Hi all, Let me share with you important information from today. PRESENTATION OF FIWARE to other guys of DG CONNECT * I presented FIWARE, as Core Platform, and there were two illustrative cases that you know well: Christoph, from FoodLoop and Fiona, from FINESCE, showing some scenarios in the smart energy domain: Presentations were good and I have the impression that the session went well. Ilka presented some conclusions * The important thing is that this was moderated by Gerard de Graaf (director responsible for the Work Programme), which seemed very committed to support FIWARE and push for its collaboration with other Units and specific topics in the WP * There were questions about the collaboration with the IoT people (already ongoing but maybe should be pushed) as well as potential actions to collaborate with the manufacturing people (CPS unit). * Clear actions: o Proposal to analyze the potential connection of FIWARE with EUROPEANA. Does this make sense? No one had thought about that, but suddenly it seems a great and very valuable cultural data repository. This requires analyzing the opportunities and the technical feasibility with the people from Luxembourg, in charge of Europeana. We should appoint someone to do so (Sergio?) o The EC will organize smaller workshops to understand the opportunities with each of the societal challenges (they will invite use cases of Health, manufacturing, media, etc to meet the corresponding guys in the EC dealing with those sectors) o There is also a clear objective to include FIWARE as a potential option to build upon in different topics of the WP, but this will need more discussions Private meeting with the EC (leading to IMMEDIATE ACTIONS BY FIWARE) * In private, in Villasante's office the good words became a bit worse, pointing out all the worries the EC has about us at this stage * They have asked a professional tester to check all the GE (kind of follow-up action of what Lutz did last year). The feedback is serious, because even if the value of the GE is recognized, they think we are not prepared at all for the hundreds of SMEs that will come to us NOW! * They want us to relate (hire?) professional testers (completely external to FIWARE) so that they can detect the bugs and we should react to fix them immediately * This adds to the basic need of: o Creating some information for first users about the environment (they claim that when you experiment a problem it is impossible to go on; people do not get clarity about the overall environment of FIWARE, how to deploy things, dependencies between the GEs, etc) o Including as part of our training material how to develop an application and many practical examples of already existing applications that can serve as guidance for developers The summary is that training material is far from something professional, it is difficult to install things (and our guides do not help much...like if they were made for people who have developed the GE and not the outsiders) They do not want to get complains from accelerators and the SMEs that things do not work, no one answers and it is impossible to get to know how to use the things with the exiting info. Some of the complains already arrived...but I suppose to you too (at least I already saw some e-mails). Arian will circulate the report I have mentioned probably today. The EC is confident that Smart Cities has a lot of potential for us and they will create a group (kind-of task force close to the end of the year to accelerate all this and get a complete knowledge on what is going on in each city). Formal communications will follow on all this, but I wanted to keep you aware of the intensive day...:) [cid:image002.gif at 01CF0C63.C844A030] Nuria de Lama Research & Innovation Representative to the European Commission M +34 680645692 T +34 91214 9321 F +34 91754 3252 nuria.delama at atos.net<mailto:nuria.delama at atos.net> Albarracín 25 28037 Madrid Spain www.atosresearch.eu<http://www.atosresearch.eu/> es.atos.net [cid:image003.gif at 01CF0C63.C844A030] IMPORTANT - MAIL ADDRESS CHANGE - From now on, please use only mail address nuria.delama at atos.net<mailto:nuria.delama at atos.net> The former @atosresearch.eu address will be cancelled soon This e-mail and the documents attached are confidential and intended solely for the addressee; it may also be privileged.
