Data without context is meaningless. While the relevant context may be obvious for humans, it is not for ICT based applications, in particular for complex, cross-sector use cases like smart cities, where data may originate from many sources and may be used for diverse, even unknown future applications. A Context Information Management (CIM) system acts as a clearing-house for publishing, discovering, monitoring and maintaining data according to relevant contexts for smart applications. ISG CIM will develop technical reports and specifications for applications to update, manage, and access context information based on domain specific information models, e.g. for smart cities, as well as publishing that information through interoperable data publication platforms. ISG CIM will provide a standardized Context Information Management solution to enable all interested stakeholders and organizations to develop interoperable software implementations, including open source implementations, fostering a plethora of smart city applications and beyond. ISG CIM will reach out to relevant initiatives and cooperate closely to avoid any duplication of work. It will in particular coordinate its work with ETSI TC SmartM2M and the ETSI Partnership Project oneM2M. ISG CIM on the Portal The ISG CIM Member Agreement including the Terms of Reference and the related Instructions are available from the ETSI Portal ISG CIM area at: https://portal.etsi.org/tb.aspx?tbid=854&SubTB=854#5068-home As with all ISGs, information on the Work Programme and future meeting dates are available to all ETSI members on the ETSI Portal, and all published ISG Group Reports and ISG Group Specifications will be available for download by the public free of charge. ISG CIM Participation Participation of ETSI Full and/or Associate members and/or applicants to ETSI Full and/or Associate membership in ISG CIM is subject to signing the relevant ISG Member Agreement, and all Full and Associate members of ETSI and/or applicants to ETSI Full and/or Associate membership are invited to join. ETSI members who wish to apply for ISG CIM membership fulfilling the requirements as per the ETSI Directives, are kindly invited to download the ISG CIM Member Agreement from the dedicated area on the ETSI Portal and follow the Instructions on the cover page. ETSI Observers and non-members of ETSI will also be able to participate, subject to signing an ISG Participant Agreement and paying a per-meeting fee. ISG CIM Kick-Off meeting The first meeting of the ISG CIM is planned to take place at the ETSI premises in Sophia Antipolis, France, on 9-10 February 2017. The draft agenda<https://docbox.etsi.org/ISG/CIM/05-CONTRIBUTIONS/2017/CIM(17)001001_ISG_CIM_01_Agenda.DOCX> for the kick-off meeting is available from the ISG CIM dedicated area on the ETSI Portal.
