Dear Project Coordinator,

We are planning to issue a publication consisting of technology briefs on the most interesting and important results of Future Networks EU FP7 projects.

With this publication, we endeavour to reach an audience which goes beyond the networks research community, with the aim to enable less technical audiences to understand and appreciate how the future networks research can and will have an impact on them, both now and in the future.

According to a Eurobarometer report published in June 2010, nearly 80% of Europeans say they are interested in scientific discoveries and technological developments, compared to 65% interested in sport. Over 70% of Europeans think EU-funded research will become more important in the future. 57% think scientists should put more effort into communicating about their work and 66% believe governments should do more to interest young people in scientific issues.

It is thus essential to make a case for networking research and showcase scientific research breakthroughs which emphasise the crucial role of the network communications technologies to enable vital applications of our everyday (work and leisure) life.

Naturally, we would not be able to provide the best result without your help. That said, we would very much appreciate your contribution concerning any newsworthy material that could prove useful to showcasing success. We welcome dissemination products you may already have or could create, featuring project milestones and achievements in a non-scientific (layman) style that should not exceed one (A4) page/500 words.

Our publication will cover the following chapters related to project research topics:

*       Mobile broadband
* Core networks and (fixed) broadband access
* Efficient spectrum management and usage
*       Future Internet
*       Energy-efficient networks

Going far beyond accountability matters, this is a genuine occasion to promote competition in the context of technological innovation: the more newsworthy material we gather on a project, the more chances of it standing out as one of the best.

Lastly, we would like you to send your material to my colleague, Rossana Ippolito - Rossana.IPPOLITO at ec.europa.eu<mailto:Rossana.IPPOLITO at ec.europa.eu>, with your corresponding Project Officer and Petronela Burceag - Petronela.BURCEAG at ec.europa.eu<mailto:Petronela.BURCEAG at ec.europa.eu> in copy, by September 30th .

Should you have any questions regarding the content, Petronela Burceag will be happy to assist you at any point.

Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards,

 Luis Rodríguez-Roselló
