For many years, we have been saying that technology is the key to the future for education and training. We’ve talked about how it can spread opportunity and open up new horizons for people around the world. Experts and practitioners in our network have been involved in developing, producing and promoting every kind of technology assisted learning. Now it’s clear that technology supported learning and training is not just an opportunity, it’s a necessity. The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that the whole world now needs to embrace blended learning in one form or another. We can no longer rely exclusively on the classroom. Technology and blended learning have to be a part of every learner’s experience as a matter of priority. eLearning Africa is committed to ensuring that it continues to serve the purpose it has always put at the forefront of its mission: to allow its community to learn, be inspired, engage, share, collaborate, meet and network. It is a platform for people with shared values and interests. We have not been able to hold our annual pan-African conference physically; instead we have found other ways to engage with and inform our community. We have contributed to and organised a variety of virtual events such as the eLearning Africa Virtual Exchange for Anglophone Tertiary Education Institutions <https://www.elearning-africa.com/virtual_events_past_anglophone_edition_2021_01.php> in February, and reaching over 1600 participants with webinars <https://www.elearning-africa.com/virtual_events_webinars_round_tables.php> on topics which include Embedding Employability Skills in HEI and Increasing Graduates’ Employability Chances as well as an online Executive Forum for African Higher Education Leaders with Coursera for Campus. We coordinated a survey and produced a report on “The Effect of Covid-19 on Education in Africa and its Implications for the Use of Technology” <https://www.elearning-africa.com/reports_surveys_COVID19.php> , and last but not least we have launched the eLearning Africa Academy <https://www.elearning-africa.com/academy.php> and the eLearning Africa Podcast <https://www.elearning-africa.com/podcasts.php> series. In this newsletter, we would like to share more on some of our new initiatives as well as some important activities our partners have been engaged in. We hope you enjoy this edition of our newsletter and look forward to hearing your stories. Podcast: Hon.
