Dear Arian and Vanessa, dear reviewers,

This is the official resubmission of D2.3.1 - FI-WARE Architecture. You can download it from:
https://forge.fi-ware.eu/docman/view.php/7/1643/D.2.3.1b_FI-WARE_Architecture.pdf

As you know, Open Specifications of each FI-WARE GEs comprises a description of the "Basic Concepts" underlying the definition of the FI-WARE GE and a high-level view of the "Main Interactions" of the FI-WARE GE using interfaces/operations exported by the GE that potential users (including other GEs) can invoke. Those are aspects related to the Architecture of each FI-WARE GE and, therefore, part of the overall FI-WARE Architecture. Therefore, a relevant % of the contents of this deliverable are contents you have had the opportunity to review in the deliverables linked to FI-WARE Chapter Open Specifications. Don't feel worried about having to review another new 571 pages in the last moment :-)

Please also bear in mind that the FI-WARE Architecture deliverable was intended to help a potential application developer, FI-WARE GE implementer or FI-WARE Instance Provider to understand what FI-WARE GEs were going to provide, providing more details than those provided in the initial "FI-WARE Product Vision (High-level Description)" deliverable but without the need to get into the details of API specifications (i.e., signature of operations, etc.).

The FI-WARE Architecture was also defined to allow UC projects to gain a relatively good understanding of what was going to be delivered in a given release of FI-WARE, without waiting to the final release of the complete specifications. Therefore, the approach taken is incremental: FI-WARE GE Open Specifications extend contents of the FI-WARE Architecture, adding the details of FI-WARE GE API specifications.

Another relevant point to take into account is that the contents of the FI-WARE Architecture get updated whenever a new version of the FI-WARE GE Open Specifications is delivered. This is to ensure consistency. That's why we have delivered the FI-WARE Architecture now, right after review and re-submission of the FI-WARE GE Open Specifications and not before.

Last but not least, we believe that it is worth to remind that our goal with the first release of FI-WARE was to bring an enough-complete set of FI-WARE GEs the UC projects could play with, also enabling to identify potential gaps that could be covered through Open Calls. While some level of integration has already been achieved, a more closer integration of FI-WARE GEs within each chapter and across chapters is rather the focus of the 2nd Release. Furthermore, we anticipate that several aspects about the right approach for integration will come with the experience trying to develop some concrete usage scenarios. It is important to situate expectations at the right level.

  Best regards,

-- Juanjo Hierro
