Dear GEI Owners,
Let me share with you the backlog reviews. Please, get them from the links at the end.
Current reports have been expanded to point out the action to be taken to overcome the issue: example below
[cid:image001.png at 01CF37B9.FE163760]
I hope you find it helpful.
There's been an adjustment to the rule caring for the synchronization of items' presence in the different sources: Roadmap, Tracker and Materializing.
- Short term items (Stories, Work items and Bugs) aren't public => Only present in Tracker
- Long term (Epics) and mid-term (Features) items are public depending on their status:
o Dismissed items aren't public => Only present in Tracker
o Closed items are present in Roadmap, Tracker and Materializing
o Other status (Open, Scheduled, etc) are present in Roadmap and Tracker but NOT in Materializing.
Then, if you have epics and features defined that cannot be finished or haven't started yet they can live on the Roadmap under 'Future Releases', being its status Open in the tracker.
This adjustment may cause some trouble to you if you had already matched Roadmap, Tracker and Materializing, with items you're working on. Be aware than when you close those items they'll match again and the issues will disappear.
I'll try to bring the last criteria missing, which is about the open descriptions next week.
I'm also missing a tab with all items, which I'll try to provide next week as well.
Please, be aware this is the last sprint and release, whose backlog will be reported to the EC. The report will include information about the number of issues existing. Therefore, I need to ask for your cooperation to overcome as many issues as possible.
If you needed any support, please, let me know. I can help by email, chat (skype:ManuelEscriche) or hold a phone call.

Dear Manuel,
I want to point out one issue which appears by managing the rules as you proposed in your mail below, please find my text in red below.
Moreover, you commented in the doodle page that the '&' removal is nothing more than a 5 second action unless we do something wrong: I completely disagree, because as I explained you several times, for the I2ND team at least, this implies not only modifying a wiki page title (which really costs 5 seconds time), but also updating *all* the other pages and documents (e.g. the catalogue) which link that modified page. It is absolutely not as simple as you said, and I thought that a change of filtering actions would be easier to implement. Can you explain why is including '&' as permitted char so difficult?

o Dismissed items aren't public => Only present in Tracker
o Closed items are present in Roadmap, Tracker and Materializing
o Other status (Open, Scheduled, etc) are present in Roadmap and Tracker but NOT in Materializing.
[PG]: I believe this rule is not to be applied (and I believe it should be at least discussed during a WPL/WPA call before deciding to apply it): Materialising page, since the beginning of FI-WARE in my view represents *what* will be done, while the Technical Roadmap represents *when* this will be done. Therefore, for me the Materialising page must always contain all the items (I refer to Features particularly), at least those open and/or scheduled (for dismissed ones I agree they are present in Tracker only). By introducing this rule, I don't see real advantages, but lot of disadvantages as we need modifying again stable pages. Moreover, where should we keep the removed Feature pages? We would need a further place to 'store' all the links removed (so additional burden...) from the materialising page, otherwise we would leave pages and pages not linked anywhere within the wiki.
Then, if you have epics and features defined that cannot be finished or haven't started yet they can live on the Roadmap under 'Future Releases', being its status Open in the tracker.

Dear Pier,
Let me comment it step by step:
[PG]: I believe this rule is not to be applied (and I believe it should be at least discussed during a WPL/WPA call before deciding to apply it): Materialising page, since the beginning of FI-WARE in my view represents *what* will be done,
[MEV] OK -> this is the purpose
while the Technical Roadmap represents *when* this will be done.
[MEV] OK -> this is the purpose
Therefore, for me the Materialising page must always contain all the items (I refer to Features particularly),
[MEV] OK -> it just points out ALL ITEMS FINISHED AND AVAILABLE IN THE GEIs
at least those open and/or scheduled (for dismissed ones I agree they are present in Tracker only).
[MEV] The advantage is to allow items defined in the roadmap and that will not be implement to exist as well. We cannot include them in materializing since that would lead to think they are available on the GEI's when they are NOT.
I'd like to understand what you mean by where should we keep the removed Feature Pages - they are reachable first from the roadmap, and if finished from materializing as well.
Kind regards,
Manuel

[PG]: I believe this rule is not to be applied (and I believe it should be at least discussed during a WPL/WPA call before deciding to apply it): Materialising page, since the beginning of FI-WARE in my view represents *what* will be done,
[MEV] OK -> this is the purpose
[PG]: I would point out the tense I used: *what will be done* (not *what already done*). This implies that the Materialising page contains all Features that are or will be implemented, even in the future. This is what we did since the beginning of the project.
while the Technical Roadmap represents *when* this will be done.
[MEV] OK -> this is the purpose
[PG]: of course OK
Therefore, for me the Materialising page must always contain all the items (I refer to Features particularly),
[MEV] OK -> it just points out ALL ITEMS FINISHED AND AVAILABLE IN THE GEIs
[PG]: See my first comment above.
at least those open and/or scheduled (for dismissed ones I agree they are present in Tracker only).
[PG]: This assumption in my view reverts the way we have usually worked so far: as said in my first comment above, at least in I2ND chapter we described first the Features and placed them in the Materialising page, then we populated the Roadmap page according to the development plans. Hence the Materialising always contained the list of *all* Features of a GE, independent of when they have been of will be implemented.
Are the other chapters working differently?
Kind regards,
Manuel

Dear GEI Owners,
Let me share with you the backlog reviews. Please, get them from the links at the end.
Current reports have been expanded to point out the action to be taken to overcome the issue: example below
[cid:image001.png at 01CF3852.2D288E20]

Hi Manuel,
and thanks for the summary, it is helpful.
Before I'll do any changes I'd like to confirm following:
1)
Feature : FIWARE.Release.3.2 - FIWARE.Sprint.3.2.1 (<-- remove sprint)
Does this mean that I need remove sprint information from all the work
items in the tracker which has this comment? I understood previously
that ew were specifically required to put sprint information to the
tracker items so that they were able to be tracked
2)
FIWARE.Feature.MiWi.GISDataProvider.XML3dObjects (<-- provide reference
in materializing;)
There's multiple comments to "provide reference in materializing;" What
this does in practise? There is wiki url link in each work item which
has this comment. eg. XML3dObjects has link
"http://forge.fi-ware.eu/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/fiware/index.php/FIWARE.Feature.MiWi.GISDataProvider.XML3dObjects".
so I'm not sure what fix is needed?

Let me emphasize and the core issue:
As we're approaching the end of the project we're facing limit conditions not considered before; so in my opinion there's need to adapt the scheme a bit.
As I said, if we leave it that way, the materializing page is holding features or epics NOT implemented and NOT available in the GEIs - which in my opinion is misleading. In the roadmap you can insert a heading for "Future Releases" and include them.
Regarding synchronization of sources: Roadmap, Tracker and Materializing doesn't require changes for those backlog items that will be closed and finished, only temporary existence and tolerance of them that will disappear when those items are effectively closed.
Kind regards,
Manuel

Hi Manuel,
and thanks for the summary, it is helpful.
Before I'll do any changes I'd like to confirm following:
1)
Feature : FIWARE.Release.3.2 - FIWARE.Sprint.3.2.1 (<-- remove sprint)
Does this mean that I need remove sprint information from all the work items in the tracker which has this comment? I understood previously that ew were specifically required to put sprint information to the tracker items so that they were able to be tracked
2)
FIWARE.Feature.MiWi.GISDataProvider.XML3dObjects (<-- provide reference in materializing;)
There's multiple comments to "provide reference in materializing;" What this does in practise? There is wiki url link in each work item which has this comment. eg. XML3dObjects has link "http://forge.fi-ware.eu/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/fiware/index.php/FIWARE.Feature.MiWi.GISDataProvider.XML3dObjects". so I'm not sure what fix is needed?

Hi all
Just one comment regarding materializing the Vision : at the beginning before we have the roadmap we put everything in this place but after the first version of the roadmap we deliver what will be done in the roadmap and transfer new items in the Materializing section while we update the UTP, IAG and UPG on the public wiki. This is when we synchronize Tech Roadmap with The Materializing the Vision and we have to update the roadmap with the new features for next releases.

Dear Pier,
Let me comment it step by step:
[PG]: I believe this rule is not to be applied (and I believe it should be at least discussed during a WPL/WPA call before deciding to apply it): Materialising page, since the beginning of FI-WARE in my view represents *what* will be done,
[MEV] OK -> this is the purpose

[cid:image001.png at 01CF3859.078F2460]

Dear GEI Owners:
In order to help this part:
"Regarding synchronization of sources: Roadmap, Tracker and Materializing doesn't require changes for those backlog items that will be closed and finished, only temporary existence and tolerance of them that will disappear when those items are effectively closed."
I've inserted a different message on those items so that they can be easily identified, and action not taken on them:
(<-- Reference in materializing will be fine when the item is closed)

Let me emphasize and the core issue:
As we're approaching the end of the project we're facing limit conditions not considered before; so in my opinion there's need to adapt the scheme a bit.
As I said, if we leave it that way, the materializing page is holding features or epics NOT implemented and NOT available in the GEIs - which in my opinion is misleading. In the roadmap you can insert a heading for "Future Releases" and include them.
Kind regards,
Manuel

Message-ID: <65CDBE2E7E5A964BB8BC5F4328FDE90BB31B70AF@EX10-MB2-MAD.hi.inet>
Dear GE Owners,
I??ve just finished to implement the last criteria missing in the backlogs reviews: C7 ?C It cares about the open descriptions of backlog items provided in the wiki.
The main realization is the great variability of our descriptions (#words): Min = 0; Max = 560; Mean = 73.4; Std Dev(??) = 51.4
[cid:image001.png at 01CF43AB.11EF2E70]
In order to overcome this situation I??ve defined a frame to reduce this variability, which encourages descriptions in the frame 60-250 words.
Obviously actual quality of descriptions can only come from you by providing meaningful and informative paragraphs.
The inferior limit of the frame for the description window is implemented as follows:
?? Goal field (>= 10 words)
?? Description field (>= 30 words)
?? Rationale field (>= 20 words)
I hope you find it sensible!!
Current reports also provide views for each individual GEI??s distribution, a good example shown below:

Hi Manuel,
The change in upper/lower limits in the number of words you??ve proposed has this immediate effects:
?? Apps chapter: 272 rules violations
?? Cloud chapter: 197 rules violations
?? IoT chapter: 181 rules violations
?? Data chapter: 282 rules violations
?? I2ND chapter: 192 rules violations
?? Security chapter: 196 rules violations
?? MiWi chapter: 252 rules violations
Huge numbers indeed??.
I??ve got the data from your reports. The rules you propose are:
==> Goal field (>= 10 words)
==> Description field (>= 30 words)
==> Rationale field (>= 20 words)
==> Overall fields (<= 250 words)
I??ve seen you??ve done lot of statistics.
I??m sure that the number of rules violation, and the overall editing work to do, can be drastically reduced by changing a little the numbers above.
For instance, when setting Description field (>= 20 words), instead of 30, the number of rules violations significantly decreases.
And having 20 words instead of 30 does not really affect the value of the description.
The same may apply to Rationale field (>= 15 words), instead of 20 words.
Considering you are doing lot of statistics, don??t you think it would better to analyse the effect of changing a little these numbers to minimize the total numbers of rules violations?
In this way we??ll have a meaningful common rule that also will help anyone to make these changes as quick as possible.
Gianmario

Hi Gianmario,
I haven??t counted how many words we have to add.
The purpose is to increase quality. I believe it??s worth doing it!
I think Quality should be important for us!!
I already informed you yesterday on my flexibility to adapt the scheme to increase quality and the procedure to follow!!
The scheme may also consider differences between Epics and Features. Epics normally have wider scope, and include several features ?C so somehow better or wider descriptions could be provided. We could also easy navigation among related items: for example, epics could include links to their features, and features include links to it epic parent.
Kind regards,
Manuel

Hi Manuel,
The change in upper/lower limits in the number of words you??ve proposed has this immediate effects:
?? Apps chapter: 272 rules violations
?? Cloud chapter: 197 rules violations
?? IoT chapter: 181 rules violations
?? Data chapter: 282 rules violations
?? I2ND chapter: 192 rules violations
?? Security chapter: 196 rules violations
?? MiWi chapter: 252 rules violations
Huge numbers indeed??.
I??ve got the data from your reports. The rules you propose are:
==> Goal field (>= 10 words)
==> Description field (>= 30 words)
==> Rationale field (>= 20 words)
==> Overall fields (<= 250 words)
Gianmario

Dear GE Owners,
I??ve just finished to implement the last criteria missing in the backlogs reviews: C7 ?C It cares about the open descriptions of backlog items provided in the wiki.
The main realization is the great variability of our descriptions (#words): Min = 0; Max = 560; Mean = 73.4; Std Dev(??) = 51.4
[cid:image001.png at 01CF444A.BAFC7690]
In order to overcome this situation I??ve defined a frame to reduce this variability, which encourages descriptions in the frame 60-250 words.
Obviously actual quality of descriptions can only come from you by providing meaningful and informative paragraphs.
The inferior limit of the frame for the description window is implemented as follows:
==> Goal field (>= 10 words)
==> Description field (>= 30 words)
==> Rationale field (>= 20 words)
I hope you find it sensible!!
Current reports also provide views for each individual GEI??s distribution, a good example shown below:

Hi Manual,
I haven??t counted how many words we have to add, too.
I??ve just used the numbers from your reports.
Counting the Number of ??Rules Violations?? tells how many editing we have to do.
Trying to reduce those editing make simply possible to do them in time (we have 10 days).
I repeat, these are the editing (sections of texts to edit, not words, to match rules) required in the wiki pages:
* Apps chapter: 272
* Cloud chapter: 197
* IoT chapter: 181
* Data chapter: 282
* I2ND chapter: 192
* Security chapter: 196
* MiWi chapter: 252
Total: 1572 editing actions required in the FIWARE Forge wiki.
Being able to practically make all these editing (we have 10 days, don??t we?) means quality, believe me.
I would ask you to use statistics to find a better set of meaningful rules, because I??m sure the number of editing actions can be reduced, for instance in this way:
==> Goal field (>= 10 words)
==> Description field (>= 20 words)
==> Rationale field (>= 15 words)
==> Overall fields (<= 250 words)
Please, the statistic in your reports to do this analysis, in a way that prove to be really useful to make these changes.
We want to be able to apply these editing in such a short time.
We strive for quality.

Dear Partners,
Let me thank you again for your contributions!!
I've seen more GEIs getting the position to cleanly close the release and sprint by the end of the month!!

There're two new tabs for WP Leaders: General and Unclassified:
General gives visibility to items identified as such - this way WP Leaders can fix their issues.
Unclassified gives visibility of items that could NOT be mapped to any of the declared GEIs. Many of them correspond to items collected from the roadmap and materializing with mismatching on the GE-GEI keyword.
When possible it would be important to channel them to their right GEI so that the corresponding GEI owner can fix related issues.
Kind regards,
Manuel

Dear Partners,
Thanks for your contributions!!
Let me remind you that a simpler version of the reviews, holding mainly statistics, will join the dashboards when delivering the backlog report. It will likely be next week when we'll have finished Release 3.3
Therefore, I'd appreciate your contributions and effort to overcome remaining issues.

Dear Partners,
Thanks for effort and contributions!!!
Current status: I2ND leads, closely followed by CLOUD, but MIWI has similar amount to I2ND. By analysing DATA, it 's easy to see they can quickly jump ahead.
I'll send as a personal present a bottle of excellent wine to the chapter cleaning up their backlog first!!!
