[Fiware-wpa] [Fiware-wpl] extracting the catalog to a printed version - PoC

Dear Miguel,

please do not do this. - En contraire, I would opt for having the impulse go to the other direction and enableing the partners to release their software related documentation as soon as poosible!

Deleting now the links, right before of the review has the danger to degenerate our performance a lot

- Reviewers might think we didn't release anything, although we are in FI-WARE v3 development already for quite some time

- Some software was only release in v3 & some partners deleted their v2 entries, while updating their software-links to v3

- Some software might not have software linked at all then - what would a reviewer think?

- The forge exposes these files anyhow, what would a reviewer think if he finds things in the forge, but not in the catalogue

On the other hand:

- The danger that reviewers find information and download software which is "only" documented for v2 is acceptable - we have good reasons (internal quality measures), but still can demonstrate that we are not dormant and release as soon as possible and with a strong delivery-driven thinking!

I know you quality-plan was grafted differently, but please no hasty action now, which such a high level of danger.

Thanks for you understanding,

                                                                              /Thorsten

Hi,

This is actually very, very useful.

There is a first example of things that surprise at first sight. I do not have time now but I wonder why some partners have published R3.x software. As stated, software must be published together with the manuals, not loosely. And software manuals need a previous approval. I may hide all these R3.x entries in the Files tool and ask the admin of the catalogue to delete the links to cut it short. We all must keep at bay all this maverick editing - WPLs could/should help here, by the way.

Best regards,

Miguel

   Hi,

Concerning "printing" the catalog-content, I updated the approach with a version with most current changes & some tweaks in the layout J

Some GEs will fit into 1 or 2 pages - so they in theory could be printed in duplex mode "one" paper with the information given currently.

   Still: any feedback appreciated

Please find attached and updated and "most current" version of the document... I wouldn't recommend to send it to the EC, but at least for internal review and quickly comparing the various entries - I think its might already help.

Status of the content of the catalog was captured around 17:20 today... and then some layouting improvements were applied manually. As some GE use different headings (e.g. H1 instead of H2, the layout breaks actually in a number of places and this needs to be fixed manually).

   12 GE - WP3 Apps chapters

   9 GE - WP4 Cloud chapter

   10 GE - WP5 Data chapter

   7 GE - WP6 IoT chpater

   9 GE - WP7 I2ND chapter

   13 GE - WP8 Security chapter

   5 Tools WP9 Tools chapter

   -------------------

65 number of GEs were processed

   Best,

                                                  /Thorsten

e.g. one might imagine that we layout it with a bit of the new design flavor as shown below. With 2-colum layout where all GE have a page-break before their paragraph.... for some this would be ready for 1-page documents if the font sizes are decreased a bit...
I'm not a word-designer, but just to give you some food for thought...

Anybody some ideas on the open points or what to change?

   - Some more of the fields to be exposed here? Contact? Something else?

   - Should images be supported? I think it's CloudEdge, QueryBroker, IoT-gateway which are using this.

   - Layout can be improved further improved (whoever is a word guru...)

   - Chapter level headings are missing (currently I ordered the list in relation to the chapters)

   - (Automatic) Parsing of the "Availability" and then adding e.g. some icons to visualize better the availability modus: "open source", "FI-PPP", ...

   - Different table comuns/names/content?

   - ...

   Best,

                                                                  /Thorsten

   Dear colleagues,

This is for the discussion on how to make a "printable" version of the catalogue to be submitted either prior to the review or during the review:

As first proof-point and just to emphasize that we might manage to compile this kind of information "within this week", I precompiled the "Terms and conditions" and the "overview" tab out of the current cataloge-system automatically.

   See attachment...

There are obvious "problems" but as a PoC this works quite well and reuses the wiki as intermediary (I took for testing the apps wiki, but can have this everywhere...)

   - Images are not printed and not copied (e.g. Cloud Edge)

   - Layout can be improved

   - More fields might be relevant for extraction

   - Chapter level headings are missing (currently I ordered the list in relation to the chapters)

   Any comments appreciated.

   Best,

                                                                  /Thorsten
