[Fiware-gold-members] Objective variables to assess on candidates for the CTO position

Dear Gold Member and Platinum representatives in the BoD and rest of
members of the BoD, Andrea,

My name is Carlos and I represent Digitanimal as Gold Member. In today's
session I transmitted my feedback to Andrea regarding Juanjo's
reinstatement. Andrea explained to us during  that the BoD is currently
running a selection process for the different positions within the Board of
Officers, including the CTO position where I assume Juanjo Hierro is
precisely one of the candidates.

Moving towards higher transparency and creation of mechanisms for gathering
feedback from gold members regarding strategic actions is a necessary step
for organizations like ours for which FIWARE is at the core of their
strategy.

This selection process should be as transparent as possible, therefore it
should come with a report to all gold members on the results of the
evaluation of the different candidates. I am sending you this email, since
I consider that it must be for the benefit of all to ensure the selection
of the best candidate, in a measurable and objective way. I think this is
crucial at this inflection moment.

I believe that a number of variables have to be assessed for all
candidates.  Such variables should be objective and measurable.

You may keep names of candidates anonymous but certainly one is not: Juanjo
Hierro, therefore it should be feasible to report how each of these
variables were measured for him and the rest of candidates (anonymized if
necessary as candidates B, C, ...).

Here it is the list of proposed variables for your review and consideration:

· Leadership and management of teams (direct reports):

o What is the average and maximum size of the teams (i.e., number of
people) the candidate has managed?

o How many people on average have been part of the teams you have managed
in the last 5 years?

o How many years have you been managing teams of 10+ more people?

o Do you have experience not only coordinating technical matters but
managing carrier development (assessment of performance, salary
increases/bonus, professional development, ...)

o Have you managed direct reports who accumulated 5+ years of experience?

o Have you managed direct reports who accumulated 10+ years of experience?

· Experience in industry standard bodies and creation of industry standard
specifications:

o what are the industry standardization bodies you have experience with
(ETSI, W3C, OMG, DTC, ...)

o what standard working groups and standardization activities you have been
involved in

o NGSI-LD is a core standard spec for FIWARE: ¿have you brought any
specific contribution with regard to NGSI-LD specifications?  May you
specify which ones?

· Experience as event speaker:

o Enumerate relevant industry fairs where you have been a speaker (e.g.,
MWC, 4YFN, SCEWC, IoT SWC, ... )

o Enumerate relevant other community events where you have been a speaker
(e.g., Data Spaces Symposium, Agridata, OASC, ...)

· Experience interacting with peers (C-level, particularly CTOs):

o Bring references of C-level people you have had to work with on frequent
basis (specify what for)

· Experience interacting with analysts firms (e.g., Gartner)

o Bring references of analyst firms you have had to interact with for
positioning FIWARE or any other technology.

· Experience with media:

o Do you have experience participating in press conferences?  Please
enumerate examples

o Do you have experience recording interviews?  Please enumerate examples

· Experience on legal matters (it is typically necessary that CTOs have to
get involved in reviewing MoUs, agreements and legal contracts, therefore
experience is important in this field):

o Have you been involved in writing of legal agreements?  May you estimate
how many?

o Have you been involved in revision of legal agreements?  May you estimate
how many?

o What is your experience with open source licenses?

· Meritocracy:

o Please enumerate achievements along the FIWARE history in which you
believe you have contributed significantly (justifying contribution)

o The CTO can play a key role in convincing companies and end users of the
adoption of FIWARE, even become FIWARE Foundation members  ¿Bring concrete
examples of relevant organizations you have convince to become members or
adopt FIWARE ?

· Technical leadership:

o Please enumerate technologies and standards you have contributed to
integrate as part of FIWARE

o What articles and white papers have you contributed to create positioning
FIWARE?

· Have you contributed to activities of any MSC (Mission Support
Committees) of the FIWARE Community ¿which ones ? ¿what contribution ?



  Besides all these variables, which can be measured, we encourage the BoD
to assess the following aspects regarding technical vision and value
proposition of FIWARE:

o May you describe the vision and value proposition of FIWARE in data
spaces?

o May you describe the vision and value proposition of FIWARE in robotics?

o May you describe the vision and value proposition of FIWARE in AI/ML?

o May you describe the vision and value proposition of FIWARE for cities?

o May you describe the vision and value proposition of FIWARE in the
agrifood sector?

o May you describe the vision and value proposition of FIWARE in
manufacturing and utilities?
