[Fiware-roadmap-digital-twin] Smart Data Models Working Group

Hi everyone,

   As you know, the Smart Data Models initiative (github 
<https://github.com/smart-data-models>, website 
<https://smartdatamodels.org/>), provides developers with a library of 
open royalty-free Data Models described in JSON/JSON-LD format which are 
compatible respectively with the NGSIv2/NGSI-LD APIs bringing access to 
context / digital twin data.   The combination of an open standard API 
and common data models is the way full portability and interoperability 
of smart solutions powered by FIWARE is achieved.

   Since its creation a couple of years ago, the initiative has gained a 
lot of momentum and the number of organizations not only using data 
models published under the initiative but contributing new data models 
is constantly growing.   Data Models published under the initiative are 
compatible with schema.org and comply with other existing de-facto 
domain standards when they exist (e.g., IEC CIM in Energy).   The 
initiative was launched by FIWARE Foundation and TM Forum initially, 
IUDX (initiative driving standards for Urban Data Exchange in India) 
joined last year and, during our last FIWARE Smart Fest, we also 
announced that OASC (Open and Agile Smart Cities) joined, establishing 
the Smart Data Models initiative as baseline for OASC MIM-2, targeted to 
develop a library of data models every city in the world is invited to 
adopt.

   Adopting the same approach as with relevant FIWARE roadmap activities 
(Digital Twins, Data Spaces, AI/ML, DLTs, Robotics), we have decided to 
create a specific WG on Smart Data Models that organizations willing to 
contribute or meet regularly to follow up progress on activities within 
the Smart Data Models initiative are invited to join.    Alberto Abella, 
copied in this mail, is coordinating this WG and the initiative 
overall.  A mailing list has been created you can subscribe to through 
this page <https://lists.fiware.org/listinfo/fiware-smart-data-models>.
