I invite you all (and mainly the Task Coords) to read the mail below from Juanjo, then carefully read the guidelines at the end of page https://forge.fi-ware.eu/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/fi-ware-private/index.php/FiwareDeliverableD2.4 According to those guidelines, I have already customized the I2ND page at link https://forge.fi-ware.eu/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/fi-ware-private/index.php/FiwareDeliverableD2.4I2ND by inserting: - first of all the general sentences for making the description uniform with the remaining chapters, and - later the contributions received so far for the different GEs Please check carefully our page doing the following (and any other action necessary to improve it): - Review the page, refine the contents and provide the necessary inputs which still are not present, in particular: o Inputs for CDI (I'm afraid the roadmap circulate by mail was dealing with platform selection but still didn't contain the information about the Features that will be in the different releases: I believe this information is already present in the oneNote pages, it's just a matter of extracting it and putting in this list) o Revision of inputs for CE and insertion of Section 4 Future releases o Revision of inputs for NetIC and S3C and insertion of Section 4 Deadline for this page completion is Thursday 8th, so there is some more time than for the Architecture pages, but please complete it asap to avoid late minute change requests... You can find the placeholders for your contributions as well as the guidelines to follow at: https://forge.fi-ware.eu/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/fi-ware-private/index.php/FiwareDeliverableD2.4 Given the fact that this template arrived late, and as already announced to our PO, we should plan to have this deliverable ready for submission by Thursday March 8th, next week. So you have one week to develop what will not be longer than two pages. Remember: it's not about producing a long text, but be able to distil a good piece of text. I hope that you will find the guidelines quite clear and unambiguous. Nevertheless, don't hesitate to formulate any question. I also guess that you would agree that, while the text we are going to produce here doesn't need to be long, it may be highly relevant because we are trying to fix there WHAT WE COMMIT TO DELIVER WHEN. Therefore, I would like to make a couple of remarks: * Please try to commit for the first release what we believe is strictly a MUST, that is, things we believe that, if not brought, FI-WARE will be useless to the UC projects (or, at least, they will blame of us :-) Note that we didn't specify what we were going to bring in the first release within the current signed DoW. Therefore, nobody will be able to make the point that we are not fulfilling the DoW if we do not deliver this or that. HOWEVER, we will JUDGED with respect to whatever we commit to deliver now: if we promise to deliver something in the first release now and then we fail to deliver it, then the reviewers will have the right to say we failed and reject acceptance of, among others, the FI-WARE Testbed deliverable. * It's not a matter of committing to deliver what we believe we can develop and have ready for integration by end of April based on selected baseline assets. Don't underestimate the integration efforts on the testbed. Also don't underestimate integration coordination efforts: just following up that a given GE is properly installed and configured in the Testbed will take its time not only to leaders of tasks in WP10, but also to you as chapters leads and myself ... so, why should we spent time in something that nobody would consider urgent/must ? It's better that we rather concentrate on integrating the less things possible for the first release and leave integration of things that can wait for later. We should just focus on what can be a STABLE integrated FI-WARE Release and then make it grow, adding new GEs or features in already integrated GEs. * Despite we talk just about Major Releases in the FI-WARE DoW or in the Technical Roadmap Deliverable, we should plan to be able to upgrade the testbed at our convenience every three months, so that new GE software or upgrades on existing GEs arrives end of July 2012, October 2012, January 2013, Abril 2013, July 2013, ... and then new releases of the testbed are published by end of October 2012, January 2013, Abril 2013, July 2013, October 2013 respectively (we typically book three months for integration testing in the testbed). So don't hesitate to defer things for the first or the second minor release within the second major release of FI-WARE in your planning. * I propose the following to handle what is planned in the different minor releases of the second major release. We will publish the Technical Roadmap deliverable just making the distinction on what goes in the first Major Release and what goes in the second Major Release of FI-WARE. And please be conservative promising things for the First Major Release. Then, what we will do is ask the UC projects: Is there anything planned for the Second Major Release you wish to have prioritized ? Then, based on their feedback, we will prioritize the features they highlight and will try to deliver then a little bit in advance, planning them in the first minor releases of the second major release (e.g., to get it ready in the FI-WARE Testbed either by end of October 2012 or end of January 2013). Doing so, we are showing we care about their priorities and show some flexibility. Of course, when checking the contents, verify the actions points and take the necessary measures to timely complete them. Concerning some of them: -I modified the CDI architecture page on the wiki according to the decisions taken in the CDI session - I also modified the Roadmap page - I remind you all that today the roadmap should be complete, and there are still parts (especially for second and future releases to be provided) - Finally, we found some misbehavior in the roadmap page, which duplicated (again!) the text. I have just removed the duplicated sections, but please be careful when doing modifications: I believe this is due to concurrent editing, so when doing this please edit the smallest section of your interest instead of the entire page, to minimize the collision probabilities. Sorry for the short delay (it was due for yesterday). This corresponds to what we discussed with Dino last Wednesday, except the point regarding Osgi monitoring (for which it was also mentioned tr 069 in the discussion), point for which we need more discussion. I do not think it is a problem as far as it concerns the "second release" for which further updates to the technical roadmap are still possible. Do you want me to update the wiki with this document or do you prefer to make a global update for the whole WP ? I shall provide minutes for task 7.2 session in the next days. One specific message Juanjo gave us is that we are not currently urged to provide as much contributions as possible for the first FI-WARE release, while we are asked to provide what is a) really achievable, b) really able to be integrated in the testbed by the time the first release is exposed to UCPs, and c) absolutely expected by UCPs. On the other hand, this doesn't create specific concerns about outcomes not achieved from project management perspective, as the features are not explicitly specified in the DoW. We agreed therefore the following: - Architecture deliverable: our pages are n good shape, and the contents will be moved to the public page. One specific note will be put in the introduction to the single GE architectures, saying that this is a Very preliminary architecture of such GEs, which is subject to further refinements later (especially for NEtIC, S3C). This will be done by me today - Technical Roadmap: we have been suggested to relax a little bit the time of delivery of features for most of the GEs, again to avoid the risk of not being able to provide in time the features, and also to avoid too much inputs to the integration phase in a single step. This is considering also that the integration would not take place in the first testbed release, as the connection with PanLab is expected to be established later. The agreement we defined is therefore in the next three points: A) remove most (if not all) the features expected for first release of NetIC and S3C, moving them to second release. It is up to the Task Coords to decide whether the current second relase features remain there, or are moved to 'further relases' section. B) Remove the first release features for CDI too, since we are going to change the underlying platform in second release, moving them to second release. We might be able however to provide some of those features later in the year, upon e.g. specific request by the UCPs C) Keep as it is the CE technical roadmap, as it looks already well balanced for the first release D) All of this takes into account that there is no weak situation for the chapter even though the roadmap doesn't provide inputs for specific GEs I kindly ask all, under coordination of Task Leaders, to provide a feedback on the above points and, if agreed, to proceed in the modifications for the technical roadmap, so that they are complete by the end of Monday 12th. Many thanks and have a nice week-end! Pier -----Messaggio originale----- Da: Juanjo Hierro [mailto:jhierro at tid.es] Inviato: venerd? 9 marzo 2012 08:53 A: Garino Pierangelo Cc: Hans.Einsiedler at telekom.de; jhierro >> "Juan J. Hierro" Oggetto: IMPORTANT: Approach regarding I2ND Hi Pier, Despite I haven't interacted with you on the matter ... I have been reviewing the contents of the I2ND chapter contribution to both the Architecture Description and the Technical Roadmap deliverables ... In general, your contributions are in a good shape (as used to be the case, BTW :-) but what I would like to discuss with you is a more fundamental question. My major concern is what we should commit for the first Release of FI-WARE. I'm rather reluctant to commit anything regarding NetIC and S3C for the first release. I believe this deserves a more careful planning. I would go first for consolidating a stable version of the Dedicated FI-WARE DataCenter in Sevilla with most relevant GEs coming from the Cloud, Data, IoT, Apps and Security chapters. Then plan how this could connect with some of the experimental facilities where we may have a setup of the NetIC and S3C GEs. Also think carefully what switching equipments can be acquired, for the planned second phase of acquisition of equipments for the FI-WARE DataCenter, and integrated in the infrastructure of the FI-WARE DataCenter that may help to test NetIC and S3C GEs. There is nothing in the DoW that obligues us to deliver anything regarding any chapter on the first Release. Therefore, it is up to us to decide. And not put artificial pressure on our shoulders ourselves. IMHO, FI-WARE capabilities brought by means of adding NetIC and S3C GEs are fine if they are available for the second release of FI-WARE, even for the third. Regarding the CDI, I feel more or less the same. In this case because it is better to commit bringing something complete that just a few features ... but I'm more open here. Regarding the Cloud Edge/proxy component, I feel like this is a better candidate for the first release, but I wouldn't dismiss to declare we are going to plan an updgrade of the FI-WARE Tesbed by Q42012 and commit it there. All the contents of the Architecture Description deliverable may be published now but with a note on those we would label as preliminary, since they won't go on the first release, and should be considered therefore by the reader as still work in progress. Note that all the above is not because I'm not confident that the I2ND chapter could deliver things on time and with the expected quality. It's more about not delivering things earlier than is needed and be able to focus in less number of GEs while consolidating a first release of FI-WARE and the FI-WARE testbed. Please note that, the more GEs we commit for the first Release, the more complex will be managing the integration of FI-WARE and delivery of a working FI-WARE Testbed environment. So better we keep numbers manageable. If the FI-WARE Testbed becomes a disaster, and unstable piece, because there were many things to digest, then it will be a problem for all of us involved, no matter if a particular chapter has done things well. So people dealing with coordination of the integration activities (not only owners of some tasks in the Testbed WP but coordinators of each chapter) should concentrate in a "piece of cake they can digest". Let's discuss this in our bilateral follow up confcall today ... I wanted to send you this mail early this morning so that you can think a bit about the above, its pros and cons, so we can have a more fruitful discussion later in the follow-up confcall Cheers, -- Juanjo ------------- Product Development and Innovation (PDI) - Telefonica Digital website: www.tid.es email: jhierro at tid.es twitter: twitter.com/JuanjoHierro FI-WARE (European Future Internet Core Platform) Chief Architect You can follow FI-WARE at: website: http://www.fi-ware.eu facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/FI-WARE/251366491587242 twitter: http://twitter.com/FIware linkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/groups/FIWARE-4239932 Este mensaje se dirige exclusivamente a su destinatario. We therefore need to provide sufficient information about our GEs and the way we envision they could generate business opportunities. The contribution is split in two parts, The first concerns the GEs, while the second concerns the single partner plans for the specific GEs they are involved in I2ND. I propose to progress in the following way: 1a) Part concerning the GEs (sections starting with 'Business description ' in the wiki page, see link in mail below): the Task Coord of each Task/GE will provide inputs to the respective sections. 1b) Afterwards, all other partners will refine whenever necessary that contribution. 2) Part concerning single partner plans for I2ND GEs (inside Section 'Partners involved'): completion is assigned to each individual partner in the WP. The original mail from Atos below (maybe some of you already received it from the exploitation list) explains better what is requested for each of the two items mentioned. Since the overall deadline for contribution is end of March, we need to start working on this right now. I suggest we adopt the following workplan: 1a) Task Coords to complete by Mon 26. 1b) All other partners active in the GE to refine by Fri 30. 2) All Partners to complete by Tue 27. NB: since the wiki belongs to Forge project 'exploitation', to get access to it you have to ask for registration to the admins of that project private (of course if you are not yet registered there). if you don't remember how to do this, please read the contents of public wiki page https://forge.fi-ware.eu/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/fiware/index.php/How_to_join_a_FI-WARE_project_in_FusionForge Thanks and BR Pier Da: fiware-exploitation-bounces at lists.fi-ware.eu [mailto:fiware-exploitation-bounces at lists.fi-ware.eu] Per conto di Juan Bare?o Guerenabarrena Inviato: marted? 13 marzo 2012 19:46 A: fiware-wpl at lists.fi-ware.eu; fiware-exploitation at lists.fi-ware.eu Oggetto: [Fiware-exploitation] GE?s Business Description Dear All For the WP11 purposes (WP11.2.1 Deliverable - Exploitation Strategy, Sustainability and IPR Management), and according to the plan we agreed in the exploitation meeting at our last f2f meeting in Madrid, we need your contribution as WPLs, experts on each domain and as a members of the WP11, to review what Atos prepared for each G E in terms of business description to attract the business departments, the public at large and the technical departments with no advanced expertise and to position FI WARE in the market according to each GE?s market potential and time to market We have filled in some of the cells with the information we had, but we need your revision and support. It would be very useful if you could show some applicability examples https://forge.fi-ware.eu/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/exploitation/index.php/Main_Page After the Generic Enabler tables you can find a section for every partner who is participating in this chapter. In this section every partner should explain their plans with regard to this chapter exploitation. Please check the instructions below and complete each GE template and your exploitation plans before end of this month Thanks for your collaboration and for any doubt not hesitate to contact us Br Juan How to fill in the wiki? Every G.E. has a specific table in the Exploitation wiki media as can be seen below: [cid:image001.jpg at 01CD0835.E1CB0500] * Description and added value: In this cell we have added simple information about the G.E., please feel free to change the description and to add information, the objective is to provide the reader with a clear and simple vision about the G.E. Added value: In this subsection we want to answer the following questions: * What is the main advantage you are promising your customer through this result/solution? * What kind of beneficial impact will your solutions have on the target customers business? * What are the main problems, needs and expectations perceived by the customers? Mainly, we have obtained this information of the section Critical product attributes, probably you could extend it and identify more problems. It would be really useful if you could provide some examples of applicability of the solutions. * Main Competitors Please identify the main competitors of the G.E, if any. You should indicate the name of the competitor and the competitor's product. Some companies are named, please feel free to delete the companies you think are not correct and add new ones. * Target Market We should answer the question: What FI-WARE roles are going to use the G.E. ? Some examples: FI-WARE GE Provider FI-WARE Instance Provider FI-WARE Application/Service Provider * Market Potential The information for this section has been obtained from: * The Tracker: we have filtered the column "FI-WARE Generic Enablers " and we have obtained the user cases that have applied information about the G.E. * The TestBed section: "Testbed_Fact_Finding_Investigation" * Sectors: What sectors are most likely to use the G.E. ? We have tried to answer these questions but your review is required. * Potential business models What commercialization methods are more commonly used with this kind of G.E. or what kind of commercialization methods are you thinking of using? For example: * Fixed term yearly * Fixed term monthly * Subscription plus pay per use * Pay per use only(hourly) * Pay per use only(monthly) * Delivery Description G.E. delivery: how is the G.E. going to be available for use, e.g.: * Web page * As a service * An API * Time to market We have used the information available on the "Testbed_Fact_Finding_Investigation" testbed version 1 (M15) testbed version 2 (M27) testbed version 3 (M36) You need to check this information. * IPR situation The information for this section has been extracted from the Materializing the FI-WARE Vision. Further information should be provided here, especially if you are planning to use this G.E. together with other FIWARE G.E. with incompatible license. * Standardization issues Please provide us with this G.E. standardization plan * Legal barriers Have you found any national or international legal barrier for the correct deployment of the G.E? Do you think that some rules should be changed in order to promote the adoption of the G.E.? * Individual Chapter Exploitation Plan After the Generic Enabler tables you can find a section for every partner who is participating in this chapter. In this section every partner should explain their plans with regard to this chapter exploitation. * What are your plans about the G.E.?. * Are you planning to introduce the G.E. into your portfolio? * Are you introducing the G.E. in any developer community? E.g. Bluevia, etc. * What role are you going to play with regard to the G.E? Will you be an integrator? Or Will you be a consultant? ------------------------------------------------------------------ This e-mail and the documents attached are confidential and intended solely for the addressee; it may also be privileged. Here are some comments about other topics but indeed Orange don't intend to contribute on those topics J ? https://forge.fi-ware.eu/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=278&group_id=7&atid=163 I think here what is requested is some kind of queue to access resources with internal exclusion mechanisms. An example is for example a phone modem as a resource, it might be used by several applications at the same time, and the requested mechanism should send queries that are not mutually exclusive and make other waiting. A use case example is that is a first application/services tries to call a phone number, this "calling a phone number" and related queries such as "terminate call" should now be forbidden to other application/services by a semaphore. ? I think this one is interesting as it introduce the notion of a virtual network and terminal that hides the underlying network and terminal: https://forge.fi-ware.eu/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=353&group_id=7&atid=163 ? Such requirements for extraordinary connectivity from OutSmart and other could be solved easily by a publish/notify mechanism for alarm information: https://forge.fi-ware.eu/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=970&group_id=7&atid=163 ? I think that lot of requirements are about QoS, so to minimize impact I think it would be smart to think about a simple QoS mechanism with publish/subscribe mechanisms such as: Application subscribe to QoS "n" to S3C, S3C search for networks that have QoS "n". Later the network is not able to satisfy the QoS so it signals it to S3C. Then S3C signal this to the application. S3C is an indirect level that simplify the subscription mechanism as it offers only one point to subscribe to this kind of events. ? There are also a lot of requirements about easy connectivity. Probably here we could use the same approach to introduce an indirect mechanism: For example an application on a terminal could make a generic query to a terminal middleware and that middleware could abstract the connection and establishment of an IP layer on the terminal.
