From pierangelo.garino at telecomitalia.it Wed Sep 5 11:52:11 2012 From: pierangelo.garino at telecomitalia.it (Garino Pierangelo) Date: Wed, 5 Sep 2012 11:52:11 +0200 Subject: [Fiware-i2nd] Update of I2ND wiki pages according to Peer review feedback Message-ID: Dear All, the peer review of wiki pages concerning Architecture and Open Specs of I2ND chapter is attached to this mail. Please have a look at the comments there (in general, yellow text means grammar/typo/etc, green text concerns contents). In order to start doing the necessary update to the pages, I kindly ask the GE owners (i.e. Task coords) to take in charge the update of those pages concerning their GE, either directly or appointing other team members to do it. I'll personally take in charge the revision of the initial I2ND architecture page (i.e. https://forge.fi-ware.eu/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/fiware/index.php/Interface_to_Networks_and_Devices_%28I2ND%29_Architecture ) Due to the relatively short list of comments, I assume we can complete the update by Friday 7th, as planned by the WPL/WPA coordination meeting. Please let me know if you envisage troubles in doing this. This will change in the next future - I guess. The big problem is, that if they request from us QoS we have to provide the network infrastructure by us they will not set-up the network. Since we are not able to do so, we should be careful ... We can only provide GEs for projects which will set-up a local network for the trials. Summary: In relation to I2ND, they have some local network managed by them but this are special networks such as ad-hoc network. This kind of networks are not in our portfolio. The "edge" networks are connected through standard access networks without special requirements with the assumption of QoS, which is currently the case because: - The amount of data is not big and gets through the network easily. - The current network are mostly overprovisioned, so no bottleneck appears and a certain "QoS" can be assumed. - They are not focusing on advanced future network topologies and requirements. This means, they have no job for us :-( Cheers, Hans Message Classification: [ ] Public [ ] Private [X] Internal Use Only [ ] For your eyes only [ ] General Business Use [ ] DTAG Internal Use Only [ ] DTAG Confidential Proprietary From: fiware-i2nd-bounces at lists.fi-ware.eu [mailto:fiware-i2nd-bounces at lists.fi-ware.eu] On Behalf Of Varga, Jozsef (NSN - HU/Budapest) Sent: Freitag, 7. Such proposals are Telco Village from the Ubuntu foundation or Serval. There is a mesh IEEE 802.11 specification as well. There was some several successful European projects as well in this area. That the kind of networks IoT usually intends to use. The thing is that most of those proposals do not exist in the void. ? For example in Serval it relies on the mobile identity, and in Telco Village it relies on some backbone somewhere. ? They probably assume that if they use unlicensed bands they are free to do whatever they want, which is true only partially and could change under EU directives (see the 3 sept. new EU directive in this area) So my point is: Even if they think they are independent of the global networks, in reality they are not. One action point on our side could be to list things they assume to work automagically, but in reality that need someone to provision something in the phone or in the network and ask them what are their position/ how they want to solve those issues. ? Identity management is the first thing probably. ? Collision and coexistence management in the radio spectrum is another. ? Bottleneck is predictable with the new radio access technologies, because they offer more than a Gigabyte per second and no fixed network can managed that. Even the current RAN nodes would have problems and the optical fibers behind them are not probably able to manage such traffic as they were deployed 10 years ago with an obsolete technology. ? Hans, Kay, I propose we submit to WPL/WPA today this item for discussion and approval: do we have an updated version of the questionnaire available? We need it for the discussion in the WPL/WPA call. More in general, it is my opinion that such aspects and issues should be addressed by the white paper we expect to produce in the next weeks: examples and use cases might be easier to understand by (but not limited to) the UCPs. It seems that they want QoS from IoT. In the "OUTSMART / FIWARE Synchronization Process Results" (see link) the NetIC is mentioned once (Other Net Adapter), but it has no useful info. If a partner gets not assigned a User Story or a Work Item during a Sprint, it means that it is not working on anything, therefore cannot justify any cost". - Update to I2ND architecture and Open Specifications pages o We have to update the pages as I asked in my mail on Wednesday 5th o It was planned to be complete by Sep 7th but this is not done yet, and we obtained and extension up to *tomorrow morning at 12:00 CEST*. o Please report to me when this is done. I apologise if this sounds rather 'impositive', but we absolutely need to avoid that the project activities diverge even more from the expected roadmap: this will be for sure an important topic we'll address together in the I2ND PhC on Thursday, to agree on the best way to proceed in the remaining project period. All Chapters should plan the Sprint of one month the week before. Planning should translate into: * A number of User Stories in the Backlog (tracker) become planned for development during the Sprint (they get assigned the corresponding Sprint Id) * A number of Work Items that are also planned to be carried out during the Sprint (either selected from list of work items pending in the backlog or identified as new during planning). Examples of work items are: * Work required in order to deal with refinement of a Feature into User Stories * Work required in order to deal with refinement of a Epic into Features (and maybe some work items) * Work to be done in the FI-WARE Testbed (e.g., deploying an update of some GE) * Work to be done in the FI-WARE Catalogue * Contributions to development of deliverables in WP2 (e.g., Architecture Description, Technical Roadmap, Open Specifications, etc), WP10, WP11 or WP12 * Participation in some workshop with some UC project * Solution of some ticket(s) issued in the FI-WARE Global Support tracker * Peer Reviews * etc Work items may typically be identified and planned by the WPL. It is expected that work items may help to capture and follow-up Action Points identified within a WP. --> In I2ND we extend the creation of WorkItems to Task/GE Coords (in some cases it could be done by the developers too). As you see the Work items allow to also keep track of those activities we are taking care of in these days (e.g. the peer review of other chapter deliverables), so it is easier to have a snapshot at any time of what is done (by whom), so please use them accordingly. In case of doubts you can have a look at the guidelines to create new entries at wiki page How to create entries in the "Backlog Management" Tracker of a FI-WARE Chapter Moreover, the page Releases and Sprints numbering, with mapping to calendar dates shows the naming conventions for assigning Release and Sprint IDs to tickets. Further enhancements to make it easier following the methodology will be: * Leave the public Wiki only to document Epics and Features in the Backlog. Note that Testing Plans will be formulated over Features. -> This means that User Story entries will be removed from the 'Materialising' wiki, see below! * Drop some fields (of tickets) documenting Epics and Features. Candidates are: * Scope (always Generic Platform) * Relative Priority * Source (doesn't add value over stakeholders+owner) * Rationale (difficult to fill) * Version (Mapping of Features/Epics into releases should be captured on the Technical Roadmap. A field here would introduce risks of inconsistencies. If it were related to version of the contents of the entry, we would be adding complexity over the history that is already controlled by the wiki ... is strictly needed or was just nice to have ?) * Enabler (can be determined from the Id) * Keep User Stories documented only at the level of the trackers. Note, though, that this may require to add custom fields (e.g., description of how a user story will be tested), so that we would like to hear others' opinions. * Work items would remain also documented only at the level of the trackers. Hope this helps completing the job more easily. BR Pier Questo messaggio e i suoi allegati sono indirizzati esclusivamente alle persone indicate. I have some questions: 1. If I add a User-Story in the tracker, should I do the same in the materializing wiki? No, this is no longer necessary: it is one the simplifications I reported in the other mail I sent yesterday to the whole I2ND Team. 2. When I add a Work-Item or a User-Story in the tracker, how are they linked to the corresponding Feature? Should I use the "Summary" box? The naming convention for User Stories, as well as for WorkItems, is the following: FIWARE.Story.I2ND.CDI... Where the EpicName, FeatureName etc correspond to the Epics/Features the User Story is associated to FIWARE.WorkItem.I2ND[.CDI[.[.[.]]]]. Where again the EpicName, FeatureName etc correspond to the Epics/Features/ User Story the WorkItem is associated to. The main difference here is that a WorkItem could be associated to any 'level of hierarchy', that is there can be a WorkItem assigned globally to CDI, or assigned to an Epic, which would result in the following examples: FIWARE.WorkItem.I2ND.PeerReviewofCloudChapter as it is a global task for the I2ND team (usually these are set by WPL/WPA) Or (as you correctly did in the past): FIWARE.WorkItem.I2ND.CDI.QoE.Enhance Webinos integration document (this is a workitem related to Epic QoE) 3. What about the work done in past Sprints? Do Reviewers accept what we have done so far, even if the backlog is not completely in line with their expectations? The main objective for today is to have a clear vision of what we are doing in the current Sprint, and from now onwards (i.e. complete regularly month by month the entries). This means that we need to concentrate on documenting properly (without excess as we defined in the call yesterday...) the 'work to be done', including all the Features we defined in the 'Materialsing' wiki. For what concerns the past periods, it is at the moment valid to keep the situation as it was, i.e. we are not asked to add entries for all what done in the past not completely documented. On the other hand, as I2ND as particularly for CDI, we are already in a good position since many entries for past periods are already there (thanks to all of you who updated the tracker rather regularly :) Hope this clarifies the points. Thank you very much, -Andrea Il 12/09/2012 08:24, Garino Pierangelo ha scritto: Hi All, the new features concerning the CDI are present in the tracker, IDs from 2570 to 2584. You should find in the 'Power query' pull-down menu an entry 'Most Recent Tickets' which shows the tickets from the latest ID to the oldest one, please tell me if you don't see that query in the list. Each ticket has been assigned to one of us, but it is still open. I leave to you the task of: 1- Setting your assigned tickets 'Under execution' for those Features you're currently working on 2- Defining and entering User Stories tickets to further split the programming development to be done for those Features (for the time being just put User Stories for those Features you're actually working on now). If case a Feature is self-contained and not structured, a single User Story could be created for that Feature (try to limit this situation to few cases) 3- Assigning those User Stories you're working on in this Sprint the ReleaseID and SprintID. When the list of WorkItems Chris is going to introduce is complete (thanks Chris for taking this in charge!), we'll have the whole list of actions we're performing in this Sprint, as requested. However, you should consider the following: - Architecture page of a GE should be reviewed by the Task Coords mainly - Open Specification pages should be preferably reviewed by an expert of RESTful interfaces - Reviewers of a GE Architecture page should also read carefully (without review) the Cloud chapter introductory page, to get an overview of where the specific GE is inserted - Reviewers of a GE Open Specification page should also read carefully the corresponding GE architecture page (and maybe the chapter introductory page...), to get an overview of how the specific GE is structured - Read carefully the Editorial comments before doing your review o The 'blah blah' text (see document...) should be used to collect comments applying to the whole page under review o The table(s) should be used to comment specific issues found in the page Don't be frightened by the number of times your name is listed in the document! Basically you will have to review only two wiki pages, i.e. the Architecture + Open Spec pages of a single GE, but the answers are spread over different sections of the document. As said in the call today, the process needs to complete by Sep 20th at 9:00 CEST. However this deadline means forwarding the doc to the Cloud Hosting WPL/WPA, which means also we have to complete our job by *Sep 19th at 16:00* to let packing the results in a single document and send it to Cloud coordinators. In particular I point out the clear distinction made in this procedure, between the activity for the sw coding of a given Feature/User Story, and all the other activities which need to be faced in order to consider that Feature/User Story actually 'complete', i.e. testing it, documenting, etc. All this can be represented by a number of WorkItems. The approach would help in assigning a specific Sprint to such activities, so keeping track of what's done on each of them. The procedure is already implemented for the CDI GE, please let me have your opinion about it and its possible adoption. Take into account the usual rules to assign a ticket to a given SprintID are: - WorkItems (User Stories) should have sufficient 'work decomposition' to be complete in one Sprint - A ticket will be assigned to current SprintID if it can complete within current month - The list of tickets to be complete in next Sprint is created right before the end of the Current sprint (i.e. we'll assign SprintID=FIWARE.Sprint.2.1.1 to tickets at the end of September, no earlier!) - If a ticket is scheduled for later months, then no SprintID has to be assigned in the tracker now The statistics below can be derived from the attached excel file, which is the snapshot of the i2nd tracker obtained with the 'download csv' command this morning. There are 70 Tickets assigned to FIWARE.Sprint.2.0.2 where: - 65 concern CDI (!!) - 2 concern CE - 3 concern NetIC - 0 concern S3C (!!!) For following ticket, some corrective action needs to be undertaken. 1) Within the 70 tickets of current Sprint, there are: . 45 tickets in 'Open' status: they should move to 'Under Execution' or 'Closed' (or remove the SprintID to them...) . 1 ticket (2587) assigned to nobody but under execution (add the assignee) . 0 tickets assigned to ALU-D, NSN-H, DT, EAB (!) 2) Moreover: . There are 2 tickets with SprintID = FIWARE.Release.2.0.2 (needs correction) . There is 1 ticket with SprintID = FIWARE.Release.2.1.1 (needs correction/removal of SprintID) . There is 1 ticket with SprintID = FIWARE.Sprint.2.0 (needs correction) . There are 11 tickets with SprintID = FIWARE.Sprint (needs correction/removal of SprintID, if the tickets are not to be complete in current Sprint) . There are 16 tickets with SprintID = tbc or tbd (needs removal of SprintID?) . There are 14 tickets with SprintID = SprintID.2.1.x (e.g. 2.3.1) (needs removal of SprintID, I suggest to keep track of it, as month by month the ID will be re-added) . There are 6 tickets with SprintID = FIWARE.Sprint.1.x.x (e.g. Sprint.1.1.2) still Open or Under Execution (check if still working on them and reassign to new Sprint or close) . There is 1 ticket with SprintID = FIWARE.Sprint.2.0.1 still Open (check if still valid or remove SprintID) As Task/GE Coords, can you please have a look at this status and make the necessary corrective actions, I suggest you use the attached excel. I remind also that next week would be the right time to start assigning the SprintID=2.1.0 to those tickets which will be executed and closed - hopefully - in October. In general, it is a good idea, to list all the needed steps (which all are linked with a sort of deliverable) when working on the items. Looking on the potential amount of overhead (in particular in smaller teams working on smaller GEs), I would propose to reduce the complexity: The 'feature' is seen as the lowest 'functional element' which can be accessed from an application or a user via the API. Due to this, we have stated earlier, that also the anticipated level of testing (in test bed) is the 'feature' level (or in first step in fact even EPIC if there is only one feature), as a consequence the proposed work items related to Specification, Design, TestPlan, UnitTestImplementation and ProgrammersGuideAndInstallation should also be on the 'feature' level. One might argue, that each use story will contribute to these deliverables on feature level (collecting all the contributions of the use stories belonging to a feature), so consequently each use story should have such related work items. But this will only produce more entries in the tracker, no additional information! As a feature should only be closed if all related use stories and work items are closed, in my eyes there is anyway no gap in control of completeness. Having defined all these deliverable work items on the feature level, in my eyes all the use stories below a feature will define the implementation of the various sub features /smaller pieces of functionality). If needed or appropriate, there may be also additional work items contributing to the implementation if there contents can not be captured easily by a use story. So, at least for NetIC, I would like to propose the following: Keep the mapping to the deliverables on the feature level: feature name: FIWARE.Feature.(ge).(feature name) related use stories for mapping the deliverables: FIWARE.Story.(ge).CDI.DeviceSensors.GeoLocation FIWARE.WorkItem.(ge).(feature name).Specification FIWARE.WorkItem.(ge).(feature name).Design FIWARE.WorkItem.(ge).(feature name).TestPlan FIWARE.WorkItem.(ge).(feature name).UnitTestImplementation FIWARE.WorkItem.(ge).(feature name).ProgrammersGuideAndInstallationHelp We should add these work items to the tracker, they will be worked on during runtime of the feature implementation. What do you think about this? Best regards and have a fine weekend, Thomas ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thomas R.
