Dear all, On behalf of Rosalía Simón from Telefónica and Ulrich Ahle, CEO of the FIWARE Foundation, let me share with you the following important communication. The Board of Officers of the FIWARE Foundation (Ulrich Ahle, Stefano de Panfilis or myself) will be happy to answer any question you may have. Joint communication from Telefonica and the FIWARE Foundation: Dear members of the FIWARE Community, The Future Internet Public-Private Partnership Programme (FI-PPP) was launched by the EC in 2011 with the mission to accelerate the development and adoption of Smart Applications and Services by means of creating a sustainable innovation-driven ecosystem around the FIWARE open source Platform. In 2016, and with the empowerment of the EC, Atos, Engineering, Orange and Telefonica led the next key step to push FIWARE forward with the creation of the FIWARE Foundation with headquarters in Berlin. The main aim of the Foundation is to ensure the continuity of the technology and bring support to the Community. It will carry out this mission by involving additional industrial partners that will contribute to the support and evolution of the technology, fostering the adoption of the technology among developers and integrators of solutions and stimulating the demand of Powered by FIWARE solutions among end users. In 2017, Telefónica is moving Smart Cities from Innovation to Commercialization. Consequently, as of 28th of February, Telefónica stopped its funded contribution to H2020 projects. This decision is in order to preserve the budget required by the new partners being on boarded. Telefónica will support the transition to the recipient beneficiaries. The FIWARE Foundation will be among this beneficiaries allowing the Foundation to further increase its team and the ability to support the Community. Telefonica will also remain part of the FIWARE Foundation as Founding Member, supporting the growth of an open FIWARE community. As part of this transition, and in consistency with this spirit of openness, we will be invoking elections to the positions held by Telefonica in bodies like the FIWARE TSC so leadership is open to members of the wider FIWARE community. This will be carried out together with a restructuring of chapters in FIWARE, which will be better aligned with the priorities of the FIWARE roadmap. These actions will be coordinated by Juanjo Hierro, in its role of chairman of the TSC and Chief Technology Officer of the FIWARE Foundation.
