Thierry, all,

it is good to put together this Task force.

I think we need to put together the list of criteria to evaluate.
for example, the NSN paper clearly identified that NGSI is only
an API standard, while ETSI M2M is an enabler standard.
This is true and a results of the different approaches in the
standard organization.

Further criteria to evaluate, not an exhaustive list

(a) Data Models - expressiveness, re-usability, level of abstraction, support for developer
What can be expressed with the data model. For example, a binary blob
can do almost anything, but does not leave room for optimization
and creating high-level enablers (such as data stores and search/retrieval functions).
Also, it is not easy to deal with blob objects in open systems in which many apps access
many data items (n:m). That's why for example the "Verification" functions from
XML is a heaven for developer as it makes sure that only well formed XML documents
get parsed. Binary blobs cannot provide this level of simplicity for app developers.

(b) Suitable for an "open market of data"
So not vertical linked devices/applcaitions, but truly open

(c) Rich discovery supported by protocol
"Tags" is the minimum, but as we know, self-choosen tags are not really suitable for
full automated discovery and processing.

(d) Distribution and distributed processing

(e) High-Level Information Model

(f) Support for geographic-based operations

(g) Federation support

Guess we find many more...

- Ernö

Dear all,

In fact we have at least 3 running activities with I2ND, DCM and Security and we have to improve our understanding of USDL (interface with ASE).

I agree that maybe we would not have the same interface, based on the same standard for all of them. This is why we have to analyze in more details what ETSI M2M or OGC or EPC Global or ONVIF propose! We should arrive for the review (22nd of November) with a kind of cartography to answer some reviewers questions and justify our choices. Typically, NGSI with DCM because using essentially events, NGSI could be "agnostic" and ease the interface with CEP and PUB/SUB Broker. ETSI M2M could provide better functionalities for resources discovery, and so on...

We certainly have the tough work in this area because lots of standards exist and many are dedicated to some areas.

Regarding all these standards, we want to group all analysis in a common document where some of us could analyze OGC vs ETSI M2M and some other OGC vs NGSI.

Effectively, based on the last weekly meeting I have understood that you, Ricardo, will provide an OGC analysis in general, not specifically regarding NGSI or ETSI M2M but based on your knowledge in some of them, a wider analysis.

The team for this standards analysis could imply Orange (I will introduce a colleague of mine who has begun a paper on that) NSN (Denes) TID (Ricardo) NEC (Martin or Ernö) and Telecom Italia (especially for your knowledge in ETSI M2M: Sabrina or GianPiero?). Of course, all contributors of WP5 have to review and comment this document because ti will be the one which will support APIs definition for the next steps.

Best regards

Thierry

Hi Ricardo,

Thank you for your answer but our doubt is that there are 2 running activities (cross-work between I2ND and IoT and task-force on standards) that have the same objective (defining the interfaces from IoT SE Platform and Cloud Proxy) and we wouldn't want to create an overlap.
Best regards,

Sabrina Guerra

HI Sabrina,

SensorAPI is the standard used between the concentrator/Gateway and the platform, this is the way used for example in IDAS,
so I understand NGSI could apply in the same scope, but out of the scope of the sensors' protocols at the low level (Zigbee, Bluetooth, etc.) layer within T5.1
OK?

br,
Ricardo.

Hi all,

currently it's starting a cross-work between I2ND and IoT to define the interfaces/protocols between IoT SE Platform and Cloud Proxies. In your opinion which are the interactions between this cross-work and task-force you are proposing?

Dear Martin,

just for clarifying this issue,

what I proposed was to create a 'Task force' for defining in the short term how we can make compatible the OGC SensorAPI and OMA NGSI standards, in the same way we followed to present (Dénes) NGSI vs ETSI M2M last Friday on the call.

Indeed I proposed this work can be led by NEC and TID at least, so I understand you welcome this proposal;)
thanks,

br,
Ricardo.

Dear Dénes, all,

I slightly updated the minutes from last week's telco. Apparently my voice was not recognized in a few places and some
comments were attributed to me that I did not make (maybe they were made by Maarten Los, please check).
Sorry for not introducing myself when making a comment.

Another question: regarding the different standards - it seems that a task force has been established, but this does
not become clear from the minutes. We think that NEC, as co-author of the OMA NGSI context management interface,
should participate - we also have some knowledge on ETSI M2M and to a lesser degree on the OGC standards.

Best regards,

Martin
