Experienced successes increase the conviction that you will also be able to be successful in the future - especially if these successes are attributed to your own abilities and not to happy circumstances: People who first have to accept setbacks and then make progress through their own efforts increase their self-efficacy level higher than those who are immediately successful. There is also a significant correlation between self-efficacy and commitment to goals (Locke et al, 1984). A high level of self-efficacy increases the ac-ceptance of high goals: in the event of setbacks, people do not give up, but instead develop new strategies for achieving goals and intensify their efforts.
