URBIS 2019 Specialist Smart City conference, prestigious RUGGEDISED project, and developing evidence-based policymaking with the project Science Meets Regions
---
The second annual URBIS SMART CITY FAIR 2019 is offering a unique expert program with participation from Smart City specialists. This prestigious conference will be complemented by a trade fair, attended by leading suppliers of smart solutions for conurbations large and small.   Over two days – 5th and 6th of June 2019 – visitors will be introduced to leaders in the field, an encounter boosted by the convening of an international meeting of the RUGGEDISED project, part of the EU research and innovation programme Horizon 2020. New for this year is the decision to combine the event with the conference Science Meets Regions/Science Meets Parliaments, which Brno is organizing in co-operation with the European Parliament.

These two days are going to be busily supported by an attractive programme. The first day will be devoted to successful examples of the Smart City concept in practice around Europe. The second day will examine practical examples closer to home in Central Europe. Both days will involve ample and rewarding discussions. The event will touch on five key topics: smart suburbs, the digital city, municipal energy policy, sustainable transport and water.

Horizon 2020: RUGGEDISED
---
The two-day trade fair will also include an international meeting of partners as part of the unique RUGGEDISED project, part of the EU research and innovation programme Horizon 2020 Smart Cities and Communities.

And what’s the aim of this project in Brno? Transforming the Brno quarter of Špitálka into a smart district, and to achieve this using best practice from other European cities. What will emerge will be a low-energy, accessible and community-centred district using smart solutions. The most interesting and most innovative projects from across the whole of Europe will be represented thanks to a meeting of the consortium of cities from the Horizon 2020 programme, including representatives of the European Commission.

Science Meets Parliaments/Science Meets Regions conference: striving to establish links between scientists and the public, and to support political decision-making based on scientific knowledge
---
URBIS 2019 is also hosting the conference Science Meets Parliaments/Science Meets Regions, which seeks to bring together as may relevant partners in the city of Brno and the region as possible for the purpose of developing evidence-based policymaking. It also aims to create a knowledge-sharing platform. The theme for this year is: green innovation in the energy sector.
