Dear all,

Please read this mail carefully. Sorry because it is a long mail but
includes some important info and also identifies some initial action points.

This mail intends to serve for kicking-off the activities of the
FIWARE Mundus Committee. Formally speaking, the FIWARE Mundus
Committee will initially work in interim mode until it is formally
approved by the FIWARE Foundation Board of Directors (but we don't
expect major issues).

Besides this mailing list, the following shared GDrive folder is
available for members of the Committee:

    https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B4G2SvO4TLuLN1NSUUF3SEhQUDA?usp=sharing

The charter proposed for this Committee is now available as shared
google docs in that folder, but also through this link:

    https://docs.google.com/a/fiware.org/document/d/1l_ffAUnziy5GwWiuGew2qvIgLkb-Wxm2lLHnkkQ6dyo/edit?usp=sharing

As stated in the Charter, Jacques Magen will act as interim Chair, while
Estan Fernández, Geraldine Quetin, Pierre-Yves Danet and Geraud Lacaze
will act as interim vice-chairs.

Members of the BoO of the FIWARE Foundation as well as Angeles Tejado
from the FIWARE Press Office are members of the mailing list.

@Jacques: shouldn't we add in the list at least those FIWARE
Foundation members involved in the FIWARE Mexico project? You have
privileges to add them directly in the mailing list and give them access
to the GDrive folder, but happy to help it and do it for you. Unless you
see any objections, I will add them tomorrow noon.

@Jacques, @Angeles: there are some initial action points in the
charter on which the FIWARE Press Office could start to work. I suggest
that you run any discussions on this topic within this mailing list and
this way start to have activities running. At least, I identify the
following:

  * coordination of participation in events
  * coordination of presence in social networks and press media
  * development of the FIWARE Mundus web page on the FIWARE website
  * design of specific FIWARE Mundus marketing material and joint
revision of marketing material where FIWARE Mundus perspective is
    relevant

Discussion about these topics should take place in this mailing list
and not any specific EU funded project mailing list (e.g., any FI-Global
mailing list that I presume may exist). Otherwise, coordination of
certain activities (and any of the above are good examples) would be
rather difficult, overall taking account that it may need engagement of
other active members in the Community (relevant FIWARE Foundation
members involved in the FIWARE Mexico project again an example, but I
can imagine additional members can join).

I understand that it may take some time to get used to it, but we
should avoid using specific project mailing lists or shared folders for
discussion on topics that fit nicely as topics for discussion on the
FIWARE Mundus Committee mailing list. In general, mailing lists
associated to projects should end being used just for very internal and
specific projects exchanges (preparation of project reviews, some
internal project discussions, etc). We have work that way regarding
the FIWARE TSC and I can say it is perfectly fine and have multiple
advantages:

  * You can incorporate others in the discussion for activities where it
is true that some people may be funded through a given project, but
others can and may wish to contribute. Don't forget that the FIWARE
Foundation is an open community so it is great that activities of
the different Committees are open to those willing to contribute.
  * The activities and history of the exchange of mails and documents
remain despite the perimeter of projects funding those activities
    change.
  * It will help leaders of the Committees to become recognized leaders
of the activities within the Community.

The FIWARE Foundation and Press Office will oversee that this
approach is effective and will support you in such transition from a
project-oriented way of working to a foundation-community way of working.

   Cheers,

--
