[Fiware] Info & ideas on demos

Dear Ilknur,

Javier is right: I'm the coordinator of the Live Demo (also known as "Smart City Lights") although it seems to be now in a "frozen" state, i.e. no new activity on it (including extension or new developments) has been done recently. Note that this make perfect sense: Smart City Lights was developed time ago (around June 2013) in early days when there wasn't too much usage of FIWARE platform and we needed a comprehensive and sound showcase. However, things have evolved *a lot* since that: FIWARE Lab was launched along with several hackathons and challengues, which have fostered usage and awareness of the platform.

That collective effort has created a community of users around FIWARE Lab and now we have many demos comming from them. For example, have a loook to the "Demos" section in the http://www.fi-ware.org/scewc/ web page (about last week Smart City World Expo in Barcelona last week).

The bottom line is that (in my opinion) probably Smart City Light is no longer needed and it's time to hand over the baton to newer and "fresher" demos comming from real (and not syntetic) usage cases.

We (UPM) have also intensely contributed to the Live Demo we have been using  to demonstrate FIWARE since the very beginning of the FI-WARE project. I think that it does not need further explanation as it is well known by all of us, but let me know if you are new to the project. I can send you some links to YouTube videos showing it. Fermin from Telefónica (in Cc:) leads that demo.

Apart from that, we (UPM) lead a demonstrator focused on the use of the FIWARE Business Framework (WP1.6 - Apps delivery and visualization chapter) to monetize datasets (i.e. to create a data market, which is one objective of the WP) and to manage access rights and terms and conditions. We started to work on it some months ago and we have some results to show (the data portal deployed in FIWARE Lab is an instance of CKAN with this extensions, and we are using this demonstrator in our presentations at the Bootcamps). Juanjo has scheduled this demo as part of one of the specific technical topics to be covered in the next (1st) WPAs confcall devoted to focused topics (November 24th, 10:30-12:30, topic: CKAN extensions: publication of context broker API datasets and integration with Store for management of datasets access rights), so it could be a good opportunity to see this demonstrator. Nevertheless, it is work-in-progress and we plan to extend it with much more functionality.

Sergio García from Telefonica (also Cc'ed) is also leading another demonstrator focused on Smart Cities and the use of Kurento, Wirecloud, and other GEris. We, as owners of Wirecloud, are also participating in that demonstrator. Sergio can give you further details if needed.
