From pierangelo.garino at telecomitalia.it Thu Oct 4 14:44:16 2012 From: pierangelo.garino at telecomitalia.it (Garino Pierangelo) Date: Thu, 4 Oct 2012 14:44:16 +0200 Subject: [Fiware-i2nd] I: [Fiware-wpl] Clarification: IMPORTANT: Next steps regarding review of FI-WARE Architecture and Open Specifications In-Reply-To: <506D16DA.5020902@tid.es> References: <506C5996.1060501@tid.es> <506D16DA.5020902@tid.es> Message-ID: Dear All, In the mails below you'll find the instructions we're going to follow to restructure the Architecture and Open Specification wiki pages. You'll find attached also some slide explaining the motivations for such modifications. With respect to what you'll read there (I suggest you start reading from the bottom mail), we'll perform the following actions: 1. By tomorrow, any modification to the current wiki pages need to be stopped. I believe none of us is modifying them (except Thomas and we are in contact about this point), because we haven't received yet the feedback of second peer review. 2. The feedback of second peer review will be available by the end of this week (provided by Security chapter). 3. On Oct 8-9 I'll personally create the new pages according to the instructions below. Meanwhile, you can take a look at restructuring instructions, in order to be ready to operate based on them (but don't do any modification now!). 4. Immediately after, I'll ask the Task/GE coords to restructure the relevant pages, according to the new template + according to the feedback of second peer review. This will complete by Oct 12. 5. The week after (15-19 Oct), we'll perform the third peer review on a chapter to be specified. We'll later appoint the responsibles for such review. 6. Then (presumably from 22 to 26 Oct) we'll perform the final update our I2ND wiki pages according to the third peer review feedback we'll receive by another chapter team. For the time being, i.e. until Monday 8th, please don't make any modification to the current wiki pages unless strictly necessary, and in this case please keep me informed about that. An additional comment concerning the restructuring of an Open Specs page when a GE is developed by multiple partners (some of you pointed out this in another mail). This is what stated in the mails below: One particular question you should carefully handle is the Copyright section of the specifications of a given GE. That section should contain the list of copyright statements from the companies/organizations authoring the specifications. Of course, that means that you should come with an agreement of who are the companies/organizations that should be listed as authors Hope this dissipates the doubts, otherwise please let me know. Thanks and BR Pier Da: fiware-wpl-bounces at lists.fi-ware.eu [mailto:fiware-wpl-bounces at lists.fi-ware.eu] Per conto di Juanjo Hierro Inviato: gioved? 4 ottobre 2012 06:56 A: fiware-wpl at lists.fi-ware.eu; fiware-wpa at lists.fi-ware.eu Oggetto: [Fiware-wpl] Clarification: IMPORTANT: Next steps regarding review of FI-WARE Architecture and Open Specifications Hi all, Just to avoid any misunderstandings ... Some of you may have received comments from the 2nd review with some delay ... therefore, you will not be able to introduce all of the changes derived from received comments by end of this week. Don't worry. That is understandable. What we want to achieve is closing a stable version by the end of the week. There may be changes still pending from the 2nd review. Of course, don't use this is an excuse for not trying to close as many comments as possible ;-) ... overall when you have received the comments on time ;-) We need to close a stable version by end of the week, and then stop changing the wiki, because we will concentrate during October 8-9 on the re-structuring the whole wiki. After that, we will start the 3rd peer review and you can resume adding the contents that were pending from the 2nd review. You may be implementing those while others are reviewing your chapter, but I believe this won't be too much an issue (there may be some "race conditions" but, in theory, the worst case is that someone sends you a comment on something you have already covered). Hope this clarification is helpful. Every WPL will take care of creating the FIWARE.OpenSpecifications.. wiki page per each of the GEs linked to his chapter. This is an activity that you should start on Monday October 8th and get finished by October 9th, so better you plan this in advance and, if you decide to distribute the task and assign it to GE owners/leaders, you should share with them this plan also in advance. To create the FIWARE.OpenSpecifications.. wiki page of a given GE, you should rely on the template defined in: https://forge.fi-ware.eu/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/fi-ware-private/index.php?title=Open_specification_resubmission_template That template contains precise instructions about the steps to follow. You will find there a link to an example of how the resulting page may look like. One particular question you should carefully handle is the Copyright section of the specifications of a given GE. That section should contain the list of copyright statements from the companies/organizations authoring the specifications. Of course, that means that you should come with an agreement of who are the companies/organizations that should be listed as authors. Hopefully, this shouldn't be a big issue. On our side (TID), we will generate the part of the wiki that will allow us to navigate directly to the GE specs and generate the FI-WARE GE Open Specifications deliverables to be resubmitted. Once all changes are verified, we should start a final peer-review on October 10th. I will send an email with assignments for this last peer-review previous to our joint WPLs/WPAs confcall on Monday October 8th. We would like to send a note to the PO and reviewers on October 10th updating them on the results of our two first peer-reviews and the fact that they can access a revised version of the FI-WARE GE Open Specifications on the public wiki (however, the final official deliverable, in .pdf format, will be available by end of the month, incorporating results of the last, third peer-review). Because of that, you are asked to incorporate all changes derived as results of the two first peer-reviews (August and September) by end of this week, October 7th. If you have any particular question or concern, please let me know. I also add a fourth point concerning the restructuring of Arch + Open Specs wiki pages, which is now started (first step is however in charge of the WPL - this will complete tomorrow). 1 ======== First of all a good news: Deliverable D2.6.1 on State of the Art, which was due by M18 (i.e. this month), has been dropped as a result of an agreement between the ProjCoord and the PO. Next releases are of course still planned as originally (D2.6.2 due by M24, D2.6.3 due by M36). 2 ===== Whitepaper including common usage scenarios for the GEs for wide dissemination (incl. to Use Case projects and third parties): the ToC is now ready. You find it here: https://forge.fi-ware.eu/docman/view.php/27/1333/FI-WARE+Product+Vision+New+Draft+12-10-01.docx - This will be a re-elaboration of current Product Vision pages (or what remains after removing those parts which will be put in restructured Architecture pages). It will also contain sort of usage scenarios. The following link https://forge.fi-ware.eu/docman/view.php/7/1342/FI-WARE+and+Open+Data+12-10-04.pptx shows a ppt presented at the Architecture Board meeting with the UCPs, about the Open Data and how FI-WARE relates to that. This will be used for e.g. completing the section "Supporting and Open Data approach" in the Whitepaper. - We need to provide *by Oct 12* the ToC of usage scenarios we're going to describe for I2ND (we already have some use cases for our GEs distributed over the different wiki pages, we should bring them into this document, along with some earlier use case which were left aside, if still applicable). - When done, the workplan is: o Generation of almost stable draft: *October 26th* o Peer-review during week starting *October 29th* o Target submission date: *November 5th* 3 === Schedule virtual meeting sessions for UCPs about our GEs. We can of course re-use the material we prepared for educational weeks. Plus any improvement which can be useful for UCPs to better understand the purpose of our GEs. There is a document shared with UCPs, which contains information about the GE meetings, you can find it here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AqGGeaQGro3fdDRKeUpILUxzTjNNUFZBQUhfM0U4aFE&pli=1#gid=0 Two moeetings need to be planned, to let a minimum of flexibility to UCPs. As you'll notice, this is primarily intended for those GEs already available through the current FI-WARE testbed, which means for I2ND is involving just Cloud Edge (shared with Cloud chapter). *Henk, Serge, can we talk about this tomorrow afternoon?* Additionally, UCPs might request ad-hoc (virtual) meetings: in this case several GEs presentations could be provided together. 4 = Architecture + Open Specs restructuring: this is on going. An example of final GE Spec document was submitted to PO (and reviewers) to check if it contains what expected. You can download this example at https://forge.fi-ware.eu/docman/view.php/7/1341/FI-WARE+BigData+GE+OpenSpecifications.docx Initial feedback looks fine, so we can progress (forget that it is a Word document, we continue working on the wiki...). I'm preparing the pages for each GE, as soon as available I'll tell you what to do in them. I'm also rearranging the instructions, to try and make them little bit simpler so that it should be easier performing the task. *The GE Coords will be in charge* of organizing the restructuring of the pages, as they already know: *please wait my instructions tomorrow, thanks*. Hope these items help you in better defining the activities for the remaining weeks of this month (should I say Sprint...). You can access them through the 'cockpit' page on the fiware-private wiki (BUT the landing pages are on the public one!): https://forge.fi-ware.eu/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/fi-ware-private/index.php/Open_specification_resubmission_cockpit The links for I2ND are at the bottom of the page: you'll see that the 'Auto-generated Status' column gives some feedback on the situation of the page. Also the second step is more or less complete, i.e. restructuring of the original Architecture pages of our GEs. This has been done according to the following instructions, sent by Juanjo this morning: 1. You should include a Copyright section which lists the copyright holders --> Done 2. You should include a Legal Notice section which incudes a reference to the Legal Notice that applies to your GE specifications --> Done (Thomas, is this ok in NetIC page?) 3. You should include a description of the intended use/role of the GE in the Introduction section of the FI-WARE Architecture Description wiki page itself. You can reuse the information already provided in the FI-WARE_Product_Vision in section "Target usage" of your chapter/GE, but please duplicate the current information. --> Done except for NetIC. But check its consistency with other sections and against guidelines (see below). 4. Create a new page on the wiki named as FIWARE.OpenSpecification.Details.., where the contents of the "Open Specifications" section in the Architecture Description wiki page will be copied. --> Done for CDI and S3C. Other two GEs please add it. 5. Drop the section "Open Specifications" that was there within the wiki page associated to the Architecture Description (you have copied its contents now in the new FIWARE.OpenSpecification.Details.. page) --> Done for CDI and S3C. Other two GEs please add it. 6. On the RESTful open API specification of your GE the Intended Audience needs to be revised it should be changed to address reimplementers as potential target users: "This specification is intended for both software developers and . For the former, this document provides a full specification of how to "This specification is intended for both software developers and reimplementers of this API. For the former, this document provides a full specification of how to . --> To Be Done (maybe adapted to our API style) The 'global' guidelines (including those at the point 1-6 above) are available at page https://forge.fi-ware.eu/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/fi-ware-private/index.php/Open_specification_resubmission_template I kindly ask you to: - Re-check what I did already, against the guidelines, and provide feedback, or adjust things in case there is some mismatch - Complete the restructuring of the 'original' Architecture pages now half restructured based on the rules above (and what I didn't do yet myself) - Check and try to make your page as much uniform to the template as possible. Of course, concerning the APIs non-REST we can tolerate differences, as it was always done so far. - Provide if possible a the specific FIWARE.Glossary.I2ND. that will be automatically included in the Open Specs page - Please notice that the new Open Specs pages are using the 'template' and inclusion features, therefore you'll see they are rather empty, because the original text is in the included pages. - A ticket on the I2ND tracker has been assigned to you, to take care of this activity. You can move the ticket to the 'Under execution' status, to reflect the fact you're performing this activity. This happens e.g. in page FIWARE.OpenSpecification.I2ND.CDI I tried also other pages of the FI-WARE wiki (e.g. the I2ND in the materializing section), and they have the same problem. This is a very critical issue now that we have to complete the restructuring and subsequent steps to provide the input for the third peer review. Who can check what this issue originates from? The documents of GE Open Specs are available on the FI-WARE FusionForge docman system. As we did for the second review, I propose to split the review among WPL/WPA/Task coords of I2ND. Here are the links to the GE Open Specs to be reviewed and the proposed reviewers appointed, followed by the instructions to do the review: Pier: https://forge.fi-ware.eu/docman/view.php/7/1350/FIWARE.OpenSpecification.IoT.Backend.ThingsManagement.docx Henk: https://forge.fi-ware.eu/docman/view.php/7/1355/FIWARE.OpenSpecification.IoT.Backend.DeviceManagement.docx Thomas: https://forge.fi-ware.eu/docman/view.php/7/1356/FIWARE.OpenSpecification.IoT.Gateway.DeviceManagement.docx Hans: https://forge.fi-ware.eu/docman/view.php/7/1357/FIWARE.OpenSpecification.IoT.Gateway.DataHandling.docx Chris: https://forge.fi-ware.eu/docman/view.php/7/1358/FIWARE.OpenSpecification.IoT.Gateway.ProtocolAdapter.docx As usual, please feel free to involve other members/partners of the Team to perform the review, or ask for a change in reviewer. Here are the actions you should perform: 1. Download the Open Specs you have to review (link above) 2. Read the 'Questions to address', by checking the contents of the 'Simple peer review form' document (attached to this mail) and take them into account when doing the review. 3. Do the review, by activating the 'track changes', and adding comments in the Open Specs file. Try to be as much detailed as possible in the review: the good project progress strongly depends on our capability to provide deliverables of quality, especially these concerning the Open Specs. Obviously, we expect that also the reviewers of I2ND chapter will do the review seriously as well, allowing us to improve our Specs accordingly... 4. Fill the 'Simple peer review form', customizing it according to the GE you are reviewing. Please have a look at the review reports you should already have, and provide comments about those points which might be relevant for the GE Open Specs you have reviewed (i.e.: fill Section 1.2.2.3) 5. Send the two documents (reviewed Open Specs + form) back to me I'll personally upload the documents in the expected place on Forge: I have suggested a change to Juanjo with respect to his original idea and I wait his feedback, so the place could change. That's why I'll do it myself. Then I'll also update the shared spreadsheet (Google cockpit) and inform the IoT WPL of the review done. Hope this is clear enough to let you proceed with the review. I remind you that the deadline for such operation is Oct 23 (i.e. Tuesday) Thanks a lot! Indeed, the peer review we did on IoT chapter Open Specs is now complete, thanks again for your commitment to finish this in time! All the documents we have produced are available through the review cockpit, at columns E, F (and rows concerning IoT) in the spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AqGGeaQGro3fdDZhTEVmYTlHenkyR0FHMTg3LUVpSWc#gid=0 Now we can to enter again in the I2ND-mode state, as we need to gather the comments coming from the reviewers of Cloud chapter who were analyzing the I2ND Open Specs, and implement them in the documents. By today EOB we should have available the documents for all our four GEs, so keep an eye on the table above. At the moment there's only one feedback available (i.e. the one on S3C). I would recommend that you follow the original instructions which say: 6. Process comments. This would be carried out typically by the owner of the FI-WARE GE Open Specifications. This would imply: * generate a temporary draft by means of accepting/rejecting changes from the commented docx of your specifications * consider general comments in the FI-WARE Peer-review form linked to your FI-WARE GE Open Specifications and introduce changes that you would consider may address them 7. You will generate a new docx by means of implementing step 6 you should upload to the SVN or docman of "FI-WARE Private" and will provide a link to it in column "Revised doc" of the cockpit 8. You will have to update the contents of the public wiki with the contents of the document associated to the revised version Steps 6 and 7 have to be performed on the .doc(x) file directly. Later, step 8 will be performed in the wiki, we'll agree together on how to do it (myself only? Each of GE owners?). I remind you that we have a deadline on Oct 30th to complete the update (including step 8). I propose therefore that steps 6 and 7 are completed by Monday 29th at the latest. We can discuss more in detail possible doubts that might appear in the update process, during our periodic PhC on Thursday. Finally, I have created a ticket assigned to each of you in the I2ND tracker, which corresponds to this update activity. I also closed the prpevious tickets still under execution concerning the restructuring and second peer review updates. Please update your ticket once you start working on the update. Cheers, Hans Message Classification: [ ] Public [ ] Private [ ] Internal Use Only [ ] For your eyes only [X] General Business Use [ ] DTAG Internal Use Only [ ] DTAG Confidential Proprietary Betreff: FYI: NFV on light reading ... From http://www.lightreading.com/document.asp?doc_id=226204 A group of Tier 1 operators from Asia/Pacific, Europe and North America is set to announce a new industry initiative on Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) at an industry event Oct. 23 in an effort to pin down exactly what the next generation of carrier networks might look like. But while the initiative is to be launched at an event dedicated to the topic of software-defined networking (SDN), its members appear to be steering clear of that term -- at least for now. The operators behind the initiative include (in alphabetical order): AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) BT Group plc (NYSE: BT; London: BTA) Deutsche Telekom AG (NYSE: DT) France T?l?com - Orange (NYSE: FTE) KDDI Corp. NTT Group (NYSE: NTT) Telecom Italia SpA (NYSE: TI) Telstra Corp. Ltd. (ASX: TLS; NZK: TLS) Telef?nica SA (NYSE: TEF) Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) The NFV proposition will be explained by Uwe Michel, a network architect at Deutsche Telekom, during the SDN & OpenFlow World Congress in Darmstadt, Germany. The abstract for his short presentation states the following: "NFV aims to consolidate many network equipment types onto industry standard high volume servers, switches and storage, thus providing a new network production environment, which lowers cost, raises efficiency and increases agility. The IT and Telecom industries are invited to contribute their complementary expertise and resources to encourage common approaches for NFV." That approach tallies with the new network vision laid out by Michel's colleague, Axel Clauberg, DT's vice president of IP Architecture and Design, earlier this year. That vision sees SDN protocols being deployed in data centers and access networks but not in telecom operator core networks. (See DT Unveils New Network Vision.) Michel's presentation will be followed by a speech from BT's chief data networks strategist Peter Willis, titled "Network Functions Virtualization -- a key enabler in the evolution to SDNs." It seems, then, that the major telcos are keen on exploring how the SDN approach can be applied to their future architectures while at the same time viewing their roadmap as being on a parallel track to the SDN revolution. If that's the case, the likes of Ericsson AB (Nasdaq: ERIC) and Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. should feel encouraged: The Swedish vendor has just called for a new definition of SDN that can be applied to the needs of communications service providers. (See SoftCOM: Huawei's Take on SDN and Ericsson CTO: Let's Redefine SDN.) Others will be pleased, too: Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) , of which AT&T and Verizon are members, is set to announce an initiative to define carrier-grade SDN best practices. (See ATIS Weighs In on SDN Standards.) Light Reading will be at the SDN & OpenFlow World Congress event to report on the details of the NFV initiative, set the record straight and get industry reaction. And drink German beer. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This needs to include deliverables, release of GEs (i.e. the CE so far), other activities worth to mention with respect to the workplan (and DoW). I have inserted the name of the person/company in charge of providing specific contributions, please check the entire file attached. In case you don't have downloaded it, I also attach the previous version of report (D.1.2.2), which described the entire first year of project activity; it can be taken as an example for completing the new document (WP7 description was basically ok, however you might check e.g. WP4 or WP9 as other good examples of completeness). *AP on Task Coords*: you have mainly in charge of filling the Task tables, please consider to involve other members of the Team to complete the description wherever necessary. *AP on each Company Member*: please check if you need to provide specific information about resource usage concerning your company (page 6). Then promptly give your feedback in case the Task coords require it on the specific Task descriptions. Can you please let me have *your contribution by Nov 7th*, so that we can circulate a merged version among us, and provide an update before the deadline on Nov 9th. Many thanks and BR Pier Da: JAVIER DE PEDRO SANCHEZ [mailto:jdps at tid.es] Inviato: marted? 30 ottobre 2012 22:57 A: Garino Pierangelo Cc: subsidies at tid.es Oggetto: FI-WARE: Periodic Report - M13 - M18 - WP7 (TI) Dear Pier According my previous e-mail below, I kindly ask you to send me back the attached word file with your redaction by November 9th, 2012. Please collect the information directly from all the involved partners in your WP before and please make integration as a team and an evaluation as a WPL. Please, take in account the current second amendment when evaluating the declared effort of each partner (it is not included in the planning): EAB WP7 Ericsson need to have a minor change in WP7 moving all their resources to task 7.4. They will not be active in task 7.1 at all and no resources consumed in 7.1 If it is needed, you can send me an updated report whenever you want. (In this case, please use the doc with activated changes control) Please confirm you have received and read this e-mail. Thank you in advance BR Javier. De: fiware-wpl-bounces at lists.fi-ware.eu [mailto:fiware-wpl-bounces at lists.fi-ware.eu] En nombre de JAVIER DE PEDRO SANCHEZ Enviado el: martes, 30 de octubre de 2012 16:42 Para: fiware-wpl at lists.fi-ware.eu CC: subsidies at tid.es Asunto: [Fiware-wpl] FI-WARE: Periodic Report - M13 - M18 Dear all As you know we have to deliver the Periodic Report which has to give an overview of the third semester of the project (only months from M13(May12) to M18(oct12)). I will kindly ask you in another particularized e-mail to update as WPL the information about your WP: 1. Progress in your WP (with a detailed evaluation) 2. Update of deliverables in your WP. (they should have a link to the forge) On it you'll find the updated current effort at M17 and the planning at M18. Please note that the amendment 2 is still not approved and the planning is according to the current DoW. (I'll attach the changes in your WP on your particularized e-mail) Please take in mind that I haven't received any data from THALES. No THALES' effort from M13 to M17. As soon as I receive them, I'll send you an update (as well as I have the M18 effort for the all the partners). I recommend you to ask to your involved partner for their contribution before updating the document. Thank you very much in advance. I'll appreciate if you send this information by November 9th. Note: It is important to keep in mind that this is a draft report, because we'll need to update it with our effort at M18 (including October). So, I'll ask to your administrative person your current effort of October by the first week of November. You can send me an updated report whenever you want. (In this case, please use the doc with activated changes control) At last but not least, please, I kindly ask you to follow the template in order to have a homogeneous report as a team. In the last review report they said: [cid:image002.jpg at 01CDB6F1.DAC06D70] Thank you in advance. BR Javier.
