Dear all,

   As you may know, FIWARE Mission Support Committees (MSCs) are the
governance bodies created with the involvement of members of the FIWARE
Community (i.e., the members of the FIWARE Foundation) to support the
daily and mission-critical tasks required to accomplish the FIWARE
Mission.   FIWARE MSCs are expected to be governed in an open,
transparent and meritocracy-based manner, following best practices in
other open source communities.

   FIWARE Domain Committees are examples of those MSCs, focused on
fostering the adoption of FIWARE in concrete application domains such as
Smart Industry, Smart Cities, Smart Agrifood or Smart Energy.

   This mail is intended to revamp activities of the Smart Cities Domain
Committee, at the light of recent developments in that domain and with
the intention to achieve higher engagement of the Community in the
several activities already in place (Front-runner Smart Cities, FIWARE
Showcase program, ...) as well as to activate discussions which may lead
to incubation of new activities. Besides, it is expected that Domain
Committees will contribute to definition of content for the FIWARE
Summits, particularly in those tracks related to the corresponding
domain.  Last but not least, it is expected that members of Domain
Committees actively participate in the Working Groups created at FIWARE
TSC level for driving discussion in several FIWARE Technical Roadmap areas.

   For this new phase, we expect some of you to volunteer taking the
role of temporary co-chairs until formal elections take place, which
should run before the Summit so that results can be announced during the
Summit.   Temporary co-chairs, with the support of the FIWARE
Foundation, should also finalize a charter of the Smart Cities Domain
Committee, so that it can be formally approved by the BoD (ideally at
the next BoD meeting planned on September, worst case at the FIWARE
Summit in Berlin).

   With this purpose, we would like to call for a virtual meeting before
the summer break addressing at least the following topics:

  * Formal and organizational aspects:
      o Finalization of Smart Cities Domain Committee (SC DC) charter
      o Designation of temporary SC DC co-chairs
      o Calendar and process for the election of SC DC co-chairs
  * Front-runner Smart Cities program
  * FIWARE Smart Cities Showcases program
  * CEF program and similar programs beyond Europe
  * Engagement of Cities as FIWARE Foundation members
  * Connection to FIWARE TSC activities
  * Position paper on Smart Cities
  * FIWARE Summit
      o representatives in the FIWARE Summit Programme Committee
  * Collaborative tools
  * Periodic virtual and f2f meetings

   You can also find this agenda in the pre-minutes
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xb7M-wNWPgednlza7-mSLfjQFGXQV_pMx3bFdRK02L0/edit?usp=sharing>
of the meeting.  Please bring there your comments and don't hesitate to
propose additional topics.

   As you see, first item of the agenda will address some formal aspects
including the designation of temporary SC DC co-chairs. We encourage
those who wish to play such role to send an email in reply to this one,
addressing the whole list, volunteering for that role.   Note that
temporary SC DC co-chairs are, as it names indicates, temporary.
Official SC DC co-chairs should become as the result of elections.
Temporary co-chairs will work closely with the FIWARE Foundation until
the elections of official co-chairs are completed, helping to support
that things keep going on.   Note that you don't have to be temporary or
officcial co-chairs to play an active role!!

   In order to find the best date for this virtual meeting, please fill
the following doodle poll <https://doodle.com/poll/zpxpp2gt79h6p85f>.
The call will be run at 14:00 CET, trying to find a compromise that can
work for people in both East Asia, Europe and America. That will also
simplify the task, so that you just need to choose a date.  Duration
will be 2 hours.

   Cheers,
