for applications to update, manage, and access context information based on domain specific information models, e.g. for smart cities, as well as publishing that information through interoperable data publication platforms. ISG CIM will provide a standardized Context Information Management solution to enable all interested stakeholders and organizations to develop interoperable software implementations, including open source implementations, fostering a plethora of smart city applications and beyond.

ISG CIM will reach out to relevant initiatives and cooperate closely to avoid any duplication of work. It will in particular coordinate its work with ETSI TC SmartM2M and the ETSI Partnership Project oneM2M.

The first meeting of the ISG CIM is planned to take place at the ETSI premises in Sophia Antipolis, France, on 9-10 February 2017. Participation of ETSI members in the ISG CIM is subject to signing the ISG CIM Member Agreement, and all members of ETSI are invited to join. Non-members of ETSI will also be able to participate, subject to signing the ISG CIM Participant Agreement and paying a per-meeting fee.

The Terms of Reference of the ISG CIM, the current list of members, the ISG CIM Member and Participant Agreements, and the draft agenda for the first meeting are available for download from the ETSI Portal at Linkkkkk

As with all ISGs, information on the work programme and future meeting dates are available to all ETSI members on the portal, and all published Group Reports and Group Specifications are available for download by the public free of charge.

The call for candidates for chairmanship and vice-chairmanship is open. Persons who wish to stand for candidates fulfilling the requirements for chairmanship as per the ETSI Directives, are kindly requested to fill in the form from the ETSI Portal Linkkkkk and submit their candidature to isgsupport at etsi.org<mailto:isgsupport at etsi.org> by the 31st of January 2017.

Should you have any questions regarding this ISG then please do not hesitate to contact isgsupport at etsi.org<mailto:isgsupport at etsi.org>. Furthermore, please consult the ETSI portal for the latest information.

ETSI CALLS FOR CANDIDATES FOR ISG CHAIR and VICECHAIR

ETSI ISG CIM (cross-cutting Context Information Management) needs to appoint its Chairman as well as Vice-Chairmen for a period of one (1) year at its first meeting at Sophia Antipolis on 9-10 February 2017.

Interested representatives of ISG CIM Members are therefore invited to submit their candidatures.
Candidates are requested to physically attend this first meeting where elections will be held. Note: ISG CIM Participants are not permitted to apply for ISG CIM leadership positions.

Please announce your candidature by email to isgsupport at etsi.org<mailto:isgsupport at etsi.org> filling in the corresponding form (see Annexes) by the 31st of January 2017 at the latest.

The election for Chairman will be held first, therefore candidates may apply for both Chairman and Vice-Chairman positions and a successful candidate for Chairman will have his/her Vice-Chairman candidature withdrawn.

Please note that candidatures will be made available to the ISG CIM Members and ISG CIM Participants and uploaded as a meeting document at the CIM#01 meeting.
