[Fiware-technical-committee] Resuming coordination meetings on Data Space Framework activities

Hi all,

I'm very proud to announce that today we had resumed the
community-driven follow-up meetings on Data Space activities we had
every Wednesday under the umbrella of FIWARE TSC technical roadmap
activities.

You know that the core team that was involved in these activities at
the FIWARE Foundation was hit hardly due to recent lay-offs at the
FIWARE Foundation.  However, we intend to recover from that situation
following a community-driven approach.  This has to be one of those
moments where a problem can be turned into an opportunity and this is
how we inted to face it.

Stefan Wiedemann, core developer of data space components has joined
member company FICodes as employee and this will allow him to continue
working on data space components, as well as participate in some
developments for DOME which will ensure that the FIWARE Data Space
Connector will be the best one in the market compatible with the TM
Forum standards prescribed in DOME (you may know DOME is a strategic
project by the EC intended to build a markeplace of Cloud and Edge
services, but TM Forum standards are adopteded widely worldwide
supported by relevant Service Providers).  These are rather great news.
Stefan will help to bring continuity to the great work done before.

UPM will add also a number of resources to the development of missing
components (e.g., components targeted to support some relevant IDSA Data
Space protocols) and aspect related to the support of policies specified
in ODRL as well as some advanced features.

People from Capillar IT and ITA-Innova will be working on testing
what is delivered and make sure good guidelines are made available for
organizations and projects willing to adopt the FIWARE Data Space
Connector.  I will be contacting organizations that had already
expressed in the past their willingness to test and use the FIWARE Data
Space Connector, trying to engage them in these activities.

Several members of the FIWARE Foundation technical team (Tim Smyth,
Gernot Boege, Jason Fox) joined the call and this is a good sign that
also the FIWARE Foundation may continue contributing with resources as
much as they can.

I have contacted Vincent de Mortier in the hope we can revamp the
DSCaaS (Data Space Connector as a Service) activities as important part
of this community-driven effort.  I still believe the target goal of
developing a robust framework allowing FIWARE iHubs to leverage on the
concept of FIWARE Data Space Connector as a Service Testing and
Experimentation Facility, helping companies to "test before invest"
(nice lemma created by Vincent) is of strategic relevance.   That is why
I also copy him and the FIWARE iHub MSC mailing list.

One of the first tasks will have to do with revisiting the roadmap
and establishing priorities.

Anyone who wish to join this effort, please contact Tim Smyth
<tim.smyth at fiware.org> or me so that we make sure you have the calendar
invite.

After we stabilize a bit, I hope we will be able to run an open
meeting with the larger FIWARE Community.  Target goal should be end of
the month.  That would be an additional opportunity to invite more
organizations to join.

   Cheers,

   Juanjo Hierro

   Chairman, FIWARE Technical Steering Committee
