[Fiware-ngsi] update of WP5 architecture

Dear All,

glad to hear some news about P/S GE for IoT ecosystem, we're waiting for specific requests to currently "released" description of P/S GE.

I understand that the spec is at all high level at very beginning, however I would express some considerations coming from the P/S world are here below:

One question regarding the IoT backend - if a temporal (for certain period of time or duration) subscription is requested and a tiny device doesn't support the time concept (no system time or no system clock at all) where IoT is going to keep this timing? In the session control or request handler or even access policy control? I suggest either to have it in the session management, then communication between the access control and session management is needed because this temporal limitation can be due the access policy and not only due to the request; or in the access control acts a subscription limiter in both cases due to the request or due to the access policy. For sure for IoT populated by the energy constrain devices the subscriptions_forever is not a good option.

Another issue - either Access Policy control or the session management shall be able to perform a push to the device (now there is only pull to APC from Device API) stopping its communication (nor of the exposure backend, but exactly the target device due to the constrained energy budget) to the external P/S through the Exposure GE due to an eventual time-subscription gone (as above), the access policy has changed with an immediate effect (IoT is always on, so a push stop shall be explicitly applied) or the battery (energy source) is drained till the survival threshold of the device and this is not the devices itself but a higher layer (most probably the session manager) to decide whether to stop the running communication due the energy low or to continue the communication even until the device "dies".

At the P/S GE level currently we allow communications "forever". And also P/S is not aware about the policy changes at the IoT world in order to modify or deny an already granted and serving subscription. Ant there might be no knowledge about the device power level (or a malicious attack draining its power). Thus some internal IoT protection measures from some sort of correct(apparently_legitimate)_but_bad operations from the external works to IoT shall be undertaken.

BR,
Boris

Subject: update of WP5 architecture

Dear all,

In reaction to the conclusion reached in the discussion about the role of the pub/sub broker GE I have updated the architecture description, see
https://forge.fi-ware.eu/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/fi-ware-private/index.php/FIWARE.ArchitectureDescription.IoT.Backend.Exposure

As the next step we need to formulate functional requirements of IoT on the publish/subscribe broker GE.

Have a nice weekend!
Tobias
