Hi all,

  Please note that this mail will translate into your involvement as member of the jury of the FI-WARE Challenges, so please read it carefully.

  As you know, there were two FI-WARE challenges that were launched in February targeted to select the best Smart Society applications (applications pursuing societal benefits) and the best applications which make use of FI-WARE technologies.

  Selection of good applications in the first two FI-WARE Challenges launched last year (Smart Cities and Smart Business) has been instrumental in spreading the word that FI-WARE technologies can really made impact. Therefore, we should spend the necessary resources to carry out a good selection process.

  As in the first two FI-WARE Challenges, the selection process will be carried out in two phases. The first one will end up selecting the 20 best applicants who submit a proposal. Applicants submitted their proposals last April 24 and now we have to carry out the selection of the best 20 applicants who will go to the finals which will be run in the Campus Party Europe event that will take place second week of September.

  300 applicants submitted a proposal to the Smart Society challenge while 126 applicants submitted a proposal to the Smart Society challenge (bear in mind, though that all people from the thematic challenges that will get a score 7 or higher will qualify to be one of the 20 finalists of the FI-WARE Excellence challenge, therefore we don't need to select 20)

  We need volunteers for being members of the jury of the first phase of the Smart Society and FI-WARE Excellence challenges. This time, we don't have to carry out this evaluation during the Christmas holidays as with the first two FI-WARE Challenges :-) but we need to get it solved during May. Therefore, unless a rather good excuse, we count that all WPLs will become part of the jury, namely:

  *   Alex Glikson
  *   Sergio García
  *   Thierry Nagellen
  *   Pier Garino
  *   Pascal Bisson
  *   Christof Marti
  *   Stefano de Panfilis
  *   Davide Dalle Carbonare
  *   myself

  I would also like to invite:

  *   Javier Soriano
  *   Philipp Slusallek
  *   someone from Kurento
  *   Thomas Bohnert
  *   Francisco Romero
  *   Fermín Galán
  * Carlos Ralli (if he is available, since he is in paternity leaving until May 12)

  There will be another two jury members proposed by Futura.

  I will forward an invitation to the whole FI-WARE consortia looking for additional volunteers (the more we have, the less work each of us will have :-)

  Best regards,

-- Juanjo
