Dear partners,

I would like to report the contents of the meetings of the FI PPP that have been held this week in Brussels.

Meetings: Use Case meeting & Steering Board of the FI PPP

When & Where: 26th-27th March, Brussels

Who: representatives of all the projects of the FI PPP, including FI-WARE, INFINITY, the Use Cases and CONCORD

A depict briefly the discussions held in Brussels pointing out some VERY RELEVANT issues for FI-WARE, but you can find attached the official minutes circulated today by CONCORD (as well as the agenda and some complementary material).

· FI PPP Working Groups

o The dissemination WG is working as expected and the main topic now is the organization of the FI PPP presence in Aalborg. In the last years there was an event focused on Future Internet besides FI (the so called Future Internet Conference). This year this will not happen, but the EC is organizing kind-of Infoday of the Second Call for proposals of the FI PPP. How to organize it (which contents and our role there is still unclear, but I will keep you informed). FI-WARE in any case will be present in a very interesting session in FIA.

o In the last SB a new WG was approved, focused on Business models and exploitation. My colleagues Juan (WP11 leader) and Carmen are following it on behalf of FI-WARE. They will have a face-to-face meeting in Aalborg

o A new WG was proposed in this SB, this time focused on policy and regulation (see further information in the minutes)

· Second Phase of the FI PPP & support from FI-WARE

o One of the hot topics of these meetings has been the support that FI-WARE will provide to the Use Case projects in their trials

o Questions that Use Cases have made in a quite aggressive way (especially because they are not satisfied about the answers by FI-WARE are)

§ Which test bed will they use for their trials? What will be the availability of the test bed in Seville for their initial pilots and furthermore, the trials that will happen in Phase II (even though no current project is confirmed for the next phase)

§ Kind of support FI-WARE will provide (in terms of QoS, which functionalities and to which extend they can trust the performance of the platform from the point of view of scalability or other issues needed for the tests?

§ Support also in terms of training to technicians in the use case projects

§ With respect to the Phase II of the PPP there was also a difficult discussion related to the responsibilities of each project: who will instantiate the Core Platform, and so on and so forth

Please, have a look at the attached PPT used by Werner Mohr (from NSN) and representing the FINSENY project in the SB that shows quite clearly major concerns of the Use Case projects with respect to FI-WARE.

I can tell you that they are worried about possible delays and reliability of FI-WARE and all of them have their plan B. I tried to show as much collaboration as possible and openness from FI-WARE, still maintaining the statements of our project with respect to our responsibilities vis-à-vis those issues.

However, I realized that Peter Fatelnig (who attended the SB) was not happy about this approach and he wants that Use Case projects use the SB a decision-support body to put pressure on FI-WARE regarding delays, availability and reliability of the project results. I think it is fair but requires that we face these issues in a serious way-.

I explained that the AB is working on a paper that will give positions on the main issues already identified by the INIFNITY project in a former paper that has been used as basis for discussion. Juanjo, the commitment is that this paper (with clear commitments of FI-WARE) is ready by Mid-April and is distributed to the SB for discussion and decisions.

I will explain in more detail all the contents in the next PCC teleconference. Meanwhile do not hesitate to come back to me for any doubt you may have.

Best regards,

Nuria de Lama
