News says some 450 MW of the capacity is to be allocated to CSP projects and seven CSP projects were bid. One year has passed after the exciting announcement, however, the results of the tender are still up in the air and are expected in the coming months. > > As the sheet summarized by CSP Focus shows, a total capacity of 600MW (7 projects) were awarded for CSP projects during the last four rounds in REIPPPP, and 1/3 are operational. And Redstone just announced break-ground earlier this month and is expected to be commissioned by 2018. As far, CSP industry development in South Africa seems to be going quite well and surely attracts large number of global and local players to join. As for the next round 4.5, competition is becoming fiercer, in which projects joined include KotuloTsatsi, Rooipunt and Kalkaar by SolarReserve & ENGIE, Solis I by BrightSource and one by ACWA, all are of 150MW capacity. It can be predicted that 4 projects with around 150MW per will be finally awarded during Round 4.5 > > REIPPPP CSP Allocation by Round 3.5: > REIPPPP Awarded Time Total Capacity (MW) Project Name Project Capacity (MW) Technology Developer Status > Round 1 Dec. 2011 150 Kaxu Solar One 100 Parabolic Trough Abengoa & IDC Operational > Khi Solar One 50 Tower Abengoa & IDC Operational > Round 2 May. 2012 50 Bokpoort 50 Parabolic Trough ACWA Operational > Round 3 Oct. 2013 200 Xina Solar One 100 Parabolic Trough Abengoa Construction > Ilanga 1 100 Parabolic Trough Emvelo & Cobra Construction > Round 3.5 Nov. 2014 200 Kathu 100 Parabolic Trough ENGIE Construction > Redstone 100 Tower SolarReserve & ACWA Construction > At the exhilarating moment of Southern Africa CSP market, CSP Focus South Africa is coming during Nov.23-24 in Johannesburg.
