[Fiware-portals] URGENTE Fwd: Mailing list and some statistics

Hola,

¿ o no ?

  Saludos,

-- Juanjo

Hi Arian,

I have upload to dropbox the mailbox of the fiware-lab-help mailing list so that you can see the interaction. Generally speaking, it doesn't look too bad to me but may require some analysis. You can download it from here:

  https://www.dropbox.com/s/5mwjvipucb7pgrt/fiware-lab-help

I guess that if you copy this file in the folder where your mail client stores the mailbox folders, then you will be able to read it. At least, you can read it through Thunderbird, so an option could be that you install Thunderbird and then open the folder. In the worst case, you can open it with from your browser. The only issue is that you will see it in plain text format, I guess while with a mail client you will be able to explore by subject, follow the threads of discussions, etc.

Some times the team has interacted with a given user through skype, right after (s)he has issued a request for help on the list ... of course, we haven't been able to capture that interaction

We have also performed some analysis of the statistics of the FI-Lab website. Despite reaching conclusions from these kind of analysis uses to be difficult, it seems like we are making slow but good progress with respect to the number of relevant users. By "relevant users" I refer to users that seem to be regularly working on FI-Lab after the Campus Party Brasil, i.e., users that work on FI-Lab almost every day, as compared those who visit the environment, play with it along one day or two and then it seems like they haven't visit FI-Lab anymore. The number of unique visitors is 2.529 users in 2014, but I wanted to be more demanding when looking at the figures. In this respect, I believe that we have evolved from about 22 users up to 133 when talking about "relevant" users.

Of course, 133 users may not look appealing to a member of NK's cabinet ... because they won't understand that this is not like measuring number of users in Facebook. So be careful when sharing this data :-) We are talking about cloud users, i.e., app developers. IMHO, it is a rather good sign given the fact that FI-Lab is alive since only 6 months roughly and it is still not that much visible beyond the FI-PPP. Ending up next year with figures in the range of thousands would be actually a success. I believe that current statistics are a sign that we may reach those figures. Again, we are not talking about users that have connected to FI-Lab, play with it for a while, and then leave. We have thousands of them already. When referring to the 133, it seems like we are talking about people that has decided to stay and is trying to do something. Also IMHO, if visibility of FI-WARE becomes higher and the support we offer is relatively decent, then we may have reach a point at which we may experiment an explosion.

The major issue now is that we are approaching the current maximum computing capacity (still we haven't yet been able to activate the addicional computing capacity in Sevilla, Málaga and Las Palmas because the physical infrastructure is still not ready to deploy FI-WARE on top). Over-subscription is leading to situations where users are not able to launch a VM. So far, we had been able to "survive" because we dropped out the VMs of those users we detected that they spent just one day or to and did nothing but now it seems like they are actually working :-) Hopefully, we will be able to solve this in a matter of days ... or at least this is what Red.es is telling us. We desperately need to expand the computing capacity because I foreseen we will soon have a demand in the range of hundred of users ...

  Hope it helps,

-- Juanjo
