From nuria.delama at atosresearch.eu Fri Dec 14 10:57:56 2012 From: nuria.delama at atosresearch.eu (Nuria De-Lama Sanchez) Date: Fri, 14 Dec 2012 10:57:56 +0100 Subject: [Fiware-pcc] Letter of support for a Cloud proposal in Call10 Message-ID: <66E3B1FDDB04BE4D92DC3A2BA8D98D9A016A43AB@INTMAIL03.es.int.atosorigin.com> Hi Pepe, all, Atos is currently working on a proposal for the topic 1.2 (Call10) that fits very much with the developments of FI-WARE in the Cloud chapter. The consortium, led by IBM, would like to get a letter of support for the proposal as a mutual support to extend what FI-WARE is doing. As you know, this does not express any formal commitment, but an interest and a willingness to collaborate, which we think is an added value for both initiatives. Do not ask me why this task came to me (being IBM the coordinator -as you can see, the recipient of the letter of support is Yaron- and taking into account that IBM is the leader of the Cloud chapter in FI-WARE). In any case it is like that and I would like to know if this could be signed on behalf of our project. I attach the LoS where you can find the reasons why this interest and potential collaboration is justified as well as the abstract of the proposal (see below). Pepe, let me know if this is possible and when so that I can confirm the situation to the coordinator. Proposal abstract CloudWave will introduce a second generation cloud software stack, enabling the development and delivery of adaptive cloud-scale services which dynamically adjust to changes in their environment so as to optimize quality of service and resource utilization. In doing so, CloudWave will advance the competitiveness of the EU economy by providing a powerful foundation for creating innovative, sustainable Future Internet services, realising the full promise of cloud computing. CloudWave will deliver (1) an open architecture and reference implementation of a new cloud software stack, extending current cloud technology with capabilities for intelligent adaptation of cloud services; and (2) an agile development environment, tools and methods for development of reliable cloud-scale services, based on the new stack. Scientifically, CloudWave will advance the state-of-art along three dimensions: * Execution Analytics: A new framework where specialized algorithms dynamically analyse cloud infrastructure and application behaviour, seamlessly integrate data pertaining to physical and virtual resources and IoT elements, and provide consolidated feedback to drive service evolution and adaptation * Coordinated Adaptation: A new software technology where cloud applications and cloud infrastructure collaboratively and automatically undertake complex adaptation actions, ensuring quality of service and effective utilization of ICT resources * Feedback-Driven Development: A new agile approach for developing cloud applications, where developers exploit execution analytics to incrementally determine and evolve application features, extensions and optimizations, based on observed user needs Using three industry case studies, we will demonstrate how the CloudWave architecture, where the above innovations play a key and novel role, supports emerging Future Internet services and provides high and quantifiable improvements in service delivery quality, productivity, reliability and cost. Since, as Yaron explains, this is just a continuation and we have already shown our support, I suppose we can continue it, unless there is any objection. I leave you the week end to reflect on the issue (Note: Unfortunately, last time was not very successful, let us hope this time it is :)) BR Jose De: fiware-pcc-bounces at lists.fi-ware.eu [mailto:fiware-pcc-bounces at lists.fi-ware.eu] En nombre de Nuria De-Lama Sanchez Enviado el: viernes, 14 de diciembre de 2012 10:58 Para: fiware-pcc Asunto: [Fiware-pcc] Letter of support for a Cloud proposal in Call10 Hi Pepe, all, Atos is currently working on a proposal for the topic 1.2 (Call10) that fits very much with the developments of FI-WARE in the Cloud chapter. By the way and just to remind you but It was also reported at the last FI-WARE review, the OPTET project we submitted to FP7 Call 8 (Security objective) and for which we contacted you to get your personal support and become a member of the Advisory Board was indeed awarded. By I do hope other projects we supported went through as well so would be pleased to know those ones as well. Hearing from you. The evaluation of call 2 for phase 2 is completed and we are about to invite five use-case projects and one capacity building project for negotiations taking place in January and February 2013. Beyond one-to-one meetings which we will have with the individual consortia, we plan to have a common FI-PPP negotiation workshop on 4-5 February as previously announced already (http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/activities/foi/lead/fippp/call2/negotiationcall2_en.htm). This workshop will be the opportunity for you to discuss with the new phase 2 projects in detail and ensure that the respective work-plans (DoW) are updated accordingly, as to have a coherent package of projects moving into phase 2. To this end we will provide you with a structured agenda closer to the event, however the workshop will start Monday 4 February at 9:oo am and last until Tuesday 5 February until 17:oo. I would appreciate if you could note down the dates and ensure that up to 2 people from FI-WARE, from CONCORD and from INFINITY will participate to this workshop full-time. At least what we should prepare or be ready for is: ? The potential presentation of the overall technical ecosystem ? An overview of the collaboration mechanisms with FI-WARE? all the instruments and mechanisms in place for the purpose of FI-WARE-UC projects cooperation so that new projects get familiar with them ? The input so far provided by all the UC projects to FI-WARE and that could be considered the basis for any collaboration (ex. Requirements, mapping of their interest/requirements with FI-WARE GE, etc): all this info has been gathered from Phase I projects but there is a pending issue in the case of new ones. Therefore, we should define o Specific information needed from them (what) o Timeline (when) o Format (how) This will be reflected in their DoWs (I assume that in the proposal they have tried to synchronize with FI-WARE based on the info published in the wiki), but now a more formal agreement on bilateral communications and info flows is required. My two cents. Are they expecting presentations at technical level (maybe a technical overview of the project for the purpose of informing new projects in Phase II? I think that the participation of the project could vary depending on the kind of discussions that will happen there: for example, synchronization for the purpose of using or deploying infrastructures could require very concrete information on the testbed roadmap (I suppose this could still be explained by you, but maybe more details are needed), another aspect could be the preparation of Phase III, which is something that falls under the responsibility of FI-WARE, the Capacity Building and all the UC projects (and the EC is very much interested in that), which basically involves info on the Open Innovation Lab, communication & dissemination towards third parties, etc. Is there an agenda for the meeting?
