Thanks Davide for your effort & proposal to remove it. As I'm currently acting on behalf of WP3-L (Markus being out of office), I vote for the removal of the forum. Dear Thorsten, thank you very much for your valuable point of view and suggestions. The "new" feature is available since more that one year, and it has been setup to support the information sharing between members of the developers community. The proposal at the beginning was to have one forum per entry/GEi but we (Tools chapter) thought that this solution would end up in a fragmentation of information ... it's better to open a top level forum where threads by GEi could be created. There may be various reasons why at the moment this forum is still not so much used, and one may be that, probably, we haven't been able to advertise it in the proper way ... I definitely do not see a conflict in terms of communication channels, we have the forge to collect inputs from UC projects, we have JIRA to collect inputs from the developers community, and this forum to enable the communication between the members of the developers community ... and in respect to this, the best place to have it is in the Catalogue. Given said that, if all the WP leaders want to remove this feature from the Catalogue, we can proceed to remove it very quickly. [cid:image001.jpg at 01CEEC29.F852BFF0] Although it might be a nice feature (and somehow opening up our communication channels), I think its not more than "nice-tohave" but even there are strong downsides to this which might even harm the project reputation: - An empty forum will be screened by the reviewers wondering if there is no feedback or uptake - You can only post to the forum once you are logged in (gives the false impression to actually be open & this is probably the main reason that people are not posting to this) - Providing a forum where only FI-WARE personel (which to my knowledge are the only people with logins to the forge) is nonsense as the people would rather use email to communicate or ask questions about the catalogue - Provide a public forum where you can just give feedback towards "the catalogue" but not the enablers, does not make much sense - where is the communication on where to give feedback on the GEs? - It again introduces a new system and feedback channel which seems not related to existing channels and might give the impression that we are not unifying our systems, but rather creating more complexity! Overall as the main focus for the catalogue is to provide externally facing and consistent information (and is in all other apects strongly monitored, I wonder why on earth we should provide fi-ware personnel the ability to post arbitrary stuff in the forum on the catalog and not govern this external facing channel as closely as all the other parts of the system) - the catalogue AFAIK is not entitled to provide a feedback channel & the feedback channels is in the current format even degenerate the quality of the site itself, therefore degenerate the content of the GE information! ð I vote strongly against providing this forum before end of this year (iff at all, and the other downsides as considered above are reconsidered or solved). It should be removed as quickly as possible and as quickly as it "evolved". How can we have a proper resolution on this and implement subsequent changes within this week? And just to top the ability of reacting upon forum-requests - the only "real" posting there is, is even not commented since 2 month! What should I say more...
