Your comments are welcome. We have about 24 hours of time in total (excluding plenary, breaks, etc) -- starting Monday 9am, and concluding Friday 1pm. The pre-allocated slots are: WPL/WPA meeting (tentatively starting 2pm on Monday). I will need to attend this, but the rest of us can use this time to promote the technical agenda. TODO: need to decide what would be the most appropriate topic(s). Please, send me your suggestions. Plenary starting 3:30pm on Wednesday Lunch breaks, mid-session breaks. I suggest the following time allocation for the various topics: Kick-off -- 1 hour Monitoring, including interlock with WP6 (and potentially WP5) -- 2-3 hours Interlock with Dev Tools on scenarios and interface for the developer to develop and deploy cloud applications -- 3 hours Interlock with Testbed team -- 1-2 hours Cloud Edge -- 2 hours Portal -- 2 hours Security (KeyStone, including interlock with WP8 if needed) -- 1-2 hours RM (OpenStack, OCCI, over-commit, etc) -- 3 hours SM (Claudia, elasticity, etc) -- 3 hours Architecture specification -- 3 hours Wrap-up & next steps -- 1-2 hour Attached is an attempt to map them to the actual time slots. We have looked for a reasonably priced and typical spot very near the Spanish Parlament in a quaint area of the town. We need numbers to book the place in advance. As you can guess, it is somewhat complicated to find room for so many people. Those who are going to make it please put your name & company on the following link. If someone really really has a problem with any type of food (for religious matters, allergies or whatever) there is an extra field to state it and we will ensure that he/she finds an acceptable alternative. The deadline to provide this info is Monday, the 23rd at 11am. Those not providing this info on time will have no guarantee of having a place at the table. * Inscription to the Social Event Details (also reflected on https://forge.fi-ware.eu/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/fi-ware-private/index.php/MadridGeneralAssembly#Social_event in the private wiki): Date: January, 25 Time: 9:00 pm Venue: Restaurante Villagodio (http://restaurantevillagodio.com) Price: 30 eur Menu: STARTERS (1 plate of each to share between 4 people) Spanish ham and manchego cheese Red pepper stuffed with calamari and prawns Grilled Mushrooms Lac?n (a type of ham) Torreznos (fried fat, Spanish style, quite nice!) URL: From fla at tid.es Mon Jan 23 02:06:07 2012 From: fla at tid.es (FERNANDO LOPEZ AGUILAR) Date: Mon, 23 Jan 2012 02:06:07 +0100 Subject: [Fiware-cloud] [FIWARE] IaaS SM interfaces Message-ID: Dear all, We have internally carried out an extensive analysis in order to decide what should be the best decisions regarding evolution of the Claudia platform, which is the baseline asset adopted for development of the IaaS Service Management GE in FI-WARE as you know. This email is to share with you a summary of this analysis as well as the derived decisions which we would be willing to implement in the context of FI-WARE, since we believe that they will also benefit the project. 1. We currently think there is some degree of uncertainity regarding final adoption of the future DMTF CIMI standard by the market. This due to the fact that the standard is not yet mature enough, still there are not so many committed endorsement by a significant number of Cloud providers and we are working in a fast-moving market. 2. The OpenStack initiative is progressively gaining momentum and may lead to definition of a "de facto" standard in the market 3. Based on the above, a safe strategy may consist in that the IaaS Service Management component in FI-WARE implements the OpenStack API for the first release of FI-WARE. We believe this will ease a wider adoption and a greater visibility of FI-WARE results in the short term. 4. Parallel to that, we will monitor progress of the DMTF CIMI standardization process and will keep being active there. However, Implementation of a CIMI-compliant API in FI-WARE will be postponed to future releases of FI-WARE (second or third). Implementation of that API would, of course, be subject to momentum gained by the CIMI standard, definitively discarded if the standard doesn't take off. 5. The OpenStack API provides a very basic set of functionalities. It doesn't integrate aspects regarding support to elasticity management, for example, which will be one of the key differential functions to be supported by the IaaS Service Management component in FI-WARE. Therefore, work within the first release of FI-WARE will comprise definition of an API that is complementary to that one from OpenStack, based on the one currently supported by Claudia, which deals with this added-value functions. 6. We intend to deliver the definition of the complementary API described in 5. to the OpenStack community. We believe this will definitively enhance the visibility of FI-WARE results, while at the same time protect the investments made in FI-WARE. 7. We believe that the IaaS Service Management GE in FI-WARE has to be designed as to be able to rely on different products, at the Resource Management layer, implementing different interfaces. This will ease legacy integration or federation with other Cloud Resource Management technologies. Thus, besides support to integration with OCCI-compliant Resource Management products, we intend to demostrate the support of integration with other products, in particular Joyent. We have double-checked with Juanjo Hierro whether these decisions could fit well within FI-WARE's overall strategy and he agrees they fit rather well. Of course, we are happy to elaborate on this in much more detail during our F2F meeting this week. I think it highly contributed to the success of the meetings. Regarding your question, I am all in favor of having a face-to-face meeting -- but based on the input received from Juanjo, we don't need to have an integrated demo before July-August time frame. Also, it is still not clear when the next official review will be, and what will be the emphasis (i.e., whether it will include a demo). On the other hand, we do have several important deliverables due by the end of April, as you know, so it would definitely make sense to meet towards the deadline. It was discussed during the last WPLs meeting that it is likely that we will have a General Assembly meeting in mid April. Let's see if it materializes -- if not, we may consider having a WP4-only meeting. Your Chapter may start the work here but needs to be uploaded to the overall private wiki (the 1st link in this mail). 2. The overall private Wiki can be accessed by all project partners and it is the official anchor for each chapter contribution (in other words, make sure the content is synchronized with the chapter private wiki by the time we deliver the content). 3. Some chapter may decide to start and complete the deliverable (in this case D2.3) directly in the project private Wiki. That's ok. It's up to each chapter to decide this. 4. All WPl have the rights to copy the content from the chapter private Wiki to the fi-ware private Wiki. Should you have doubts, let me know.
