Hi all, Just a few words also from me regarding the review. Generally it went better than I had expected. However the reviewers had some critical questions, also regarding WebUI. It was extremely useful that we have done the execise to reevaluate our GEs as done a couple of weeks ago. In the preparation, it was actually decided that I should prepare some slides on the overall architecture and the evolution of GEs, which also included our changes. This was very well received by the reviewers and hopefully made it clear why and how WebUI fits well into the overall scheme of FIWARE. Specifically the work between POI and CB/NGSI and the potential role that Sync/FiVES could play in this context was very much appreciated. A key message in this presentation was that FIWARE is more than a few highly used GEs but rather that its value comes from the effects of a network of many cooperative technologies. The reviewers then asked about each of our GEs and thier relevance for FIWARE. I think this went pretty well, but there might be changes that the reviewers would like to see. It seemed for example that they were not sure whether virtual characters are really needed for visualizing data in smart cities. Given that they want to see more focus on the core parts of FIWARE this and related arguments might come up. However, they made it also clear that any changes will be decided and implemented by the consortium itself (based on their recommendation). A final decision should be provided by mid September and be implemented in a change of the contract. I am in the US forthe next three weeks but we should take time after that to discuss the next steps. Torsten will run the chapter while I am gone. But I am available by email where needed. Note that the review didn't close as usual, that is, reviewers and the PO meeting together and then coming back to give us early feedback. That part of the review didn't happen because indeed was not planned. Therefore, there is little I can say regarding feedback from the EC or reviewers. The review took place as expected. Presentations on the individual FIWARE GEs took longer than expected, but we managed to review them all, giving enough time to individual presentations. I have attached a version of the agenda we followed, with more or less the timing devoted to each slot as I recall it. We reviewed new GEs during the first day, while we reviewed also some of the existing GEs during the second day. If I recall it properly: First day: * Data/Media Context Management chapter o Metadata Store Management Platform GE o Data Agregator GE o Semantic Annotation GE o Event-driven orchestration GE (currently renamed as Cloud Messaging GE) * Advanced middleware and I2ND: o Netfloc GE o Robotics GE * Security chapter: o Trustworthy GE Second day: * Apps/Service and Data Delivery: o Data Visualization (SpagoBI) GE o Business Framework GEs + Marketplace (WMarket) GE + Store (WStore) GE + Repository RI GE + Revenue Settlement and Sharing GE * Security Chapter: o Cyber Security related GEs (evolution of old Security Monitoring GE) o Privacy GE (inherited from FI-WARE, not still in the FIWARE catalogue, but planned to be part of release 4) * Advanced middleware and I2ND: o OFNIC o KIARA Presentations were dynamic, so reviewers were making questions during them. This meant that duration of presentations were longer than expected but overall it went well. It is hard to know which will be the FIWARE GEs for which the EC and reviewers will recommend to stop the funding. My guess is that reviewers and the EC will assess the impact that each will bring in terms of catching the attention of a wider community of developers, raising awareness about FIWARE or completing the FIWARE offering regarding concrete application domains. Info about FIWARE GEs actually being used by the startups/SMEs under the FIWARE Accelerator programme is an input also to be considered. Quality/maturity of the FIWARE GEs is, on the other hand, a must requirement to be met. However, they didn't give any clue on which ones might be those. Some people attending the review commented that they had the impression that everything had already been decided before the review, but I'm not that sure. Jesús Villasante put a lot of emphasis in that the programme has approached a very crucial point, where focus has to be in ensuring that we provide the support that is expected and also that the quality of software we deliver is high. The potential stop of funding of some of the GEs is only intended to free resources that can be devoted to reinforce activities linked to support and improvements in the quality of FIWARE GEs. Regarding the presentation on the new communications strategy, there was some discussion regarding the need to define a marketing plan more targeted to vertical sectors where we want to deliver FIWARE as a proposition. It seems like the EC is now evolving so that it is doesn't want to focus just on supporting the startups/SMEs under phase 3 of the programme but really go to vertical markets with a concrete value proposition (like it is happening with Smart Cities). The EC promised to send us an email with early feedback along this week and come with the formal review report on August 20th. It would bring recommendations they would like to see implemented in an amendment that would be ready by mid September. I believe that this is all. If someone else that attended the review wants to add something, please don't hesitate to do so. I'll take advantage of this mail to thank all who worked hard in preparing the review and also those who participated in the review itself.
