From sabrina.guerra at telecomitalia.it Thu May 12 12:03:54 2011 From: sabrina.guerra at telecomitalia.it (Guerra Sabrina) Date: Thu, 12 May 2011 12:03:54 +0200 Subject: [Fiware-iot] ETSI M2M Definitions Message-ID: <36A93B31228D3B49B691AD31652BCAE9A533573DE0@GRFMBX702BA020.griffon.local> Dear all, As decided last Wednesday in the online meeting, I provide you the ESTI M2M Definitions document (see the 00004v030.pdf attachment). I find that there are two macro differences between the IoT definitions in Fi-ware and in the ETSI M2M document: * in the ETSI M2M Definitions there are the definitions of both Local and Network Applications (e.g. Devices Applications and Gateway Applications, that are local, and Network Applications). * in the ETSI M2M Definitions the concept of the Area Network, that connects the M2M Devices to M2M Gateways, is defined while this definition in the IOT is missing. The other IoT definitions are similar to the ETSI M2M ones. For reference I include here two figures from the M2M Functional Architecture document that describe the functional blocks in the M2M Architecture and can be compared with the figure 1 in the FI-Ware_DoW_Extract_IoT_B1 document: [cid:image005.gif at 01CC109C.58A14B90] Figure 4: M2M high level system overview [cid:image007.gif at 01CC109C.58A14B90] Figure 5.4: Service Capabilities functional architecture framework Best regards, Sabrina Guerra __________________________________ Telecom Italia S.p.a. Registering in the FI-WARE project is quite easy. We will ask you to perform the following steps (*important note*: this is an update of the instructions I sent a couple of days ago): 1. Registration as users of FusionForge This is pretty simple. You just have to go to: http://forge.fi-ware.eu/ then click on "New Account" in the upper right corner It should drive you to a screen where you will assign yourself a nickname. It should be valid UNIX login name, so that "." are not allowed. I would suggest using "_" instead. You have to fill a registration form and after doing so, click "Register". Once we do this, you have to check your email (you should provide your email address in the registration form) and then complete registration. WPLs are entitled to ask people working in their WPs to perform this step as soon as possible. Please note that maybe not all people are registered in fiware at lists.fi-ware.eu so you should forward this message also to your lists with any other specific instruction you may want to add. Note that registering in FusionForge is a step necessary to perform the following steps and finally be able to get access to private documents uploaded in FusionForge. 2. Give Admin privileges to WPLs All WPs have a "project" in Fussion Forge. You can already see them listed at: http://forge.fi-ware.eu/ on the right bottom corner under section "Recently Registered Projects" Once WPLs have registered them as users in the Forge, they should send me an email informing about this. Then I will register them as Admin users in the project corresponding to the WP they lead as well as in FI-WARE. Pascal Bisson (Security WP), Torsten Leidig (Apps/Services Ecosystem WP), Alex Glikson (Cloud Hosting WP), myself (Data/Context Management WP), Hans Joachim Einsiedler and Pierangelo Garino (I2ND WP) have already registered and have been assigned Admin privileges both in FI-WARE and their WP. Still missing: IoT Services Enablement WP, Exploitation WP and the Developers Community Tools WP. 3. Give access to partners in each of the WPLs Once WPLs get admin privileges, they should take care of registering members of their WP team in their projects as well as the FI-WARE project @ FusionForge. Admins at TID will also help to add them to FI-WARE. There are two ways a given person already registered in FusionForge can join a project as member: * Option 1: * Tell this to your WPL and me by email. Your WPL (or someone from TID for the FI-WARE project) has to go to the space assigned to the project. You can see all available projects at: * http://forge.fi-ware.eu/softwaremap/full_list.php * After navigating to the project he/she manages, the WPL should click on the Admin Tab and then click on the "Users" menu option (right below the Admin Tab) and finally select "Add Users from List". Then he/she just needs to look for the user he wants to register in the project and mark the "Add User" option (you'll see it on the right side). Once he has marked all users he/she wants to add, just needs to click on the "Finish" button * This bring him/her to a screen where he can decide on the role assigned to each selected user (we recommend you to assign a "Senior Developer" rol) and finally click on "Add all" * Option 2: * The partner who wants to join a given project goes to the space linked to that project by clicking on the corresponding URL at: * http://forge.fi-ware.eu/softwaremap/full_list.php * Then the partner goes to the box at the right hand of the screen where the names of Admins and developers of the project are listed and clicks on the "Request to join" link there * The WPL and TID will check requests to join and will approve them when appropriate. Note that WPLs have to decide what privileges you assign users in their corresponding projects. They may add more Admins or assign it that of a Senior Developer or Doc Writer, I would suggest Senior Developer. 4. Sharing documents Once you perform the steps above, it should be quite easy to share documents. I will send an email giving a brief tutorial on this later this evening. ________________________________ Este mensaje se dirige exclusivamente a su destinatario. What happens to you is because: * you have not requested to join the FI-WARE project (you should request joining FI-WARE and the project linked to WPs you are involved in) OR * you have not send an email to your WPL asking him/her to register you in the FI-WARE project (and the project linked to the WP he/she leads) This was explained in my previous message. Probably the easiest method would be the first one. You just need to get access to the project page (through http://forge.fi-ware.eu/softwaremap/full_list.php) and then click on the "Request to join" link you will find on the right side of your screen: [cid:part1.00070202.05070106 at tid.es] Once you request to join, either one of the WPLs or some Admin from TID will grant you access (also explained in my previous mail). Note for the Admins: you should grant access but assigning a "Senior Developer" role. Note that EVERYONE in the world might register in our FusionForge instance (that's the way it works). This ease administration and also enables third parties to approach us. However, only FusionForge users that are registered in a project can access documents labeled as "private" to that project. In the case of the referred documents, we decided to label them as private to the project. I'll send you a brief document describing how it works in order to upload/publish documents later this evening. In the meantime, let me share with you the template we would like you to follow for creating FI-WARE documents. You can download it from: http://forge.fi-ware.eu/docman/view.php/7/42/FI-WARE+Public+Document+template+11-05-17.doc You may also find a template for meeting minutes useful. You can download it from: http://forge.fi-ware.eu/docman/view.php/7/41/FI-WARE+Minutes+template+11-05-17.doc Both documents are private, so that only users properly registered in the FI-WARE project in the FI-WARE FusionForge will be able to download them :-) I hope this will persuade most of you to register in the FI-WARE project @ FusionForge if you haven't still done so :-) A mail reminding to register with a detailed (updated) description of steps to be followed will arrive to you in the next message. I'll send you a brief document describing how it works in order to upload/publish documents later this evening. Beyond defintions, we have to improve the 4 generic enablers description (Communication, Resources Management, Data Handling & Process Automation). The size we have to target is 4 pages per GE. <> Some other points for tomorrow: * Scenario description: we put previously some small stories in the text. We could improve these stories focusing on the Usage Area projects (small story for Transport, Smart City, Food traceability, etc...) * We have included some SOTA parts and have to delete reference in the text. We have also to check all SOTA elements and identified if it is relevant to add them in the GE descriptions. * We change a bit the architecture picture: comments are welcome. * Contribution to IoT week in Barcelona Please keep in mind that if you have to produce comments and more on the document, the best way is to do it tomorrow after the meeting or afternoon so you will concentrate time and money in an optimal way for this task. The most elaborated and common terminology in this area can be found in the Event Processing Technical Society - the event glossary http://www.ep-ts.com/component/option,com_docman/task,doc_download/gid,66/Itemid,84/ It covers events, event objects, complex and derived events etc. Guy Sharon Manager Event-based Middleware & Solutions Group Event-based Middleware & Solutions phone : +972 4 8296587 mobile : +972 54 6976417 address : IBM R&D Labs in Israel, Haifa University Campus, Mount Carmel, Haifa, 31905, Israel email : guysh at il.ibm.com From: Ricardo de las Heras To: Guy Sharon/Haifa/IBM at IBMIL, "sabine.zander at orange-ftgroup.com" , JUAN JOSE HIERRO SUREDA Cc: boris.moltchanov at telecomitalia.it Date: 26/05/2011 11:50 Subject: Fiware - Event definition agreement between WP5 & WP6 Dear colleagues from WP6, in the IoT WP5, we are defining a basic glossary as common framework for our work and future understanding in this area. However some of the definitions and concepts are relevant for you as well, because CEP, massive storage or Context mngmt. overlaps with the IoT World in some way, that's why I point directly to you in this mail as partners involved in those areas within WP6. First, from WP5 we would like to achieve a common agreement with you about the concept of a 'Event', so please check the current definition we have and modify it if needed: "Event. An event can be defined as an activity that happens/occurs or the digital representation of this activity in a an IoT backend instance, or more generally, in a FI-WARE instance. The second definition could be called ?event object?, but it can be argued that the context will always identify which meaning of the term is used. There is one-to-many relationship between the two meanings: the same activity can be represented by more than one event object; where each event object can capture different attributes of the activity. In many event processing systems the events are immutable, in such systems modifications of an event must be achieved by creating a new event. Events may be simple and complex. A simple event is an event that is not an abstraction or composition of other events. An example of a simple event is that ?smart meter X got broken?. A complex event is an event that is an abstraction of other events called its members. For example a stock market crash or a cellular network blackout is an abstraction denoting many thousand of member events. In many cases a complex event references the set of its members, the implication being that the event contains a reference. For example, the cellular network blackout may be caused by a power failure of the air conditioning in the operator?s data center. In other cases such a reference may not exist. For example, usually there is no accepted agreement as to which events are members of a stock market crash complex event." Nevertheless the idea is that WP5 will mainly use the CEP or Publish/Subscribe/Notify mechanisms provided by WP6. And second, regarding the data storage, in the WP5 we are not going to locally store the historic data collected from the IoT World. We have to discuss this important issue in the future meetings, but I understand the basic idea we agreed in the past between both WPS, was that WP6 collects and stores all those huge amount of information received from IoT and WP5 will only store locally the gathered information in the case that information would not be relevant for the rest of the scope of the WP5, I mean the usage areas and the rest of the Fiware WPs. However, when we discuss with usage areas we should use simple terms, avoid to have a too elaborated terminology and on the other hand we should grasp what is the IoT specificity of it, which currently - I must confess - is not present yet in the definition. The definition of the event in EPTS: "An object that represents, encodes, or records an event, generally for the purpose of computer processing" is not the best one to be used as an explanation for the usage areas, I think. On the other hand the EPTS is very good in the sense that it has a clear, short definition of individual terms and then a set of examples. I will try to follow the same approach with the definition. The second definition could be called "event object", but it can be argued that the context will always identify which meaning of the term is used. An example of a simple event is that "smart meter X got broken". A complex event is an event that is an abstraction of other events called its members. For example a stock market crash or a cellular network blackout is an abstraction denoting many thousand of member events. In many cases a complex event references the set of its members, the implication being that the event contains a reference. For example, the cellular network blackout may be caused by a power failure of the air conditioning in the operator's data center. In other cases such a reference may not exist. Thanks a lot Stefan and Martin for your contributions. We have to send a consolidated version to Telefonica for next Friday. Based on Monday morning meeting with Juanjo we have: 1- to improve Generic enabler definition (expected length 4 pages including an architecture picture) 2-to provide an architecture picture per GE (Task leaders) <> (draft example for Data Handling) 3- to answer to some business questions: * which user needs will the product address * which product attributes are critical to satisfy the needs selected and therefore for the success of the product Please prepare your homework because we need your feedback for tomorrow (Wednesday 1st of June) EOB to be able to integrate everything for the consolidated version. I remind you that tomorrow telco is planned for 10 AM instead of 9h30 AM. BR Thierry -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
