Hi everyone,
In the last month, we at the FIWARE Foundation have held a couple of
meetings with representatives of the Vlaanderen
<https://www.vlaanderen.be/> initiative from Flanders, Belgium.
This is a very interesting initiative which aims at creating a space
for data sharing based on a number of agreed open standards.
Concretely, they are advocating for the adoption of LDES (Linked Data
Event Streaming) <https://semiceu.github.io/LinkedDataEventStreams/> as
a main mean for sharing data. LDES is based on the TREE hypermedia
specification <https://treecg.github.io/specification/> and both are
specifications adopted by the W3C.
You can check these two good webinars to learn more about LDES and
the vision behind:
* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89UVTahjCvo&t=1111s (this
presentation is part of a wider event, so I have provided a link
that starts at the concrete presentation and you may not need to
consider the rest of presentations coming after)
* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jp4ciO4Y63U (more detailed technical
presentation which assumes you had view the previous)
IMHO, the functionalities in LDES are not only complementary to what
NGSI-LD brings today but provides a good basis on top of which NGSI-LD
can be extended with capabilities that would allow consumers of data to
query for "fragments" of context they will process locally but to which
they will be synced through some sort of notification mechanism. LDES
can also be used for implementing advanced federation of context brokers.
I have proposed the team of the Vlaanderen initiative to create a
working group for analyzing further how LDES capabilities can be
incorporated into NGSI-LD. We, from FIWARE Foundation, will certainly
join that group but I would like to propose others involved in NGSI-LD
activities to join as well. Goal would be to generate an initial
proposal on how to incorporate LDES capabilities into NGSI-LD. With
such initial proposal, we would initiate the discussion within ETSI as
it has happened with other new functions incorporated recently into
NGSI-LD specs.
I have invited the team of the Vlaandereen initiative to make a
presentation on LDES during our TSC this Monday since the major topic
for this TSC will be discussing about NGSI-LD evolution, therefore it
made a lot of sense. That could be a good start for kicking off the
mentioned working group.
@Martin: please plan the agenda considering we will devote 30 mins of
the TSC for to make a presentation on LDES. I suggest that we start
with this item in the agenda. We shall plan like 30 mins on LDES, 45
mins to one hour on other NGSI-LD evolution plans and 30-45 mins to
follow up on status of the different Context Broker implementations.
Cheers,
