 I think your example is perfectly in line with what I assume a Work Item (Agile) could be.

Introducing a Work Item in the backlog is not yet a possibility at the moment, as no 'entry type' has been defined for it, we're waiting the input from TID. However I expect this will be available by tomorrow (I'll urge for having it available).

About structuring it further: yes in principle this could be feasible, however we should introduce new 'entry types' for this, and don't think could be a good idea, but I'll check also this possibility. On the other hand, I think it would be nice to create Tasks linked to a Work Item, the same which can be done for any other ticket type (features, user stories, etc). This is possible when you open a ticket, by clicking on the link 'Build Task Relation'.

Yes you're right: the Work Item is not a 'real' backlog entry so why inserting it in the backlog? However this can be used to keep track of work in progress (the main reason for having it); I also thought we could create another tracker in our WP, and use it for the work items only, but again this would reduce (or make it somehow trickier) that 'visibility' expected so I didn't propose it.

For the time being, please prepare all what you want to put inside your Work Item(s), and wait for insertion until we have the information on how to proceed for doing it.

Dear Pier,

 to deal with the needed work on our northbound interface, we would like to introduce a 'work item' with the name 'design of the NetIC northbound interface protocol'. By this, this important work item (not in the sense of AGILE but in the sense of the work we have in fact to do!) will be formally introduced. Following our latest discussions on what an AGILE work item might be, it seems that the AGILE work item is something like a WP-private EPIC or feature. This would mean, that we can structure our work item further (what we will have to do, probably after the Berlin meeting).

As I don't know how to introduce the work item into our backlog tracker (by the way: if the work item is not a backlog element why then introduce into the backlog tracker?? -->TID), would you please be so kind to do this for me or give advice how to do it?

P.S.: maybe, the other tasks might choose a similar way for their interface (or did they find another way to ensure common design of their interface?)
