[Fiware-wpl] [Fiware-wpa] Fwd: Draft of the FI-WARE First Open Call announcement

Dear Juanjo, dear Leads,

here my thoughts according the current draft of the call announcements.


1.       2. paragraph is weak and does not reflect the full vision of FI-Ware as it is given in the High-level Vision document. Here it is clearly stated that the goals is to build the Core Platform of FI.  The first paragraph under Visions and Goals is much better:

The high-level goal of the FI-WARE project is to build the Core Platform of the Future Internet. This Core Platform, also referred to as the "FI-WARE Platform" or simply "FI-WARE" throughout the rest of this document, will dramatically increase the global competitiveness of the European ICT economy by introducing an innovative infrastructure for cost-effective creation and delivery of versatile digital services, providing high QoS and security guarantees. As such, it will provide a powerful foundation for the Future Internet, stimulating and cultivating a sustainable ecosystem for (a) innovative service providers delivering new applications and solutions meeting the requirements of established and emerging Usage Areas; and (b) end users and consumers actively participating in content and service consumption and creation. Building this ecosystem will strongly influence the deployment of new wireless and wired infrastructures and will promote innovative business models and their acceptance by final users.



2.       My personal feeling is that "Middleware" in the first topic of the call is somehow misleading since middleware can be anything. Isn't the whole FI-Ware middleware? I would rather recommend to avoid this term and keep with the GE term only, which is central to FI-Ware. The text should just provide a description of the functionality and requirements for the GE. This description is currently a bit too fuzzy. I think it would be better to separate the individual objectives (high-performance communication, QoS enabler,  security accountability and traceability???)

3.       It should be made clear that there must be an implementation of the GE and the GE must integrate properly into the FI-Ware overall architecture, especially with existing GE.

  Please find enclosed the draft version of the first FI-WARE Open Call announcement that we have submitted to our PO, Arian Zwegers.

  This document is just a draft.   Suggestions on how to further improve it are welcomed prior to its publication planned on January 31, 2012.

  Note that we have selected a closing date for the Open Call that would allow submitters to specify whether their proposal would be based on integration of results coming from a potentially funded project under FP7 ICT Call 8.
