Dear All, I do support the proposal by Stefano, to implement filtering both on wpl/wpa mailing lists and on all the other fiware-nnn mailing lists (as spamming has become rather aggressive in the past two-three weeks). I would vote Option 2 for wpl/wpa lists and Option 1 for all the other lists. My two cents, Stefano 2013/3/19 Sandfuchs, Thorsten <thorsten.sandfuchs at sap.com<mailto:thorsten.sandfuchs at sap.com>> Dear WPL/WPA We would like come forward with a proposal to change the policy on how mails to the lists fiware-wpl at lists.fi-ware.eu<mailto:fiware-wpl at lists.fi-ware.eu> and fiware-wpa at lists.fi-ware.eu<mailto:fiware-wpa at lists.fi-ware.eu> are currently moderated/filtered. Please indicate if you support this approach or want to object to it and what option would be your favorite one. Please respond within the next two weeks (EOB 29.03.) to hopefully implement the changes starting with the second week of april (8th of april). Current situation: - All emails of non-members get in a queue of a moderator - The moderator judges by the relevance for "general interest" and is denying or allowing the request (in most cases the request passes this filter and is posted to the list) Rationale: - The rationale behind this is to have a tight control on who is able to post on the list and to filter spam New approach: Option 1: filter & automatically approve emails based on regular expressions on company level related to FI-PPP members (e.g. @tid.es<http://tid.es> @ibm.com<http://ibm.com>, ...) Option 2: filter & automatically approve emails based on members subscribed to the forge (if members has an account-email address, take this emailaddress as valid poster to the list) - All non-pre-filtered (option 1 or 2) emails will still be routed to the moderator as is the current situation - New: the moderator should allow every "human" and obvious "non-spam" email to pass to the list New Rational: - The sole purpose of the new filter mechanism is now to filter out spam emails by bots - Responsibility on who is posting to the list lies solely on the poster. The lists are not governed by a moderator from a content perspective. - We enable more timely emails to the lists by members and non-members The new approach of both options is from a technology perspective quite easy to implement (given standard mailman functionality). Our recommendation and preferred option: option 1 as it as well lowers the administrative overhead for the moderator and is the most "open communication" encouraging approach. This initiative is not really related to a particular case, but the general notion of having emails delayed is to our opinion a potential risk for the project success. While the effort of filtering spam is highly appreciated, as it is lowering our burden to process more mails, we shouldn't constraint ourselves to much and allow every (human) voice to be heart on the lists and encourage and support the communication to be as open as possible.
