Dear All,

Thanks for your contributions, we have completed the I2ND white paper - see attachment.

I have merged our contribution to the overall FI-WARE white paper, and have uploaded it to the docman system of the FI-WARE private project (https://forge.fi-ware.eu/docman/?group_id=27). You can find it via this path: /FI-WARE Product Vision/FI-WARE Product Vision Revision M18/I2ND Contribution

@Pier: I was not sure if I should upload our contribution in a separate file, or if I was expected to merge it to the overall FI-WARE white paper and upload it. So I did both!

Best Regards,
Mohamed Salem

Dear All,

Thanks for your contributions. I have merged your contributions (from different document versions) and fixed some typos and grammatical errors and admitted all changes.

@Pier: I have incorporated the changes that you have noted. I did not fully understand what you meant by your comment on S3C, though I have re-formulated that part; maybe it sounds better now. If it doesn't deliver the intended information, please re-explain your comment and I will modify it accordingly. I will upload the contents to the Product Vision Wiki page as soon as we have a stable version (we're almost there).

Two comments are still pending, one to be approved by Pier and the other to be approved by Andrea or Frank.

In order for us not to lose any information updated in the document, I urge you to do your modifications, if any, on the latest version of the document by responding to the very last email.

Best Regards,
Mohamed Salem

Pier,

Here is an update to the document addressing the points below:

- Andrea can you check the first comment inside CDI's description?

I think this is really best addressed by Frank as it concerns the Mobility Manager - a Fraunhofer component. I've proposed a description, but I would like Frank to review. Frank is now on the To list.

- Chris (or Brian) and you manage the second comment, still inside CDI description?

- For both: I believe with the two points above we should provide the missing part on CDI required by Mohamed (highlighted sentence at end of CDI description), do you agree or can you further improve the description?

Addressed. I've composed a paragraph to address these points.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Mohamed,

Thanks a lot for your valuable work: as promised here is an update of the document I have prepared today, you'll see some minor changes, some addition, a major move of some text and the figure (I believe it is meaningful at the beginning of that section only, check if it's ok for you).

I have also inserted three comments which should be addressed by specific people:

- Andrea can you check the first comment inside CDI's description?

- Chris (or Brian) and you manage the second comment, still inside CDI description?

- For both: I believe with the two points above we should provide the missing part on CDI required by Mohamed (highlighted sentence at end of CDI description), do you agree or can you further improve the description?

- Mohamed: can you (or other guys of S3C) provide an answer and/or update to my comment concerning S3C?

- Still Mohamed, the most important point: can you upload the contents of the document in the Product Vision page at http://forge.fi-ware.eu/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/fiware/index.php/Interface_to_Networks_and_Devices_%28I2ND%29 ? When done this will become the new Product Vision, as well as the contribution to the 'white paper' deliverable...

Thanks and BR
Pier

HI Mohamed, Pier and all,

I'm ok with the text, as far as NetiC is affected.

One comment to the 1st sentence of the conclusions:
"Limitations of today's functionalities of the interfaces to networks and devices are ought to be overcome, where there is skepticism regarding their realizable potential.

The Interface to Networks and Devices (I2ND) provides a set of open and standardized interfaces to the networks and to the devices ..."

This text, in particular when being the first sentence of the conclusion, could raise misunderstandings: as exactly the same wording as the name of our GE is used, you could understand that we are talking about the limitations of our own GE. But our aim is to overcome such limitations! And further: do we have to overcome the limitations only in case there is skepticism with regard to the potential? Or is our aim to overcome the limitations to allow easy usage by applications and other users?

I would propose that we simply remove this first sentence...

Best regards,
Thomas

Dear All,

I have rounded up the white paper document. Please find an almost final version of the I2ND White Paper.

I have arranged the paper as follows:

*         Section 1: General I2ND Overview

*         Section 2: Usage Scenario

* Section 3: I2ND functionalities for realization of usage scenario. In this section a general description about the functionalities of each GE is presented, followed by the means which that GE supports realization of the usage scenario described earlier.

*         Section 4: Conclusion

Missing is a paragraph describing the way the CDI GE supports realization of the usage scenario. I have clearly noted in the attached document the place where this paragraph should be inserted.

I am not sure if there is still a time space for further modifications.

Pier please take it from here...

Mohamed Salem

Dear All,

I would volunteer to take the lead for the generation of the white paper.

Hence, I will:

* Compile the S3C perspective regarding the usage scenario.

* Collect the contributions of the other generic enablers.

* Merge everything into the document.

* Ensure harmonization among the document.

*         Compile the Conclusion.

* Wrap up the white paper in the most suitable structure I find after all contributions are there.

I will not communicate any further modifications to the I2ND team, for the sake of not introducing confusions.

Hopefully this should be all ready by Friday, 2nd November.

Agreed? Or are there any suggestions?

Best Regards,
Mohamed

Hi All,

Open specs revision and other stuff make me crazy (or maybe it's just making my attitude emerging more clearly ;-) so I mixed up a number of things, and probably my response today was not the best option to follow, as I didn't had a look to Thomas' contribution before sending my mail to you.

I have checked that contribution, and apparently it's not so bad as general structure. For the time being we could even keep it as it is, and wait for the 1/2-to-1 page contributions to the other <GE> Perspective sections.
Then when all the material is available we can decide what organization is best for the document.
Here is the updated doc with Thomas' and my contribution.

Just one additional thing: today we had the WPL/WPA confcall, and we have been asked to complete this run of the document by Sunday 4th (!).

I think this is possible if tomorrow (i.e. Wednesday) we get the contributions from Chris, Henk and... you :)
I'll rearrange all the things together either tomorrow afternoon, or in the days after (at home :().

One final note: who is among you taking care of the S3C Open Specifications description update? This should complete asap as well, as you know...

Hi Mohamed,

yes my proposal is exactly the option 1 you have depicted. If you all agree, then we have to share it with Thomas, Chris and Henk.

As I'm deeply involved in the revision of the Open Specs, I'd be grateful if some of you (as you already did so far in fact) could (continue to) lead the generation of the white paper... I'll be active for the final revision in any case.

Dear All,

>From my perspective, there are one of two options to adopt:

(1) Section 1: General I2ND description (as done). Section 2: Presents the usage scenario (as done). Section 3: Describe the GEs as done currently under Scenario technical requirements enriching it and discussing how these functionalities assist in the usage scenario. Section 4: Conclusion

(2) Section 1: General I2ND description (as done), but merging the GE description currently written under Scenario technical requirements hence not placing it in a separate section. Section 2: Presents the usage scenario. Section 3: Discusses how each GE supports realization of the usage scenario, so basically it clearly shows how the functionalities of each GE are mapped to the discussed scenario. Section 4: Conclusion

I believe Pier that option (1) is what you have proposed. From my perspective, it sounds reasonable to me.

I think we should make a decision as soon as possible regarding the structure to be adopted so we can started getting feedback. Please check out Thomas' feedback in the attachment.

Regards,

Mohamed

P.S: I would propose that someone should be responsible for the white paper, decide upon its structure send out the instructions and collect the contributions, merge them and compiles the white paper.

Hello Kay and Hans,

By looking at the draft you circulated, I found it a bit different from what we discussed in the call yesterday; this is not a fundamental issue, but I think that with this document, it would be reasonable to proceed in the following way:

- The Scenario technical requirements section already includes a first description of the GEs: we should improve each of these GE descriptions by adding the technical requirements imposed by the usage scenario inside each of the GE descriptions, and highlighting the solution/benefit each of them brings.

- In this way, the GE owners don't have to add too much to the description, but concentrate on the requirements and solutions (didn't we have already a list of features of our GEs which will cover the story requirements?)

- Hence, the GE perspective sections would be no longer necessary.

- The conclusions section will then summarise the overall I2ND support to the usage scenario.

Does this sound reasonable to you? If yes, we should circulate the information to all asap!
BTW, here is a first update of the general descriptions in the document from my side.

BR
Pier
P.S.: Telefonica is watching you through the fiware-i2nd list ;-) Moreover: the planning for the white paper preparation was already known in advance, we should have been more strict in managing it earlier, so a part of complaints go also to ourselves (myself first of all...) :)
