Dear Juanjo,
I am out of office until 25 May and not able to participate in the proposed
meetings. I will talk to you about these when returning.
Cheers,

Basecamp. *Great
opportunity for FIWARE entrepreneurs at the MWC'16, particularly those
developing applications for Smart Cities and Smart Agrifood*
We would like to share what we believe could be a *exciting opportunity
for many of the startups/SMEs involved in the FIWARE accelerator project*,
particularly those dealing with development of applications for the Smart
Agrifood domain or for cities (or useful for citizens/business in a city)

Telefónica and KT (Korean Telecom) are leading a project within GSMA
which has to do with pushing for the definition of common platform APIs and
data models enabling context information management (IoT data being part of
the context information that is captured through sensor networks). It is
proposed that these standard APIs and data models be adopted in the
platforms provided by mobile operators in order to support interoperability
and portability of smart context-aware applications.

GSMA is the organization who designed the GSM standard, more info can be
found at http://www.gsma.com/aboutus/history. We believe that
collaboration among mobile operators towards a common standard for context
information (including IoT data) management could bring a significant
impact the same way the GSM network did.

We have been able to position FIWARE as basis for the standards to be
adopted. Particularly FIWARE NGSI is being adopted as the basis for
publishing, querying or subscribing to context information (which includes
but is not limited to IoT data).

*The interesting news is that several showcases are planned to be
implemented in this GSMA project targeted to demonstrate the possibilities
of FIWARE NGSI and these showcases will be presented at the next Mobile
World Congress (MWC) event in 2016 !!*. Smart Cities and Smart Agrifood
have been selected as two areas for which showcases will be built. In
both cases, it is intended that concrete applications are showcased and
indeed the data models they require to run be standardized. *This brings
a great opportunity for entrepreneurs that get involved to showcase their
FIWARE-based applications in an event of the magnitude of the MWC !!* As
you can imagine, both Telefónica and KT as well as the GSMA and other
mobile operators who may join the project would also perform
marketing/dissemination of the showcases which would also benefit the
entrepreneurs !! I believe that it may bring opportunities for commercial
collaboration.

We want to move fast and be able to select a first round of applications
for these showcases before mid June. The goal would be to have a first
prototype of them running around October. Of course, we would like to run
these selection considering the startups/SMEs selected within the FIWARE
Acceleration Programme. We will try to engage some of the cities linked
to the OASC initiative for the showcase on Smart Cities. We need to find
out how we can engage some farms for the Smart Agrifood showcase
(suggestions here coming from the SmartAgrifood project are welcomed.

Because of the nature of showcases (exchange of context information, part
of which and significantly should come from the IoT space) goal is to
select applications who at least use the Context Broker GE (Orion) and the
IoT Backend Device Management GE (IDAS). In other words, IoT should be
relevant in the application and context-awareness behaviour as well. Usage
of CKAN as portal for the publishing of NGSI query datasets is also
considered.

*We would like to carry out a candidate selection during the FIWARE
Developers Week in Vienna*. Startups/SMEs who see this as an opportunity
are welcome to attend and perform a presentation, otherwise we will judge
based on available information. It would be an excellent opportunity for
them to attend the FIWARE Developers Week we are running there and coach
them on how to use the FIWARE GEs that are relevant for the GSMA showcase.
We would like to engage with the FIWARE Accelerator projects to see how
we can effectively implement the process (how to get detailed written
information, otherwise how elevator pitches can be organized). For this
purpose, *we will organize two confcalls to give you more details about
this GSMA project and the process to follow. One this Friday May 15th
from 09:30-11:00 and another one on Monday May 18th also from 09:30-11:00*.
We can use powwownow: PIN: 072704, local dial-in phone numbers at:
http://pdf.powwownow.com/pdf/USA_en_pwn-dial-in-numbers.pdf).

We understand that the following accelerator projects may be interested
to join but we would appreciate very much if they confirm they would be
interested in the process:

   - Smart Cities:
      - CEED Tech
       - EuropeanPioneers
      - FI-C3
      - Finodex
       - frontierCities
      - IMPACT
       - INCENSe
       - SOUL-FI
       - SpeedUP!

   - Smart Agrifood:
      - FRACTALS
      - FInish
      - Finodex Apply
      - SmartAgriFood
      - SpeedUP!

A clarification to avoid misunderstandings: No extra-funding will be
given away to entrepreneurs involved in development of the showcases.
Neither Telefónica nor KT receive any funding for their participation in
this project. We assume that the degree of visibility and exposure not
only to media but potential customers will be relevant enough for potential
applicants.

A last note. MWC 2016 would be February 2016. *While we will run a
first selection of applications now in order to get a first prototype in
October, we also plan to play a second round of selections in November*.
This may be interesting for entrepreneurs you may have selected as a result
of open calls which we may evaluate around that date. They may be added
to the showcase to be presented at the MWC.

Please disseminate this among your entrepreneurs. *Don't let them miss
this great opportunity!!*

  Cheers,

  Juanjo
